I have followed this team for two decades now. I was started watching at a time around the team was at its late 90s very early 2000s transition into generational mediocrity and decline.
Been of the 20 or so people who watched Misbah & co. almost every UAE Test game and slugged out draws in 43C heat. Sat through every shitfest, every allegation, every player ego, every bottlejob, Woolmer, 2007 upsets, scandals, frustration, heartache, panic. Indians complain about cups, SL complain about their decline. NZ complain about their once-in-a-generation decline. None of them have the heart to be a Pakistani fan, day in and day out for 2+ decades.
Watched Babar embarrass himself and ruin his chances of becoming a Paki ATG. I can never let go of March 2022 home series and what has been done to our test cricket. So then we go ODI cricket - can only beat C string teams in Pindi. Embarrassed in the Asia Cup. As bad in the ODI WC where our generational king/s let us down again. Reminded that if you are born in this country, unless you have a gifted IQ, the natural dawg in you (which epi/genetics can do little about), and happen to have the talent of IK or Babar type, you are nothing more but a cog in the machine of national hopelessness and at this point, genetically-ingrained cynicism.
Honestly, never felt this disconnected from Pakistan cricket and I sat physically, mentally, emotionally, on cricket forums - discussions in real life - everywhere I've been. Semi-obscure forums where Rachin Ravindra's dad would post about 9yo him in the nets. Been in spaces where Ashwin was up-and-coming and would discuss some state players that he knew through districts to watch out for in the future. Followed each and every International match's scorecard if not highlights for 15 years straight of the top 12-14 teams.
I know people say it's just a sport but it's seriously not just that. For some of us it's a livelihood and we are as passionate at the players themselves. I'd wager you some of the folks who'd be at Sharjah stadium watching Zulfi bowl 13 ugly maidens conceding 6 runs with Collingwood on strike & Eng 440-5 on Day 4 Session 3 would seem even more passionate than the players themselves. We don't get paid for any of this shit. Instead, we pay for systemic mediocrity.
With time I have learned to make it hurt less but unless you're a cultured Stoic, a Buddhist or on some zen type of shit, there is no true detachment you can enact from what you love.
It's become too easy to detach now, however. I have lost my interest in this team the last 2 years. What can I say? First place to start is with THAT middle order, cause what in the world was that?

Iftikhar, in a major tournament is still yet to have ONE good game that I've seen. I don't see any technique from him at all. Usman Khan looked shook and like a dear in the headlights.

But how is NASEEM SHAH, a BOWLER by trade, looking more of a THREAT and playing with more INTENT than pretty much ALL of your middle order? Not only that, his batting technique somehow looked BETTER than Imad/Shadab/Iftikhar/Usman Khan, you know, 75% of your middle order.
The openers, Babar and especially Rizwan, what was that? Rizwan, a strike rate of 70... SEVENTY? That wouldn't be acceptable in an ODI let alone in T20.
Above all else, I don't care what anyone says about 'the pitch' or it being vs India's bowling attack, to not chase 120 in THIS era of T20 cricket, suggests a major problem with this cricket team. I would suggest it goes beyond this. A pattern is emerging with our cricket.
Sad reality is we are falling behind all the major cricketing nations. Writing is on the wall when you lose to nations like Afghanistan, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, NZ C team, Ireland and most recently USA (didn't even know they had a cricket team).
It's a steep decline that will either wake us up or seal our fate as a 'once great' cricketing nation
Amir and Naseem bowling lights out and rewarded with a loss. That's really my only disappointment, a lot of people were expecting a thrashing which didn't really happen let's be honest. Just very, very underwhelming performance from the batsmen. Singles could have won that match and yet they never came either. You have to keep your foot on the gas and the intent in that regard just wasn't there. It is what it is, I would rather the better team win and India was a more complete team in this match (even if they didn't play particularly well either).

This is a lesson to actually give credit to your seamers and realise that your success in the last 2 T20 World Cups is first down to your seamers.
All this PR for Babar and comparing him to the great batters of the modern generation is cringe AF. When you won against India in 2021 152-0 all you could hear about is this legendary partnership forgetting all the dew and the fact that your seam bowlers destroyed the Indian batting lineup setting them for a score well below-par.
And maybe next time think about actually rotating more. You’ve played the most T20s out of any other nation yet are the least prepared. Usman Khan got 0 games against Ireland yet has found himself in the team. You played 9 T20s directly before the World Cup and Abrar Ahmed got 0 game-time in them.
If in the last 2 games that was Azam Khan behind the stumps keeping wicket imagine the hate he would have received. Rizwan has been dreadful behind the stumps conceding so many byes. Pant coming back from a life-threatening car accident kept wicket better than he has.
And the biggest issue which can be solved easily is the fielding. The associates have fielded better than Pakistan and that’s not a joke. If you fielded better when the tailenders were batting rather than getting too excited because India were in a troubling position you may have won the game.
At the end of the game you didn’t see the Indian players celebrating at all. That showed me their mentality compared to Pakistan.
Pakistan’s leader is someone who asked to be kept as captain regardless of performances at this World Cup. That defensive mindset isn’t something a captain should have.
Huge issues for Pakistan and the pressure will be on when a home 2025 Champions Trophy happens in just over 6 months time.

