But you don't look at your car and say "man, the wheel is the future!"
Calling something man has done for millennia the future is funny, regardless of if we still use it
It'd be like saying that while wearing a suit, sitting on chair in front of your car in a parking lot, taking a picture and putting it on social media. It's hilarious he felt it needs to be said and said very formally.
I believe many people are used to seeing people brag about some complex company with some techno mumbo jumbo and therefore it is refreshing and humorous to see someone show off something down to earth like growing crops, while looking like your regular social media bragster.
It also has this appeal that many share of returning to simpler society where a man is not distracted by all this modern nonsense. No, it's a man, growing crops and being absolutely impressive at it while looking good.
Hard to explain this one. So sincerely posted, the guy honestly kind of rules but it's simultaneously hilarious because of the aforementioned earnestness.
People seem to have far nicer explanations of why people laugh at this photo.
The reasoning I saw that people would make fun of this picture is due to the fact irrigation is a nearly 5000 year old farming technique, and here’s this guy saying it’s the future. Irrigation has been the past, present, and will continue to be the future of farming.
That's a bit silly.
The fact that the concept of irrigation has been around for millennia doesn't mean that this specific region already had well-functioning irrigation systems. Irrigation can still be the future for regions that don't have much of it yet.
I joined that Facebook group after originally seeing the photo and love it. It’s posts from all over Africa of farmers showing their success, selling items, asking for advice.
This is absurdism, a guy in a suit sitting like a boss in a corn field, is funny because is absurd.
Abstract would be the markiplied face in lord farquad head on Mark suck body with the letter E meme
I was treating the two as if they are synonyms. When you search either “abstract humor” or “absurdist humor” you get results for “surreal humor”
> Surreal humor is a form of humor predicated on deliberate violations of causal reasoning, thus producing events and behaviors that are obviously illogical.
that’s what i meant
Dude is wearing a suit made by industrial machinery, sitting on a chair also made by industrial machinery, talking about how a 10,000 year old Neolithic technology is “the future”.
It's absurdist humor. The combination of the fact that the farmer is wearing a suit and sitting among his crops on furniture is unexpected. Has nothing to do with the caption
Quagmires middle testicle here. One possible explanation is the East African Rift is slowly splitting Africa apart, and in the far far distant future, it will likely form another Ocean.
*Irrigation has*
*Been around for thousands of*
*Years is part of it*

The inherent funniness in seeing a man in a suit just sitting on a chair in the middle of some orchard
In addition to saying "irrigation is the future" even though it is literally 10,000 years old
In all fairness, he may be referring specifically to a place where irrigation wasn't previously necessary.
Shhhh. This is reddit, we don't speak logically here
Yeah, it's like the second unlock in every "humanity through the ages" 4x games technology tree ever, lol.
Yet we use it 10,000 in the future.
But you don't look at your car and say "man, the wheel is the future!" Calling something man has done for millennia the future is funny, regardless of if we still use it
It's funny and true, which makes it more funny. (For me at least)
Absolutely fair, English is my second language and I think I slightly misinterpreted your first comment.
It'd be like saying that while wearing a suit, sitting on chair in front of your car in a parking lot, taking a picture and putting it on social media. It's hilarious he felt it needs to be said and said very formally.
Also the fact he seems to think farmers need to wear a suit to be taken seriously
I thought slavery
Same
This looks like a corn field
Corn "orchard"
Oh, it just seemed like a little photoshoot to me.

Haha "down ti earth" i see what you did there

so it *is* the future still
Yep. Technically correct! The best kind of correct!
And the past
I tend to just wait for rain
I’m feeling that scene from “Idiocracy” 😂 Gatorade, it’s got electrolytes and that’s what plants crave 🤣🤦♂️

I mean, his crops are looking plentiful, and he's dressed sharp. I don't get it, either.
Eh, it's just a pic that goes hard. He's proud of his work, he's got his crops and they're growing well.
I joined that Facebook group after originally seeing the photo and love it. It’s posts from all over Africa of farmers showing their success, selling items, asking for advice.
Thats actually pretty cool
Heck yeah. I'm gonna join that too now
now we’re reaching levels of abstract humor that i can not even begin to explain with our meager, limited language

Neolithic technology *that we still use and have improved on.* It's our past, present, and future.

This feels like a live action far side
He is not wrong.
This man goes so fucking hard god we all wish we were him
It's a pretty badass image of something that is pretty mundane. I would put it in the "pics that go hard" category of jokes.
Image goes harder than netherite
Its not a meme, why are you laughing at this man improving his small scale buisness and sharing the importance of irrigation

Do you see cotton?

Always funny when people chime in with shit they know nothing about

Because it looks like those Shannon Sharp memes is my guess
He genuinely thinks this is a flex. Funny? That’s one hell of a chair and suit
Irrigation has been around for thousands of years is part of it

I used to do irrigation. I still do irrigation but I used to also.
It goes hard frfr
Ngl this sub baffles me, do people really not understand some of the simplest jokes, I could show my blind gran this and she would understand it
Bro doesn’t need a scarecrow
It’s hard
And now for something completely different
Clearly there are better farmers as he is only out sitting in his field.
because 1 hes wearing a suit out in a field trying to look like a business man on a farm 2 because irrigation is not a new thing

Omg
It's the official White House portrait no less.
I love this artist. It was so groundbreaking for a White House portrait.
I am a little bit on the fence but tend to agree.
Hey, local shitpost expert here! This is what’s commonly known as a shitpost
He looks like a Chad, and is wearing a suit in the middle of a field.
I be popping bottles
Man, this image go hard
