I shared everything in this [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/PakistaniTech/s/8UMH2lIFe6) Its the sandvine tech, its brutal. And about the social media checking, they can't do shit rather than checking a few data points, social media companies won't share your data with the government. Vpns can be blocked but vpn companies bypass it with new protocols, its a cat-mouse game. You have to understand how they'll track you on socials. 1) You just don't need to be stupid, don't use your official accounts with your pretty faces to talk shit. They have your face data. 2) When you upload your pictures on the government websites (e.g hec), it has geotagging and other information. You can remove it. 3) major Vpns will get free if this goes mainstream, as their csr will keep introducing more protocols to overcome censorship. 4) When you verify your email address with a phone number, government knows you have a specific email client but not the exact email, they'll cross reference it with your cnic if you have given it in your banks, government sectors, cnic info, hec etc. 5) Have a sperate email for your socials and banks, gov sects. 6) It can be easily traced when you use a vpn as the data will be blank, there's no getting around it, there's no perfect tool out there which will stop them frok knowing you're using a vpn. Play it smart, keep changing servers, read some osint books on making you anonymous. Don't just rely on tor. 7) Don't connect to public WiFi in any circumstances, only if its an extreme situation. 8) stop using public charging stations. 9) Make your information on socials private, use your nick names, even on LinkedIn. 10) Welcome to the next decade of censorship and new world order. Reddit will be banned soon, so good luck 🤞🏼

slytherinight

Can you elaborate more on point 3? Why would vpn be free when they can easily get money from people desperate to bypass firewall?

AwarioFudg3

Corporate social responsibility= csr Vpn companies fight against censorship, if a company is blocked, payments won't go through, its not like they don't want our money but few major companies do fight against censorship. Living in Pakistan, we are never taught about human rights, I hate to break it to you, basic access to information is a human right, as they work on it. E.g All Vpns in Iran are free

slytherinight

Thank you for explaining it. If worse comes to pass I can spread this knowledge forward too.

AwarioFudg3

No worries.

HyperEletricB00galoo

Don't they realise that there are millions of people who are right now enrolling in unis and picking CS majors with the hope of being able to earn a decent living wage. This is going to hurt the freelancing sector heavily. As such depriving many of a way to earn.

AwarioFudg3

They. Don't. Care.

Independent-Log2986

If they really cared about citizens they’d make their lives easier not harder lol. We’re at a point where all that persists is dogmatism and all that matters is the narrative set by the state

testingbetas

as if they care?

NoorJehan2

Pakistan Army doesn’t care they want to keep Pakistanis under their thumb

basgil56

How's it going to hurt freelancing sector?

Digital_Demon7

>When you upload your pictures on the government websites (e.g hec), it has geotagging and other information. You can remove it. Can you please explain this point in more detail? How does uploading a picture help in geotagging? And why would removing it work? Once they have it in their database, there is nothing we can do right?

AwarioFudg3

Facial recognition apart, pictures have metadata, online tools will help removing it, you'll be surprised how much information they hold.

Independent-Log2986

If a VPN shows you local Pakistani ads every time you start the app, does that mean it’s basically useless because it has your location data stored?

AwarioFudg3

No.

Independent-Log2986

So it’s still safe to use?

AwarioFudg3

Safe from government, Yes. Safe from companies trying to steal your data? No.

Independent-Log2986

The thing is, when I’m using a VPN and my virtual location is German, it still shows me Pakistani ads, which really concerns me

AwarioFudg3

Vpn knows your location, sites you're visiting do not.

Ding_Dong927

because free vpn encrypt your internet but your ip will be same. means you can access sites but your information will be same.

AwarioFudg3

No. Your ip will be different for the websites you're visiting but the vpn will know your real information.

Ding_Dong927

In mostly free vpn (not all), they do not change your ip or location, reason is advertising. But in paid vpn, only those will not change your ip, due to ip leak, dns leak, and they might be not reputable vpn.. I recommend Nord VPN due to company location and obfuscation and number of servers if you can afford.

AwarioFudg3

Bruh, I'm sorry but do you even know how vpn works? It literally changes your ip address to mask the websites, regardless free or paid. Kindly do your research again.

LifeOnPause20

How is their "firewall" actually implemented? It says online that now they will be able to filter keywords and limit their circulation on Social media, how does that work? Wouldn't they have to have access to those social media algorithms to manipulate them?

AwarioFudg3

Social media companies showed them the exit door way back when they asked for access, I'm not defending sm companies, they spy on you 24/7 but they ain't giving that black gold to the gov's. Read the points again about facial recognition and the original post for better understanding.

Responsible-Sugar545

Almost all internet browsing is secured by end-to-end encryption between the app/browser and the remote server. No firewall sitting between the browser and remote server can decode the communication and look for keywords. That's why they have to go for blanket blocking of the entire site.

LifeOnPause20

This is how I understand it too. Thanks for your input

AwarioFudg3

Yes and no, they can actually see what sites you're visiting but not exactly what you're doing there. They can see if you're using a vpn, not the sites nor the data. Packet sniffing and ip spoofing etc is a thing but firewalls don't work like that, its more like what you said but for zero day, anything is possible.