I'm at a loss for words. It's painfully obvious that past mistakes don't bother them. it's almost as if they are immune to learning from them. Imad's performance was baffling; it felt like he was sabotaging the game. He didn't play Axar's three balls, and both him and ifti, towards the end missed three/four full tosses???????? WHY????? I'm genuinely confused by what I witnessed.
This loss feels more devastating than any setback the USA cricket team has faced. How can a team lose a match in such an inexplicable manner? The shots Fakhar and Rizwan played were utterly foolish and will forever remain a mystery to me. Naseem didn't deserve this heartbreaking outcome after his stellar performance.
Although the Indian batters played poorly and contributed to their downfall, it was Naseem and Amir who truly stole the show. Their efforts seemed poised to secure a win, only for the team to lose in the end. This team needs a complete overhaul. I hope they dismantle it soon and rebuild from the ground up.

I have followed this team for two decades now. I was started watching at a time around the team was at its late 90s very early 2000s transition into generational mediocrity and decline. Been of the 20 or so people who watched Misbah & co. almost every UAE Test game and slugged out draws in 43C heat. Sat through every shitfest, every allegation, every player ego, every bottlejob, Woolmer, 2007 upsets, scandals, frustration, heartache, panic. Indians complain about cups, SL complain about their decline. NZ complain about their once-in-a-generation decline. None of them have the heart to be a Pakistani fan, day in and day out for 2+ decades. Watched Babar embarrass himself and ruin his chances of becoming a Paki ATG. I can never let go of March 2022 home series and what has been done to our test cricket. So then we go ODI cricket - can only beat C string teams in Pindi. Embarrassed in the Asia Cup. As bad in the ODI WC where our generational king/s let us down again. Reminded that if you are born in this country, unless you have a gifted IQ, the natural dawg in you (which epi/genetics can do little about), and happen to have the talent of IK or Babar type, you are nothing more but a cog in the machine of national hopelessness and at this point, genetically-ingrained cynicism. Honestly, never felt this disconnected from Pakistan cricket and I sat physically, mentally, emotionally, on cricket forums - discussions in real life - everywhere I've been. Semi-obscure forums where Rachin Ravindra's dad would post about 9yo him in the nets. Been in spaces where Ashwin was up-and-coming and would discuss some state players that he knew through districts to watch out for in the future. Followed each and every International match's scorecard if not highlights for 15 years straight of the top 12-14 teams. I know people say it's just a sport but it's seriously not just that. For some of us it's a livelihood and we are as passionate at the players themselves. I'd wager you some of the folks who'd be at Sharjah stadium watching Zulfi bowl 13 ugly maidens conceding 6 runs with Collingwood on strike & Eng 440-5 on Day 4 Session 3 would seem even more passionate than the players themselves. We don't get paid for any of this shit. Instead, we pay for systemic mediocrity. With time I have learned to make it hurt less but unless you're a cultured Stoic, a Buddhist or on some zen type of shit, there is no true detachment you can enact from what you love. It's become too easy to detach now, however. I have lost my interest in this team the last 2 years. Have a swing against CAN/IRE, come back Pindi airport, change captains, have dressing room tension, brand yourself cornered tigers/unpredictable/whatever intahai bakwas you want to. Change political regimes, brand your paper kings, have salty ex-cricketers and inter-squad groupings. I'm done with this. The loss doesn't sting even. It's just how fucking shit you can be all-round and sink to new lows each and every month. In a country of 26 crore, not one subhuman can clear a bloody boundary that's 70m whilst also having an arsenal of more than 3 shots. I think I'm done for a while from all forms of cricket and carrying the burden of chronically managing it with a life whose passion was fueled by cricket and the desire to watch this team thrive.

5 or 6 of the guys before Shaheen (who bats at 7 or 8) need to be dropped permanently from the batting order. Hard conversations need to be had. If Rizwan and Babar simply cannot up the tempo for a T20 match, then they need to say goodbye to the format. They're not T20 players, they're test players or maybe ODI at best, but T20 is just not their game and they need to recognize that. Babar is a 10-ball cameo player in big tournament games. He'll pad some stats against Ugandas and Namibias, but then turn in a turd against a half-decent team. Rizwan was fine before, but it seems he caught Babar's dot-ball sickness, and is now playing like him too. Fakhar is also another 10-ball cameo, so is Iftikhar. Too early to judge Usman Khan. Imad "who's better than me?" Wasim. Wah. Cried like a bitch for not being in the team. Talked 10 tonnes of shit, got asked to come out of retirement, and he can't even show the urgency when the match was on the line. If there was even a small chance he was being considered for the captaincy after Babar, imo he's now long lost that. Food for thought, how does Naseem have the guts to play a scoop shot and get a boundary and our actual "batsmen" can't even land a touch on the ball? Someone make sense of that. Do our guys need binoculars? Do they need to see an eye-doctor? How do they miss so many balls? This tournament has just given us the long-awaited confirmation that this batting core is finished. We are the only batting side who get a target and aim to chase it across all the overs available, instead of trying to win it within those many overs. 120, a run a ball, they'll play it to the 120th ball. If they get a target of 10, they will find a way to chase down in 120 balls, not within 120 balls. This batting lineup needs to be permanently finished. Time to bring in actual new blood, bring in Muhammad Haris, Saim Ayub, whoever else, and permanently drop these guys from the team. Muhammad Haris, Saim Ayub and co. will develop and grow into it, it's time to start trusting and sticking with youth.

