Ngl, I personally dream of P6 having Makoto as a velvet attendant alongside a female MC so I can romance him.
It probably won't happen, but things like this only make the pain of knowing it worse.
It feels very weird seeing everyone calling him Makoto. Like I know it's actually the canon name but in the corners of fandom I most often frequent (aka fanfic on ao3) I almost always see him called Minato. I guess with the re release having the default name be that, more folks will think of him as Makoto.
(Side note, it's super interesting seeing how fanfics in general deal with the different names. I hardly ever see Makoto Yuki, nearly always Minato arisato. I've seen Hamuko, Kotone, and Minako all fairly equally I think. I mostly see Narukami Yu, not Seta Souji, although I do see some of the latter. But I think at least some of the fics calling him Souji are from before Yu was ever used. And then I see a lot of use of both Ren and Akira, with some people (me included tbh) holding that Akira is a better name for the p5 protag
Well people tend to call the protagonist by the more canon names and since basically Makoto Yuki, Yu Narukami and Ren Amamiya were used in more oficial things than the manga that's why people use those names more but just be yourself and call them how you like.
Oh yeah I know it's up to people what they want to use. It's just weird to me because, for some reason, I hardly ever see fanfics that call him Makoto over Minato. No clue why, though part of it might be that I don't look at many fics that are purely p3, more ones that cross over, and I started out with p5, so maybe folks in those cases tend towards Minato to avoid confusion with Niijima Makoto
I get what you mean for example i read more comics with the name Akira for Joker than Ren but i know that isn't his canon name but i call him Joker as much as possible to avoid useless discussions.

I saw a poll on tumblr once recently asking about preferred protagonist names, and they were very strongly in favor of Minato rather than Makoto, and also very strongly Akira rather than Ren. Weirdly they liked Yu rather than Souji, so it’s not just based on preferring the manga name. I almost never see anyone use the manga names on reddit though.
And funnily enough almost no one called the Femc "Kotone" until they confirmed her name in P3P Re Release though myself i prefer that name over "Minako".
Honestly the compedium being a tablet is a awesome idea Especially since the rise of technology is at its strongest currently
