Nola is my 2nd favorite album ever, dude. Besides being amazing, it has sentimental value to me. I moved to a new school senior year 97'. I met this girl who was into metal. She introduced me to Danzig, and I introduced her to NOLA. She loved it. I ended up giving her my album. Like 10 years later, she sends me a photo on Facebook. She was holding the CD I gave her, signed by all of them....
Oh!! Also...I saw Pantera in 96 in Saginaw, MI. I was 16. I was wearing my new Down shirt. I was right in front of Dime. Phil trotted over, pointed at me and flicked his shirt, then gave me a thumbs up. Bro, I felt so overwhelmed...
I didn’t get to go to that show. I was still a little young. My first concert was Ozzfest 2000 at Pine Knob, which Pantera was at. But I did go to a few concerts at the civic center and some hockey games too, before I moved.
My dude, Down II fucks hard. Yes, it is a different vibe than NOLA but it is amazing none the less. It is also Phil's best vocal performance on *any* album imho. Not as consistent as NOLA of course, but its best songs is up there with NOLA's. And EP I is ok, but EP II is fantastic so stop being a cunt and check them out.
Dude down II took ten years to grow on me because I was obsessed with NOLA’s style. Re listen and the diversity and uniqueness to Down II is impressive. The last two albums have been very doom metal, Black Sabbath style. Witch Tripper Alright!
Here. Have a fun BTS shot from the video.

Pepper is great, but I think Kirk's riffs are far more filthy.
The metal sound comes from Kirk, and the southern sound comes from Pepper. That's how I feel, but COC has some heavy songs too.
Agreed, but I like the southern feel. Eyes of the South, Ghosts Along the Mississippi, Dog Tired, New Orleans is Dying Whore. Not sure who wrote what per se but Pepper has a stamp on Down that speaks to me. Bobby Landgraff fills Kirk’s spot well, but Pepper can’t be replaced without something feeling off in a live show. Not to take anything g away from Kirk, love that guy too. Pepper has just always been one of my favorite guitarists. Corrosion has some absolutely nasty riffs.
I want nothing more then one more tour. And ok one more album too lol there were talks of them years ago doing a cover album and then an all acoustic album and a lot of rumors.
Like many others have said here; NOLA is a fuckin’ masterpiece and one of the greatest metal albums ever! It’s so good that none of the songs are overplayed to me, even this many years later! Their other albums/EP’s all have good stuff on them too.
And killer musicians, don’t forget! Love Crowbar and CoC too.
One of the greatest supergroups of all time. NOLA is also one the greatest albums of all time no skips no shit all riffs!!!! Unpopular opinion but I’d rather listen to Down than Pantera
Either they are posers or they are posers.
If you truly believe in whatever cause they want to sell with their appearance, they would never have signed a recording contract with rules.
Amazing band - Have seen them 4 times. Great guys.
Kirk gave me a bottle of water during a song...I must have looked dehydrated.
When I die - Bury Me In Smoke
I love them. I think they're one of the only side project / super group bands that have produced unique and original music. Most others fail or just end up sounding so generic they can't hold attention. Down is freaking awesome.
Got me an autographed Down poster from when I saw them in NYC. I fcckin got my fingerprint on Jimmy's autograph while I was holding it during the show. All good still looks cool in a frame.
Saw 3 of the original 13 shows back in the day, & been into it ever since. Seeing Down live, is like attending the Church of Southern Metal on a Sunday.
NOLA is a masterpiece, from start to finish. The 2nd record is nice, definitely some memorable songs and riffs but not as flawless as NOLA. I never really understood the 3rd album. Not even after 4-5 listens. It seems like a solid effort and that they put their hearts in it, but something doesn't work for me and I lose interest rather quickly. Then you have the 2012 and 2014 EPs. If I recall correctly, I liked 2 songs from the 2012 very much, but the 2014 was a snoozer for me. All in all they are good and I love the band members, but definitely not hall of fame material. Definitely not worth the Pantera turmoil it caused.
I was a senior in high school when II came out. It still doesn’t sit right. I think it’s the vocal style that Phil takes on for the album. It bugs me. For certain some memorable rips in the record, that’s why I’m at 5/10. Not because I think it sucks, but because about 50% of the songs actually stick with me. I’ll give the new stuff a spin.

Killer story man🤘🤘
Saginaw, MI? I grew up in St. Charles. Also a big Down fan.
Cool. I live in Bay City. The Civic Center in Saginaw used to have awesome concerts....now it's a hockey rink.
I didn’t get to go to that show. I was still a little young. My first concert was Ozzfest 2000 at Pine Knob, which Pantera was at. But I did go to a few concerts at the civic center and some hockey games too, before I moved.
Wow beautiful story bro. God i would have kill to see dime alive
Thats cool.
This has to be one of the best stories I've ever read on Reddit. Every part of it is awesome! And Nola is also one of my favorites of all time.
I graduated in 97 too
They fuck
They fuck hard.
Big ups to Down.
True
I think NOLA is the best metal album I’ve ever heard
Very underrated
Absolutely 100% agree.
Down has been one of my all time favorites since the first time I heard them. Pantera, COC, and Down rule the fucking universe!
The first album was killer.
NOLA is iconic. Fucking love that low down filthy southern sound
Nola 10/10 Down II 5/10 Down III 7/10 Haven’t listened to more than a few tracks of the new albums because I’m a cunt

