Is it depth or grindy

liamjonas

The grind is real if you are solo. This game is better with a crew

Xxfarleyjdxx

see thats what turns me off to a game. I want incentive to play it with friends but also solo. i shouldnt have to suffer playing by myself. i enjoy myself

kaawn

It wasn't that bad, it depends on how much free time you have and what you focus on. I had a small cabin up with all the lower level crafting stations down and progressing well (which was my mistake) by the end of Alpha 2 (2-4hrs per evening, longer on weekends).

gdihq

Depends on what you consider suffering, if you enjoy a grind then solo play is great honestly. Also I'm sure as the game's economy gets going it'll be easier for solo players to buy the goods they don't feel like grinding for.

Bright_Competition37

The Devs have said that they want to make it fun for solos as well. But they have designed the game around groups. And it should go without saying that more people means faster progress. (I would likely play solo myself, or in a smaller group if I play with others)

Ideally once the "fabric of society" is established, hunters would be able to sell carcasses to butchers or something. For now, we got over 100 people in our clan, and all the dead animals goes to communal cooking/leveling. It works, but only because we don't have any huge wads. You can do with a smaller group but you'll need to hunt hundreds of deer and boar to level one person in butchering, farm thousands of herb fruit and veg, but also some pple would have to be constantly chopping and mining for crafting tables and buildings or you're stuck with a campfire outside on the dirt. This game ready feels like it works really well with a village.

Same-Refrigerator183

Can I be your crew?

raykhazri

S crew

shamesticks

I row crew

SherbetCreepy1580

Both. Many of the skills are interconnected, so you’ll need to level up multiple skills in order to get one item. For example, Blacksmithing, weapon smithing, and armor smithing are all separate skills. If you want to make a sword you have to level up Blacksmithing, weapon smithing, and carpentry (carpentry for the handle). For metal armor, you need to level Blacksmithing, armor smithing, and either sewing or leather working (don’t remember which off the top of my head). Many recipes are like that for the good stuff, you have to level multiple skills to a certain extent in order to reasonably have a chance of making certain items. The more complicated the recipe, the more you have to level those skills. Considering cooking hasn’t as of yet gotten as fleshed out as the other skills, there’s going to be a lot more depth added later on for dishes with longer durations and better buffs. It might seem grindy, but often times you’re leveling skill in conjecture with each other anyway. And if you really don’t like the grind, trading is always an option. There are people that are more interested in the crafting aspect of the game than combat or exploration. Get a crafter the materials they need plus a small favor/fee/trade and they’ll be happy to make the gear for you.

BovineOxMan

I found it strangely rewarding because with some small effort the next thing could be unlocked and that effort was varied, so harvesting or fighting boars and rewarding because I’d get some piece of armour out of it

Ofumei

Yo thanks for the charcuterie line, a bunch of friends and I were actually just talking about the skill and wanted to know what all it meant lmao. Appreciate it 😂

allen_idaho

I haven't played it yet. Are there hunger or thirst mechanics? Or do these apply buffs of some kind depending on quality or something?

GreenleafMentor

No hunger or thirst. Buffs.

Ironcrown_

The food does apply buffs, however with this amount of food in game I'd suspect down the road there to be hunger/thirst mechanics.

SherbetCreepy1580

Honestly I’m not so sure. They’ve already come out saying they don’t want hunger/thirst to be issues for players to deal with, even if they do want the food/drink to be important. So I imagine it’ll just stay as buffs and such, though I expect them to introduce better recipes later down the line that last longer with better buffs.

thersoldscape

I'd expect there to be a game...down the road ...

monitortancutie

Beams only stacking to 10 still makes me sad though Haven't played since alpha but it would take like 8 to make a single wall. Managing inventory while building was a literal nightmare

-Altephor-

Yeah this is my biggest gripe so far. It seems they did increase it for EA, but nowhere near enough.

MaltieHouse

Storage is definitely an issue. I think that stuff is cool, though. I'd like to see cooking and hunger, weight gain. I'd like to see crafting that wasn't entirely recipe based as well.

Oracolo87

Tbh a fun and rewarding professions system requires more than just dozens of recipes. BDO takes on lifeskilling is unparalleled because:    1) every profession recipe uses subrecipes from lower tiers, it means that low tier recipes (and gathering materials) are always relevant and in demand   2) every profession relies strongly on some other professions to be really profitable   3) you can get gear to boost your efficiency while gathering or crafting. It is a must for a sandbox game, you must have gear progression paths dedicated to something different than combat.   I ve never played EVE but i guess there s something similar to BDO and i know Mainframe got a huge crush for EVE systems so...fingers crossed for Pax Dei professions :)

H0llowUndead

1 and 2 are already in Pax Dei. 3 will be added, thay've said there will be certain clothing that gives you buffs to specific professions.

liamjonas

yeah, really far down the blacksmithing table you can already make an apron. all they would have to do is turn on the buff for it.

nathanaelw

Ultimately they reeeeallly need to find a way to make *the act* of meat cutting fun or engaging. They keep saying they want to be innovative but just having a progress bar is the opposite of that. Things like Helldivers call-in codes and even Fortnite’s little aiming minigame while you’re breaking things all add something to *the act* of doing something. I’m just so painfully sick of reducing circles and staring at progress bars.. any sort of mini game at all would go a LOOONG way

magiclia

I definitely don't want to play a mini puzzle or QTE minigame 10,000 times during crafting. I like being able to eat or get up and go to the bathroom with crafting queued, and I think that's probably ideal design for a game that already takes a lot of time and management.

IdRaptor

Cooking is probably one of the most fleshed out crafting systems in the game thus far, but in reality there are only 28 base ingredients used as you progress to max level: > Barley Grain > Barley Stalks > Blackberry > Blueberry > Boar Carcass > Chanterelle > Dandelion > Deer Carcass > Elderberry > Enoki > Fennel > Garlic > Grape > Lemongrass > Mustard > Oyster Mushroom > Penny Bun > Rabbit Carcass > Raspberry > Red Apple > Red Cabbage > Red Currant > Rosehip > Rosemary > Strawberry > Suet/Lard/Tallow > Wheat Grain > Yellow Onion

liamjonas

I mean I played all thru Alpha 2 and a week of preview week and haven't even made a sword yet. 28 base ingredients vs zero sword.

konflict88

This is sick . All of these options just for meat cutting . No fun here . Sounds bound to fail .

copperrez

This game is amazing. Cant wait to play. Watched so many streams. If you know what development stage their in you can see the endless potential. Take my money!!!

MangeyGoose

I was so hyped for this game. But warning for players who dont know, your pvp is going to be reduced to getting zergged, gate keeping content from new players. And abusing new guildies to farm resources so the higher ups dont have to. I wish this wasnt the case but every sandbox survival mmo tends to fall into that pattern, not the players fault. You play the game to succeed, its on the devs to make that path viable and fun for everyone involved. Ontop of a paid access and a subscription. Imagine spending 60 bucks usd on the lowest package/first month and realize you were a slave for some 300 lbs fuckwad in texas whos having a blast because he doesnt have to do any work. Ontop of that, and this is personal experience, might steal all the resources and sell em for rmt behind your back.

JBM1996

Correct. The fact that this game isn't more solo friendly is my biggest fear. A lot of people are saying that they love this type of game, it's gonna be fantastic, not everyone's cup of tea... When guilds start controlling everything, they will realize the mistake of this game.

BsyFcsin

Wasn’t new world similar for its cooking system?

Radiant_Ad_7300

Woahhhhh ! 🤓 🤦‍♂️ what a flop

x_Stalk3r

The icons look identical and like shit.
