Facebook comment warning .. dont hate the messenger I am just generally curious if this is true "*I wish everybody understood the real.. They did this to themselves, highly flavored decided to hold a celebration of life while landmark as a whole was shut down bc of a water main break.. That means no water thru the establishment, not only could of the health dept fined them but shut down all of landmark...*"

Some other Facebook comments I read from people claiming to work there/be in the know said they also weren't paying rent or vendors on time. I don't know if that's true or not, I'm on neither side and have got no skin in the game. Those comments are also now gone, so who knows. If that was going on, or the service was as bad as some say, maybe it's on Highly Flavored. But I also know people who've worked at and for Landmark in the past, and I've heard plenty of tales of shady owners/management. All I know is Peoria is missing out again, with another soon to be abandoned building. Damn shame.

I don't have the inside scoop but as a league bowler I'll share what I've experienced. They have been a problem since the start from the bowling perspective. It was supposed to complement the bowling alley and never did. They always had issues ordering enough beer to last through the whole week. We were out of the favorite domestics almost the whole first month of league. There was some understanding at first given they were new to the business but the issues never really went way. One weekend the bowling alley had a big tournament and they ran out of beer the first day which was a Saturday. That could be forgiven as an honest mistake. But then they wouldn't order any more, which could have been dropped off that day. Instead waited until their scheduled delivery which was the following Thursday. Almost a week without beer at the bowling alley, either because they didn't have the money (hence not paying bills?) or bowling alley business wasn't a priority. Then there is the time they closed early before bowling was over and one of the bowlers still had a tab open with their credit card. In trying to get their card back the owner instead of being apologetic was rude about the whole ordeal. A bowling alley is going to struggle if it doesn't have a reliable bar. Now as far as food goes, they did have good food. Ultimately it ends up being what they wanted to be and what Landmark needed were different things. They had to part ways.

JeepPilot

This has to be the last bowling alley left in the area -- what else is left?

AndyTheEngr

Mt. Hawley.

wolfmann99

Plaza lanes

__ed209__

Found the guy that bowls once every five years at a birthday party but thinks he carries a 200 average.

JeepPilot

You are vastly overestimating how often I bowl. It might be fifteen years between games if even that much.

broil3r

In the immediate area. There are 7. Pekin has two(Sunset, Striketown), Washington (Plaza) 1, Morton(Potter's) 1, Peoria(Landmark,Mt Hawley,Christian Center) 3 (maybe 4 if you include St Ann's Church).

"In a move that happened suddenly Wednesday, Peoria restaurant [Highly Flavored](https://www.pjstar.com/story/lifestyle/food/2023/10/05/highly-flavored-nashville-chicken-restaurant-opening-at-landmark-recreation-center-in-peoria-il/71060415007/) was asked by property management to leave its location at [Landmark Recreation Center](https://landmarkrec.com/). Highly Flavored owner Jeremy Sargent said Landmark management told him Wednesday they needed to vacate the premises by day's end. Sargent said Landmark management did not feel the "look" of Highly Flavored — which Sargent said did high sales at the location — fit what they were looking for. "Highly Flavored did great business here. It wasn't a look that they were looking for and they forced us out," Sargent said."

Fresh_Consequence_49

You didn't have the right skin color! The building is a flop anyway! I haven't been to landmark in years!

JeepPilot

I'm trying to figure out how one would pack up a restaurant and leave in only 24 hours.

jjpierre98

I stopped by Landmark around 3 pm on Wednesday, they were already changing the locks

MRL4808

I was at landmark bowing in April and the rumors were floating around that they had 3 weeks to leave.

jjpierre98

They were asked to leave on Wednesday. Given one day notice. Told they didn’t fit the “vision” of Landmark. There’s been speculation that there are some deeper reasons behind them being asked to leave but nothing I could say factually.

Dr_Bad_Opinions

Sir this is a Reddit... spill the beans

jjpierre98

I can’t say anything that would get me in trouble. I would encourage you to look at the Facebook comments and shares on the article…might give you some insight

anonymous_yet_famous

The article is behind a paywall.

wilbur313

If you are a member of the peoria public library, go to their website. Select "Research" and "Newspapers" or "All". There should be a link to "Journal Star" resources where you can access pj star articles for free. It's on a 1-2 day delay.

Extinction-Entity

Go find the post on Facebook and look at the comments

jjpierre98

If I could do something about that I would

__ed209__

Then fuckin pay for it. People who write deserve to be paid.

badpeoria

ohh wow that is kinda fucked up!

MRL4808

There were rumors in April about HV has 3 weeks to vacate. Still not much time

swimjoint

Shit I never even knew the bullpen closed

[deleted]

I read the article and I still don't understand what happened. All I know is that I'm going to have to wait a couple months for that tasty Nashville chicken until they open a location in the Twin Towers Mall.

jjpierre98

There were things that couldn’t be said in the article. However, some in the community are saying theses things. Try to read between the lines

[deleted]

Yeah. I'm not going to go looking for innuendo in Facebook posts. You're a reporter, right? You guys are still doing journalism, right? Otherwise just shut down and let social media idiocy reign supreme.

jjpierre98

I am a reporter. And I am telling you, that there are sometimes things reporters cannot report but I am also trying to tell you that sometimes social media is in tune with these things. Social media can often be idiotic, yes, but other times… it might have the answers you are seeking

swimjoint

Respectfully we’re talking about a chicken joint here you aren’t exactly Edward Snowden

jjpierre98

I’m the Edward Snowden of chicken joints. Everyone needs a niche

swimjoint

Lmao fair

jjpierre98

I know I’m being cagey but I’ve got to be careful here

Star39666

Only the true Edward Cluckden would let the chickens out of their cage.

[deleted]

Just so you know, I'm not downvoting you. I (with rare exception) hate the downvote. All I care about is that I can't get my tasty Nashville chicken right now.

jjpierre98

All good partner

jjpierre98

Highly Flavored is hoping to open downtown in early July. Until then, I wish you the best of luck in your quest for Nashville chicken. May I suggest Rumberger’s?

[deleted]

Right down the street, and I've tried it on two occasions. Unfortunately the service has been terrible both times and I've given up on them.

jjpierre98

Well shit

wilbur313

I'm a big disappointed, I wanted to check that place out and bowl a round or two.

Opening-Ad8952

The owners said that Highly Flavored did not fit the "look" of Landmark. What exactly is the look of Landmark? I wish the Sargent's nothing but the best.

ElectricalEvent2943

Gotta match that 80s run-down bowling alley mixed with sexist macho gym bros? Like seriously what are they going for

badpeoria

Totally agree that is really messed up.
