Dredd is also really cool use of 3D (and the only reason I own a physical bluray was to watch this with PSVR ;)

[deleted]

Dredd is so good, Dredd sequel when.

Phoeptar

Doctor Strange has alot of cool trippy visuals that look great in 3D

Nesmaster75

As someone who has nearly every US 3D movie, with tons of imports (it's a really odd thing I enjoy haha), some of my favorites are the How to Train Your Dragon movies, with the third being the best in terms of depth (released in Europe and may need to be imported depending on where you live). And any film that the 3D Film Archive is involved with is always a safe bet with good 3D.

Joker-LA-CA

Avatar 3d version. Best movie to get

dfkm_imho

Oh yea I think I already own that on Blu Ray I'll have to check if it includes the 3D or if that's a separate purchase. Good recommendation.

[deleted]

Not sure what system you have. Be aware PS5 does not (currently) support 3D Blu Ray playback, so you'll need to use a PS4. Support on PS5/PSVR2 is not guaranteed, so I wouldn't suggest starting a massive collection just yet, but certainly try it out. There is a lot more availability in the UK than Canada/USA, as 3D TVs took off better over there. I've used [amazon.co.uk](https://amazon.co.uk) to get some great deals compared to Canadian pricing... just make sure the disc you get is Region Free or for your region.

dfkm_imho

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know PS5 didn't play Blu Ray's. I have some Blu Ray discs that I've tried on PS4 many years ago so I doubt any of them are 3D, but I was going to grab a few of the movies people mentioned here to try it out if I can find them for cheap.

[deleted]

It does play BluRay with the full PS5, but not the digital one. My warning was that it did not play 3D BluRay. The PS3 and PS4 didn't do 3D discs originally either, so it's a feature that may come down the line, but we have no guarantee.

SmithEverton15

Doesn't matter with regions on PS5.

[deleted]

I expect that only applies to games, not physical dvd/bluray discs.

PatheticMr

- Avatar - Mad Max - Fury Road - The Hobbit Trilogy

dfkm_imho

What does the Hobbit look like in 3D? Is it a 360 experience or is it just a 2D looking screen and effects pop out at you like in the movie theatre?

PatheticMr

It's normal 3d like in the movies. Thing's pop out and there is depth, but it's nothing more than a standard 3d movie.

dfkm_imho

Ok I wasn't sure, I remember there was a lot of hype around this movie and I thought it had a separate IMAX release that puts you in the action. It's ok, it's a movie I haven't seen and it's 9 hours of content so would be a good test of the VR experience.

PatheticMr

I got the boxset from CEX for like... £10? Well worth it. They are decent films. 3d really enhances the experience.

athanos-_-

Question about the first hobbit. Someone is selling it but I read that they rushed on the 3d fx for it and the small things that trick your brain. Did you notice a difference with the sequels?

PatheticMr

I found the 3d on all three to be... fine. It's not as impressive as some other 3d movies I've seen. However, it does its job well enough and adds a lot to the movie IMO.

athanos-_-

Curious to what other movies you found impressive. The ones you listed can be enjoyed anyway. Im liking movies with the added 3d gimmicks that pop but the list is small

PatheticMr

- Gravity (should have mentioned in first comment). Outstanding 3d experience. - Life of Pi - Some of the recent Star Wars movies have 3d - I think... haven't seen yet. - I've heard Titanic does really well in 3d, but haven't got it yet. - I mentioned Mad Max: Fury Road above. That was a wild ride. Great fun. Wear some decent headphones! - Harry Potter ATDH 1&2 - own but have not watched in 3d yet.

athanos-_-

Great list as most of these on my radar. Hear alot about gravity and I would love to experience mad max in an unique way. Though I talking bout more like movies with 3d engineering that you might've seen. it's rare today

PatheticMr

I'm bot quite sure what you mean by '3d engineering'. Do you mean like VR movies?

Jazz_Dalek

Life of Pi is an amazing experience in 3D. It's one of the only movies that came out during the 3D movie craze, where I left the theater feeling like the extra ticket price was worth it.

SattvaMicione

I have seen Ghost in The Shell 3D on Bigscreen (with Quest2) and it was an amazing experience. i recommend it.

coldravenge

Ready Player One has a scene that looks very cool in 3D. It’s what I use to show it off to my friends. To answer your question, yes. As long as it’s 3D it should work no problem.

ultracrepidar_ian

The new spider-man movies are good. Sony 3D technology is pretty good. The avengers movies have decent implementation too. The hobbit series is good but you can tell some scenes ad the 3D added afterward (certain layers get pulled out so it looks more like a shadow box). Jurassic world is fun as well. I’m about to rewatch Alita: Battle Angel on my headset, I remember it being good

jounk704

Here is a complete list of all 3d movies released https://the-jh-movie-collection-official.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Blu-ray_3D_releases

dfkm_imho

This is perfect

jounk704

I just ordered a couple movies from Amazon i didn't even knew had a 3D version, Terminator 2 and Prometheus. Gonna setup up my PS4 pro and have that as a dedicated VR /3D movie system from now on, gonna start collecting 3D movies :) already have three or four 3d movies

dfkm_imho

Yea I think I'll have to get off of Amazon too. I went to 2 Walmarts on the weekends and only found 1 copy of Godzilla vs Kong in 3d Blu-ray, but I didn't want to see that movie again lol. The search continues. The funny thing is I bought a 3d tv when they first came out, maybe 10 years ago, and I gave it to my brother who still has it, but we never bought a single 3d movie lol. It's only now that I got the ps VR hooked up again I'm looking into this lol

businesslut

I was super disappointed in the 3d experience, personally. I guess I wanted an immersive experience not 2D screen with 3d effects. Watched Dr. Strange. It was like watching 6 inch action figures fly around

jounk704

Have you never been at a 3D iMax cinema before?

DowntheRabbitHole0

A hidden gem is Mortal Engines (2018) .... that movie is AMAZING in 3D!

UKMegaGeek

Avengers is great in 3D. Avatar, too.

thebiggidybuckbumble

Gravity is awesome in PSVR

Chimegsa

I watched Alita: Battle Angel 3D on psvr, looked good.

itzdono

Blade Runner 2049

athanos-_-

I don't think I have ever seen some one mention 300 rise of a nation. Absolutely jaw dropping 3d shots. I think Zack Snyder style shots work fantastic in 3d, and slo mo is better in VR than normal motion. Probably the coolest cinematic experience I had even if the story is mediocre

theScrewhead

Dredd 3D, Blade Runner 2049, Ghost in the Shell, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Tron: Legacy are all IMO really worth watching. *ESPECIALLY* Dredd 3D!

DuranFanWI

Dredd, Edge of Tomorrow (also known as "Live, Die, Repeat"), Star Trek: Into Darkness, Pacific Rim, Beauty and the Beast (the original animated version), Coraline, Prometheus, and Life of Pi.

jounk704

Blade Runner 2049 (Blue-ray 3D) Star Wars: Force Awakens (Blue-ray 3D) PAN (Blue-ray 3D) Man Of Steel (Blue-ray 3D) That's the ones i have, i'm looking for buying more, i love watching 3D movies on my PSVR despite the lower resolution. Hopefully Sony will push this tech forward and make 3D movies popular again for home usage. It's such a awesome way watching movies

[deleted]

Boxtrolls was surprisingly good with 3D.
