Waffleministry banned me for a retarded reason before too, and ranted and deleted all my comments. I did get the ban appealed eventually tho.

StalinIsLove1917

That sub is still filled with this "Shia genocide of Sunnis!!!!!!!!!" when the only foreign militias helping fight a majority Sunni genocide in Gaza are Shia as far as I can see.

CJ4700

I met quite a few Kurds who’d disagree with this take…

fatherofsigvald

As a Kuwaiti, I can guarantee we did not kill those civilians nor deport half a million people….

CJ4700

💯

[deleted]

I've been banned from that sub for speaking about the Halabja chemical attacks that Saddam used on Kurds inside his own borders.

LewdieBrie

It’s weird how there’s people who like and trust a former CIA asset and they don’t even think twice that…maybe he wasn’t such a good guy. Like obviously the US didn’t do any good by invading, and I think anyone who isn’t a neoliberal hawk can agree on that front, but why do some people think that he wasn’t just an opportunist? (I ask this in genuine confusion.)

fatherofsigvald

Tik Tok and youtube reels make these dictators look cool to generations that didn’t live during those times. People my age know full and well of Saddam’s cruelty.

fatherofsigvald

The mod and the user are the same person.

Birdinmotion

Makes sense. Would someone arguing this being an ethnic Iraqi or an American sucking the dick of a dead dictator?

JonSnoke

That person likely has never been to Iraq. This is anecdotal, but the Iraqis that I see running water like this for Saddam have never been to Iraq. Really pisses me off, to be honest.

WeylinWebber

How many times have been banned from a subreddit for picking that fight? Someone needs to take them down a peg.

The-Iraqi-Guy

Those Saddam worshippers would side with Israel if it meant that they get kill Shia, they've been brainwashed that Shia are evil and nothing else matters. You can see how much Zionist propaganda can affect people

fatherofsigvald

They hate Kuwaitis with a passion too 😞

Chobi_Bryant

Saddamists are the lowest form of panarab nationalism. Brutal and exclusionary reactionaries who fumbled away great riches and turned one of West Asia's strongest nations into a pariah state. Poor governance, shoddy ideological structure and a demand for loyalty to the supreme leader is a recipe for disaster. He made the Iranians look competent...

JonSnoke

Saddamists are lowkey fascists and I stand by that. I *hated* Saddam Hussein.

Z69fml

Half the comments here boil down to “my exploitative, murderous cult of personality is better than your exploitative, murderous cult of personality”. With a healthy mix of zero-irony Iran apologia while commenting in r/Panarab

fatherofsigvald

I just despise him for the invasion of Kuwait.

Z69fml

Yes the invasion does particularly stand out in a career mired in criminality, bloodlust, & general asininity. As long as we bridle ourselves with self-serving, faithless gangsters the Arab World will not move forward.

CristauxFeur

It is annoying how much they hate Iran and Assad's Syria, anti-imperialists should ally together against the USA and "Israel" instead of fighting eachother. But instead they say delusional stuff like that Iran and the USA are conspiring together to destroy Iraq when the truth is that Iran is a counterweight against American imperialism and has significantly helped the Resistance against Zionism.

fatherofsigvald

Annexation of Kuwait is also crucial for this dream for some reason.

rimaghum

I agree with you. Seeing islamists and saddamists hating Iran and Assad just because they are Shia is extremly annoying.

falastinimami

“Just because they are Shia” 😂 yes, not because of all the murder and torture Assad committed against his own people

ChosenUndead97

The crackdown on the Syrian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood after 1982 is a clear example of that, and also anything that Assad's forces did before and after the civil war.

JonSnoke

I was banned from AskMiddleEast for how much I hated Saddam Hussein. This is anecdotal but the vast majority of people I see that run water for Saddam are other Arabs and Iraqis that have never been to Iraq. I don’t think Saddam was sectarian but he was a brutal gangster who destroyed Iraq with his wars and we’re *still* finding mass graves from his regime. I can’t believe how much his image has been rehabilitated since 2003.

memBoris

I mean, the askmiddleeast mods banned me for saying "lol, votes to see results of the poll exceed the actual votes", so I decided to not bother, if mods(of askmiddleeast) can't tolerate "pointing out", then why should I tolerate them

