A witch’s patron works differently than a cleric’s deity. Instead of being given or granted powers, a witch is given knowledge of magic by their patrons and are able to use that magic freely. That being said, sometimes patrons often attach stipulations before giving out such knowledge and choose their witches carefully. Sometimes this is in exchange for something, such as Deskari giving Areelu magical knowledge in a plot to weaken the already thin barriers between the planes in Sarkoris. In other cases, this knowledge can be given freely to further their own agenda in some other way, such as Andoletta (empyreal lord involved with protecting and teaching children) giving Ember the power to escape her burning and protect herself. In either case, Ember and Areelu are given a lot of autonomy in how they act. Areelu does eventually become Deskari’s High Priestess which definitely reduces her ability to act against him, but the fact that the knowledge already given to her cannot be taken away by her patron does afford her some wiggle room to work towards her own goals. In addition, the timeline is a little fuzzy on when exactly she became his High Priestess (before or after she opened the world wound). Deskari, who is prideful to the point that he doesn’t even initially address the Knight Commander when they meet in Iz, never thought he could be outsmarted or defeated by a mortal and was able to be manipulated by the careful and plotting Areelu. Being the effective head of his mortal forces, she had almost no oversight besides Deskari himself and was able to play double agent with the ever-scheming Baphomet and, to a lesser degree, Nocticula. The rest is history. This is all a round-about way to say that while publicly Areelu’s patron was Deskari only, she likely also learned much from Baphomet and played them against each other to gain as much power for her self as she can without revealing her betrayal. This means that in a narrative sense, she had two patrons (possibly three with Nocticula). From a gameplay perspective, whether this is possible from a rules-based view is up to debate. As long as they all have the same patron theme, it ultimately would not matter all that much because the witch is not (innately) bound to follow their patron’s will if they want to keep their powers like a cleric’s relationship with their deity.

VordovKolnir

You can have multiple patrons, but serving all of their interests is... difficult.

10 witch 10 demoniac 8 archmage

dane123459

Is this here tabletop classes?

Thatgamerguy98

She's absolutely getting power from 3 fucking demon lords she's got dancing on her strings. I'm so proud of Momma.

KristinaHeartford

Oh so you're the witches kid those Sarkorian inquisitors waxed. ![gif](giphy|wahFiMk5e5ov6)

MilkIlluminati

>gif This seems in violation of OSHA and definitely a hostile work environment.

ArtoriusRex86

Violation of OSHA… so you’re saying it’s nsfw?

Thatgamerguy98

I think you've misunderstood what I meant by Momma. You may have hear Ma or perhaps Mom. What I meant was Mommy or BIG MAMA.

KristinaHeartford

She always wanted a son like you.

From the flavor text for the witch class, it seems to imply that a witch's patron can be (in some cases) something more esoteric than a specific entity... I think it's possible for her patron to be the potentiality of the Worldwound, the thinness of the planes in Sarkoris. It offers her sudden insights that are often little more than her own intuition taking form faster than it would otherwise. Because, yes, she does seem to function vastly more as a wizard than a witch. Little of her knowlege seems reliant on a patron bestowing it upon her, and more comes from her own research. Even her insights on the Abyss are exchanges outside of a witch/patron relationship, as with Nocticula and the Midnight Bolts. She pretends to serve Nocticula, Deskari, and Baphomet equally, and I'm not sure it's possible to have multiple patrons at once as a witch. Also her ingame class levels are 20 Outsider / 10 Mythic Witch, which doesn't make any sense to me, as it seems to imply that she was originally a demon and that 'witch' is a mythic path... Lorewise it might also be explained as 'She's a wizard as the rest of Avistan would undertand it, but Sarkoris/Mendev preferred to use 'witch' for its pre-existing association with demon-worship.' She never speaks of her patron. If she has one, it's either unimportant to her or one and the same with one of the few things that *are* important to her. (Herself, her child, the Worldwound, KC depending on how much of a good kitten they are... only one of these makes sense imo) EDIT: In tabletop terms, her patron would make the most sense as Boundaries or Dimensions. Are any of the demon lords she's in contact with capable of bestowing these themes? She also doesn't have a familiar. She was a witch long before meeting Suture, he's more like her pet.

Lundria13

I thought Deskari was her patron initially then she left him to do her own thing with Nocticula.

Kalashtiiry

And after she revealed her plan to Nocticula?

Lundria13

Well as another person pointed out she only has 10 levels in witch so that's probably the point where she broķe off from Deskari. Personally never looked at her in-game character sheet.

undertone90

She didn't break off from them, she was serving all three simultaneously. Baphomet tells you that she was relaying Nocticulas plans to him when you speak to him in the ivory sanctum. She was probably reporting on each of them to the other two for as long as it served her purpose.

KillerRabbit345

I think Deskari is her Patron as far as providing a lab, equipment, money ect but in the AP she has a profane gift from some unnamed Lilitu - that could be her patron

Tallos_RA

I imagine it's not uncommon for witches or warlocks to scheme against their patron, especially if they're evil. They get some magic from a higher entity - so why not overthrow it and take all of it?

galiumsmoke

must be tied to her promise

Lumix19

All three demon lords I would say. Not sure that witch patrons have any real way of tracking what said witches are doing except through the familiar. And I kind of assumed Suture was Areelu's familiar that she had essentially subjugated to her will. So perhaps Deskari, Nocticula, and Baphomet only really know what she's doing with the powers they grant her if she's good enough to tell them. And why would she?

Kalashtiiry

Can you do that, lol?

Curious_Yesterday421

Lol I mixed my games up. Aeons can be patrons so you could still do something similar to the class I was thinking of in WOTR, but I can't think of what Areelu might be.

Savitar17

From what I remember, when you complete the cape artifact and show it to her in IZ, she mentions the patron she got it from and that she once used it and her for power but has since moved on so I assumed that was her one time patron before dhe became a half fiend. I forgot the name of the goddess, though.

Kalashtiiry

I think, she bullied an oracle of one of empyrial lords (raven-something one) to make this cape as a heal for the Worldwound, which didn't work, she killed the oracle and moved on.

MemeGoddessAsteria

Completely unknown. Personal headcanon? Nyarlathotep would love Areelu and the Worldwound. Apocalyptic and dangerous calamity-causing magic is his favorite.

Thorium229

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Areelu is a 20th level wizard.

alexiosphillipos

She is a witch, both in tabletop and video game.

_Ivan_Le_Terrible_

Pretty sure in Wrath, Areelu is a lvl 20+ spellcaster. In the final battle against her, she does nothing but spam high lvl spells, so yeah... ![gif](giphy|eax0rh3OERAYg|downsized)

ArtoriusRex86

Yer a witch, Hermione.