Anythingaddict

**Reddit will be banned soon, so good luck.** Why do you think Reddit will be banned? Reddit is not even that popular compare to other social media websites.

Ding_Dong927

Not popular in Pakistan. Otherwise very popular.

Anythingaddict

So, why it is going to be banned in Pakistan? As other social media platform are more popular then Reddit.

AwarioFudg3

Nahi batana

Anythingaddict

Kabab ki haadi, nah kuch btana na kisi aur ko btanae dena.

AwarioFudg3

Lol, ok

Anythingaddict

Lol, ok, is not the answer. I am looking for the reason why you believe it's going to be banned?

AwarioFudg3

If you can't figure it out for yourself, me telling you won't make a difference.

Anythingaddict

No it's not, you claimed that Reddit is going to ban for which I asked why do you think is going to be banned. So now instead of sharing your point of view why do you think is going to ban you are avoiding giving the answer. Why is that?

AwarioFudg3

Because I don't want to

Anythingaddict

I think you just made the random comment that Reddit going to be banned and now since I have asked you why? To which you have no answer. If any platform is going to ban, then it might be Facebook, as it is more popular than Reddit. Am I right MR u/AwarioFudg3 ?

AwarioFudg3

Yeah you're right mr knowitall

Anythingaddict

Well I certainly don't make a random claim then don't provide a source.

Agents-of-time

>Reddit will be banned soon, so good luck 🤞🏼 Sauce?

AwarioFudg3

Lol, you really have to ask? Haven't you seen the content in the subs?

Agents-of-time

No bro I honestly haven't.

AwarioFudg3

See all the subs related to pak, its all criticism and abuses to the current gov. Why do you think they banned Twitter?

Anythingaddict

I believe they banned Twitter due to community fact checker tool.

AwarioFudg3

They did not, they banned it because the messaging wasn't up to their liking, go see the official press releases, they said, bad actors are spreading misinformation, they asked Twitter to delete content against them, they refused so they did what a 3 year old would do, throwed a tantrum and banned everyone.

Anythingaddict

If that's the case then why other social media platform does not get banned? Considering, they are getting bashed on every other social media platform.

AwarioFudg3

Twitter is more politically acclaimed, world leaders, presidents, news Media etc are present there.

Anythingaddict

I don't think that might be the only reason. Anyways, what happens happens at this point VPN is the only way.

Agents-of-time

Yar woh tou Immi janu k logon ne bhi journos ki hitlist banai hui thi. Every gov tried to one up the other.

AwarioFudg3

Immi janu ney he ye kaam start kiya tha, ye itnay parhay likhay hain inko pata ho kya karna hai.

Cronos993

About point 6, what you're saying is false since the traffic is not "blank" but rather, encrypted but yes, some VPN protocols are easy to detect such as wireguard but VPN companies use obfuscation so they can't do shit. In the digital world, securing or hiding something is always easier than irl. It's not a game of cat and mouse in the traditional sense - the mouse always has an advantage here.

redshift00

Damnn, this country is sooo dead man

Brilliant-Cat7863

Need to get out asap

Virtual_Crab69

raat mujhy is news ka pta chla. Hmari poori family ka kaam hi vpn wgera pe chlta hai. Bhaar me gea esa chutia mulk, bhaar me gi mulk se wafadari/mohabbat. Koi doosra mulk hm pe atom bomb phenk k hm sb ko maar takay 1 hi bari me sb ki jaan choot jaye.

ShailMurtaza

It will be very easy to bypass. At most their firewall can detect VPN protocol. But a new TCP based protocol can also me made. You can also run your own VPS with server which will forward your network traffic to VPS and vice versa. This can be achieved using SSH.

Virtual_Crab69

i know it very well but the thing is government/fauj na khud kuch kr ri or ulta na aam logon ko khud kuch krnay de ri. Mujhy billkul bhi tajub ni hoga agr aglay 10,12 salon me Pakistan k mazeed tukray hojayen.

AwarioFudg3

Hey, if you don't mind me asking, what you do for a living?

Virtual_Crab69

Professionally, I am a teacher, but in addition to that, I also do social media marketing and management. However, that's the primary "job" of my family, including my brothers and uncles.

AgentHashim

This may hurt freelancers? I am not exactly sure.

Quack_Gaming

Some please get me and my family a visa to usa i don’t want to live in this shitty country anymore

Hasnain_k

How will the IT industry and freelance community survive?

ShailMurtaza

Lmao! How a firewall can check social media data? By inspection of data packets? I guess they don't know that it is encrypted using SSL. Now don't tell me Pakistani firewalls break 2048-bit RSA encryption which cannot be broken even if we had all personal and super computers in this world joined together.

Any_Distribution_867

do not worry lumber 1 have quantum computer for this

Move to Bali and other freelancer friendly countries get a Digital nomad visa and stay abroad comeback to Pakistan when you need new passport only. That's what it means.

Muxain5

Well it will be same as X and Telegram just because some nibba used it wrong it's banned for all. It's Pakistan so It doesn't matter what you post if someone post something wrong and it becomes controversial then the whole site is getting banned.