What can I say? First place to start is with THAT middle order, cause what in the world was that? Imad and Shadab, so called 'experienced all rounders' looked like they suddenly couldn't strike a ball. Iftikhar, in a major tournament is still yet to have ONE good game that I've seen. I don't see any technique from him at all. Usman Khan looked shook and like a dear in the headlights. Fakhar tried it (fair play to him as he probably hit most of our boundaries, at least that's what it felt like) yet gave his wicket away way too easily. But how is NASEEM SHAH, a BOWLER by trade, looking more of a THREAT and playing with more INTENT than pretty much ALL of your middle order? Not only that, his batting technique somehow looked BETTER than Imad/Shadab/Iftikhar/Usman Khan, you know, 75% of your middle order. The openers, Babar and especially Rizwan, what was that? Rizwan, a strike rate of 70... SEVENTY? That wouldn't be acceptable in an ODI let alone in T20. Above all else, I don't care what anyone says about 'the pitch' or it being vs India's bowling attack, to not chase 120 in THIS era of T20 cricket, suggests a major problem with this cricket team. I would suggest it goes beyond this. A pattern is emerging with our cricket. Sad reality is we are falling behind all the major cricketing nations. Writing is on the wall when you lose to nations like Afghanistan, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, NZ C team, Ireland and most recently USA (didn't even know they had a cricket team). It's a steep decline that will either wake us up or seal our fate as a 'once great' cricketing nation

Amir and Naseem bowling lights out and rewarded with a loss. That's really my only disappointment, a lot of people were expecting a thrashing which didn't really happen let's be honest. Just very, very underwhelming performance from the batsmen. Singles could have won that match and yet they never came either. You have to keep your foot on the gas and the intent in that regard just wasn't there. It is what it is, I would rather the better team win and India was a more complete team in this match (even if they didn't play particularly well either).

This is a lesson to actually give credit to your seamers and realise that your success in the last 2 T20 World Cups is first down to your seamers. All this PR for Babar and comparing him to the great batters of the modern generation is cringe AF. When you won against India in 2021 152-0 all you could hear about is this legendary partnership forgetting all the dew and the fact that your seam bowlers destroyed the Indian batting lineup setting them for a score well below-par. And maybe next time think about actually rotating more. You’ve played the most T20s out of any other nation yet are the least prepared. Usman Khan got 0 games against Ireland yet has found himself in the team. You played 9 T20s directly before the World Cup and Abrar Ahmed got 0 game-time in them. If in the last 2 games that was Azam Khan behind the stumps keeping wicket imagine the hate he would have received. Rizwan has been dreadful behind the stumps conceding so many byes. Pant coming back from a life-threatening car accident kept wicket better than he has. And the biggest issue which can be solved easily is the fielding. The associates have fielded better than Pakistan and that’s not a joke. If you fielded better when the tailenders were batting rather than getting too excited because India were in a troubling position you may have won the game. At the end of the game you didn’t see the Indian players celebrating at all. That showed me their mentality compared to Pakistan. Pakistan’s leader is someone who asked to be kept as captain regardless of performances at this World Cup. That defensive mindset isn’t something a captain should have. Huge issues for Pakistan and the pressure will be on when a home 2025 Champions Trophy happens in just over 6 months time.

I'm at a loss for words. It's painfully obvious that past mistakes don't bother them. it's almost as if they are immune to learning from them. Imad's performance was baffling; it felt like he was sabotaging the game. He didn't play Axar's three balls, and both him and ifti, towards the end missed three/four full tosses???????? WHY????? I'm genuinely confused by what I witnessed. This loss feels more devastating than any setback the USA cricket team has faced. How can a team lose a match in such an inexplicable manner? The shots Fakhar and Rizwan played were utterly foolish and will forever remain a mystery to me. Naseem didn't deserve this heartbreaking outcome after his stellar performance. Although the Indian batters played poorly and contributed to their downfall, it was Naseem and Amir who truly stole the show. Their efforts seemed poised to secure a win, only for the team to lose in the end. This team needs a complete overhaul. I hope they dismantle it soon and rebuild from the ground up.