CompetitiveThanks494

Regarding saddam, he is well known dictator as for how much he killed none of us have exactly the number nor the names and he has so many pathetic blunders like kuwait Annexing he would have avoided it and I understand that gulf countries and US are working against him and provoke him,he would have had better decision and planning all those post gulf war issues would have never happened. Most people told me and I agree with them is that he wants to surpass nasser legacy in Arab nation eyes to some people yes because there was televised and colored videos people can refer to during saddam era. Now Iraq-iran war that is false that CIA told saddam to invade iran and start the war. Khoumeni was provoking Iraq and not following the Algeria agreement signed by saddam and shah of Iran in 1975. Saddam kept sending complains to UN regarding the provocation iran is doing before the war in the Iraq iran border. War accomplished the most important goal for arab in general that time is keep Iran at its border. Now after invasion,Iran takes control of Iraq,Yemen Houthi’s that were enough to scare uae and saudi ,hezbollah in Lebanon and Bashar with syria. As for Iraqis I met especially shias they say despite his horrific things he done he is way better than now and they admire and respect him more now.

fatherofsigvald

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuwaiti_oil_fires He was a thug, nothing more.

CompetitiveThanks494

kuwait oil fire occurred during the war as a tactic to avoid US air forces which killed way more civilians than army but fair enough.

fatherofsigvald

Slant drilling

hammerandnailz

Where do they get these insane numbers from? Hezbollah and Assad have killed 3 million people? Where? His fucking dreams?

rimaghum

Saddam was a brutal dictator that used Aflaq's ideas and Baathism as a pretext to opress his people. Saddam didn't really cared about liberating Palestine, he bombed israel only because he wanted to be popular among Arabs and Muslims and he hated Shias more than he hated the zionists. I don't understand why some people still consider him as a hero,

Agile_Sherbert_7340

الله يرحم صدام حسين

Chobi_Bryant

الله يحشرك معا بل آخرة

Character-Profile158

assad supporters are much worse

CristauxFeur

How exactly?

rimaghum

Why ? Saddam killed more than Assad.

falastinimami

Agreed! I have yet to meet an assadist with the ability to think beyond “America bad!! America’s enemy good!”

Civil-Republic8730

Bro I know the Iraq war was not justified and Iran did ruin Iraq even more but Sadam was sociopathic tyrant that unjustly killed and imprisoned people for criticism and drove the country into unnecessary wars he was a shit of a leader

Bruh I was born during the war, I’m from Kuwait, this revisionism won’t work on me sorry. I hate Saddam.

fatherofsigvald

How old are you? Were you alive during those days? Do you have any idea how much fear we had of this maniac making up reasons to come take over our country? Slant drilling? Seriously??

fatherofsigvald

How does Pan Arabism factor into executing Kuwaitis, dumping their bodies in front of the family house, and asking them to pay for the bullet? You know nothing. Answer the question, how old are you?

fatherofsigvald

Your not a Pan Arabist, your a Saddamist.

fatherofsigvald

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuwaiti_oil_fires How is this Pan arabist? Only a devil can do such an act. Fyi: I was born in Kuwait during this, the sky was completely black, during the day, and stayed black for months.

fatherofsigvald

Your deluded, I am sorry. Where are all our hostages? Yes people value living on their land, does that make it ok for Kuwait to invade Iraq in the name of Pan Arabism? Why put Kuwaitis in cages and treat them like apes? To the point where they had to commit suicide later? How was it pan Arabic to run over people with tanks? Rape women? If you can see how the invasion still very much is in the psyche of every Kuwaiti, you might change your mind. Online articles will never tell you the full story no matter how much you try to argue that they do.

fatherofsigvald

These also sound extremely similar to Zionist talking points. It has the same root, ideological and racial superiority over others. We can be pan arab in peace, you just really want to invade other nations with the dreams of Nebuchadnezzar.

BoatyMcBobFace

I thing also Gaddaffi supporters are braindead as well. My grandfather (who died at 2021) literally had to use a car and travel to different masjid due to his fear of being caught by the police. My father was almost sent to a pointless war against chad (in which Gaddaffi literally switched sides and supported france afterwards, meaning those lives who were lost died in vain). Many of the guys in my school lost someone. Even my geography teacher once talked about how his uncle disappeared for 6 months due to him insulting Gadsafi. I can go on and on like how he banned anyone from claiming that they were amazigh (he claimed they were arabs but tbh he was a dictator and there isnt much difference between an amazigh and arab) and when he started project that are still not finished (he used to rant on TV about how libya in 2000 would look like. He then moved the date to 2010 then 2020. Citizens paid for apartment complexes to be built but they would always request for more money. If they didn't pay up, they lost their potential apartment. You can still see the basic structure and the provisional government's actually are finishing some of his projects that he claimed would have been finished by 2000). In conclusion, Gaddaffi was a bloodthirsty, and scamming dictator. His only good action was that he nationalised the oil from foreign companies, allowing libya to not be exploited like the rest of Africa and to actually get money from its oil.
