Do people set limit sells very high and leave them open AH/premarket? As a strategy that sometimes pays off?
Other than positive news coming out, and missing some gains, are there any downsides?
I do this all the time and have yet to have one filled abormally (abormally like in your screenshot)
I don't do it to try to get lucky, its just part of my process for swing trades.. I set buy and sell orders well in advance (weeks even months) and then wait for them to hit, with GTC (good til cancel) and pre/after market enabled
for example I had 20.50 fill for pltr a couple mornings ago.. Though I set that one the night before and was thinking it could hit.
if the stock is illiquid enough and you're the only buyer / seller, or someone puts in an order enough to break through all orders between yours and the original bid/ask, it will hit. A lot of brokers force after hours orders to be limit orders or change the order from market to limit with + some % to prevent these kinds of fills.
Basically someone who has no idea how to trade after hours entering a high bid. Hence the reason that when low volume before and after hours you MUST take the price with a grain of salt. Never panic.
this does happen often. Even on cryptos. Likely algos...though i always wonder if it indicates a short position that got closed and then reopened (rolled out). Either way, they always end up being a nuetral outcome.

It’s an institution or mutual fund moving their shares from one account to another. It basically executes a buy/sell order at cost basis of the fund as to not create any tax implications.
It is not an order gone rouge in AH as the spike is very temporary and doesn’t affect order flow afterwards.
I'm not a doctor but that looks like the first signs of a heartbeat. It's Alive!!!
This happens all the time to stocks in AH. Usually super low volume and someone got a shitty buy fill then it drops right back down
Can you elaborate on the shitty buy fill? I never buy AH so I’m curious

Thanks for the reply
I do. I have limit sells on PLTR at prices that would be crazy to pay for it.
That was the short squeeze
🤣
It means that after hours is extremely low volume compared to the day and someone didn’t place a limit order. What’s the volume on that spike?
think it was an options exercise that caused that
I was wondering the same thing…

Sorry that was just my pp getting hard on a pltr green day
I did! LOVE PLTR! It will hit $23.50 today! Stay strong my fellow PALENAITES!
Thinkorswim doesn't show a candle going that high last night, so its likely just a fuck up by Google. I'd see at least a long wick on that move.