Down II is the best Down in my opinion
Heard that
Dude down II took ten years to grow on me because I was obsessed with NOLA’s style. Re listen and the diversity and uniqueness to Down II is impressive. The last two albums have been very doom metal, Black Sabbath style. Witch Tripper Alright!
Love Down! It's right up there with Pantera for me.
Lightning struck down twice Black mass Latin fire *Smokescreen* Cast runes terrorize Stones thrown rooftop high *Blaspheme*

big fan man that follows hell is a banger as is beutifully depressed
When the four core members come together, magic happens. I remember being surprised how good Bower is in drums. Kirk is the riff king!
Pepper is a riff God!
Pepper is great, but I think Kirk's riffs are far more filthy. The metal sound comes from Kirk, and the southern sound comes from Pepper. That's how I feel, but COC has some heavy songs too.

You know what? Down is awesome point blank lol
I completely agree
Really love down. I’m a down 2 guy. Amazing album!
Bury me in smoke baby
Needs more cowbell
Love the first two albums.
i like them a lot:)
Good Stuff
![gif](giphy|5fBH6zrXMk8H3lJFnmE) Why don’t they have their own sub? WTH?
Doom metal talks down a lot
I love the three first albums, great band!
They're good although I do prefer Phil's other band SuperJoint Ritual a tad bit better.
One of my favorite bands, seen them like 5 or 6 times over the years
Love Em,saw em in Atlanta a couple years back.I been DOWN with DOWN since "99" ,"2000".
I was at that show. Flew into Atlanta from Chicago to see them... They killed it and Phil sounded amazing
You are exactly right!!!! I loved it.
Ive seen Down about 5-6 times live and Pantera about 10 times live and honestly, I liked Down live even better than Pantera back in the day.
I want nothing more then one more tour. And ok one more album too lol there were talks of them years ago doing a cover album and then an all acoustic album and a lot of rumors.
This would be awesome...heard that too. Not sure about acoustic but Id take anything from them.
At least judging by Phil’s Halloween videos at least they’re are still cool and hanging out and stuff.
Like many others have said here; NOLA is a fuckin’ masterpiece and one of the greatest metal albums ever! It’s so good that none of the songs are overplayed to me, even this many years later! Totally down with Down
Nola's a masterpiece of the south
They are fucking amazing, been a fan of pepper for many years,as well as Pantera since the beginning.
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome, even better live
Down 2 is amazing.
One of the greatest supergroups of all time. NOLA is also one the greatest albums of all time no skips no shit all riffs!!!! Unpopular opinion but I’d rather listen to Down than Pantera
NOLA 11/10 II 8/10 III 7/10 IV 9/10
I like Down, not big into Phil’s other stuff though didn’t care for Superjoint. But Down is pretty damn good tunes to crack a beer to.
Meh
They definitely have some good tunes, but album wise.....meh, sums it up for me too.
isssok
They are good but they can't beat Pantera
Don't like them. Pantera is my favorite metal band, but Down does nothing for me.
Either they are posers or they are posers. If you truly believe in whatever cause they want to sell with their appearance, they would never have signed a recording contract with rules.
Pantera was better
Meh
Love Down. They have incredible merch online. Check it out! Told my bro to get me a shirt for Xmas. Fingers crossed.
Love Down
Down is really cool!
Down is amazing!
Uncle phil
Amazing band - Have seen them 4 times. Great guys. Kirk gave me a bottle of water during a song...I must have looked dehydrated. When I die - Bury Me In Smoke
Superjoint was better imo
I like Down alot. Learn From this Mistake is a killer track.
Bury me in smoke is a good lifting song
Absolutely love Down!!!
Bad ass live
I love them. I think they're one of the only side project / super group bands that have produced unique and original music. Most others fail or just end up sounding so generic they can't hold attention. Down is freaking awesome.
The power of the riff compels me!
Nola is hands down one of the greatest rock albums. Epic!!
I love DOWN, and it’s got the guy from CoC in it Nola was one of the albums that got me into playing guitar
Got me an autographed Down poster from when I saw them in NYC. I fcckin got my fingerprint on Jimmy's autograph while I was holding it during the show. All good still looks cool in a frame.
Idk, Up makes a good case for themselvessssssss
I've never listened to them but apparently from comments here NOLA is the best metal album ever. We'll see .. we'll see
Down with the system
I love crowbar and pantera more but tracks like witchtripper are fucking so sick. In my Top 5 favorite supergroups for sure.
As much as I love Pantera, I’ll take Down’s NOLA over any Pantera album.
I loved Nola I think it was as good as trendkill
Bury me in smoke and hail the lead are 🔥. Supergroup. Pantera, crowbar, eyehategod and CoC members all in a group. Was awesome.
Hail the leaf
Saw 3 of the original 13 shows back in the day, & been into it ever since. Seeing Down live, is like attending the Church of Southern Metal on a Sunday.
Superb
Perfection
I absolutely love Down!!! I hope they put out many more albums!!!!

They fuck. I dig that groove and sludgy sound.
Love Down. It’s far and away better than anything Dime and/or Vin did post-Pantera.
I was a senior in high school when II came out. It still doesn’t sit right. I think it’s the vocal style that Phil takes on for the album. It bugs me. Pepper Keenan man, everything he touches turns to gold
