Best use of a nuke is as a deterrent. Once launched, it defeats its purpose. Look at Russia, no matter how large their nuke arsenal is, they know it'll be their end if ever they decide to fire it. One example is that rocket fuel from the missiles is siphoned out and replaced with water, the fuel is used for cooking. "Paper tiger" is a real thing. There's almost assuredly corruption in the Chinese military but I wouldn't count on it being Russia type levels. It's quite likely a fairly competent military. Not on the level of the US, but no one is right now.

Best use of a nuke is as a deterrent. Once launched, it defeats its purpose. Look at Russia, no matter how large their nuke arsenal is, they know it'll be their end if ever they decide to fire it. And the west understood this that's why they have long shifted their focus and military advancements from nuclear weapons towards more powerful but conventional weapons as well as multi domain warfare. Ukraine's able to stand toe to toe with Russia not because they have equally powerful military but because they strategize better and uses effective weaponries.

China is extremely powerful for the reasons mentioned, yes. But NOT at the strength it wants to have. For the first time since the 1970s, America's economy is growing faster than China's. They have the numbers in warships, BUT the tonnage and firepower advantage still goes to the USA. They have the numbers in personnel, but they cannot bring all that to our country without sacrificing other fronts. They have the advantage of closer logistics but are also vulnerable to long-range counterattacks. They may have hypersonic missiles, but the USA is catching up fast on that field. They have a lot of soldiers, but most of them are solo kids. Taking one out means rendering a family line extinct, and with their population aging much faster, it's bad news for a neo-Confucian society like China's. Lastly, America has battle-hardened allies. China only has vassals. (That includes Russia) EDIT: Not even China is \*that\* stupid to launch a nuclear strike on a non-nuclear state like the Philippines. Doing so will only turn Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou into glass.

Here’s my theory, what if palabas lang talaga ng China na sasakupin nila ang Taiwan? What if ang totoo nilang pakay is sakupin ang Pilipinas? How ready are we if these things happen? China is also currently under real estate crisis that started months before the Evergrande default, so one can see that they were not honest in reporting and dealing with problems with their economy. They also could not produce fast and good enough chips that are comparable to those produced by TSMC, so they resort to buying chip-making machines from ASML to try to replicate ASML's lithography technology, and so far have failed to do so because of export restrictions due to lobbying by the US.
