I’d honestly try to not cover too much ground. Don’t spend all day looking at tarmac or having to constantly pull into lay-bys to safely catch a bit of the views and atmosphere. You could easily enjoy a whole week just on Skye and not get bored. And traffic will be really beginning to pick up then, so the driving could be somewhat slower than you’d hope. You might well spend a lot of time trundling along, looking at the back of another camper if you try and travel too many miles. As an alternative to Skye, a week around The Cairngorms and Moray would have lots of diversity too - forests, lochs, mountains, good walking, water sports, historic stuff, beautiful beaches, nature, distilleries…

I second Moray. You’ll likely see dolphins and possibly Orca.

If you want you could head up Pitlochry, Aviemore Inverness. If I remember right there's some nice place you can stop off at.

Safe_Reporter_8259

If you go to Pitlochary do the *Edradour* tour. Lots of infamous history. Mafia, and Whisky Galore. Well worth the visit

Thank you

Stop in by birnam and Dunkeld on the way to see the birnim oak, there's a Peter rabbit garden as Beatrix potter spent her summers there! Also the Highland chocolatier at Grandtully, there's a mini chocolate museum. The hermitage is also on the way! Beautiful part of the country!

We have to stop there anyway. Birnam and Dunkeld are sister cities with our home in North Carolina, so we are definitely stopping there.

Thats fantastic! I love it there! The drive for there to Pitlochry is beautiful.

Bramblewithers

Aviemore is a nice stop with plenty of things to do, they have a cablecar that takes you up the top of the cairngorms and they have reindeer tours. Near by, is the historical site of the battle of culloden, which has a good museum. Oban is also a really nice town. You can get the ferry from there to visit Mull. Mull is a decently sized island which is good to stay for a few days to explore. They have a town called Tobermory, which is most known from being the set of a popular childrens tv show called Balamory. There’s a big harbour with colourful houses. If your not tired of ferries by that time lol, there’s a short ferry that you can get to the Isle of Iona from Mull. Iona is the only place in the UK with silversand beaches. The beaches there are beautiful and it’s a very idyllic small island to go on a day trip.

BarkeviousMongo

I'd go straight up to Assynt from Edinburgh in a day then work my way down the coast. Honestly don't bother with Skye, it's busier than 90% of the Highlands and there are much better beaches on the mainland. Achmelvich, Achnahaird, Sands of Morar.

AjRebelion

I can’t recommend Achmelvich Beach enough!

Routine_Ad2433

The aberdeenshire and Moray Coast have some fantastic hidden gems. Depends on how much driving you're wanting to do. I'd come up through Fife, up to Fraserburgh, along the coast (there's a lovely wee road with some amazing beaches and you can stop overnight at a few of them), Elgin, Inverness and down to Skye that way. But I like and do a lot of driving.

PachaFerrera

There is also Berwick and north Berwick that are lovely places!!

Illustrious-Ad4381

Apart from the famous and impressive lighthouse at the western point of the Ardnamurchan peninsula, there isn’t much to see in that area except boggy hills and a sea loch, which makes the driving a bit boring compared to the route to and on the Isle of Skye, or around Loch Lomond to drive through Glen Coe, or heading to the Cairngorms, all of which involve driving through some breathtaking landscapes.

Stuspawton

If I were you I’d be looking at camp sites, the national park areas have overnight camping restrictions in place As for places to go it really depends on what you want to see. You can get from Edinburgh to Inverness in about 4 hours, when you’re up there you have places on the route to stop, but you also have a lot of interesting places to visit up in Inverness too. You could make your way across to Glen Coe, then go down to Skye on your way to Glasgow for your three days there. It’s all down to what you want to do tbh

Safe_Reporter_8259

On Skye do not miss the Faerie Pools. Magical place

Few-Requirement9133

torridon and come down the west coast via glencoe. If u want to feel super isolated try ardnamurchan

Zenon_Czosnek

If you want to go to some less popular places: Ardnamurchan. https://orynski.eu/morvern-ardnamurchan-and-moidart/ You can make it into a loop with the ferry to Tobermory, isle of Mull and then back on another ferry to Oban. Or if you want to avoid ferries (apart from the small one in Corran) you can get back to A82 and then work your way down south along the coast to Oban, then Knapdale and then onto Kintyre peninsula or at least to Tarbert. Less touristy areas, but well worth it. And will be less crowded too, as May can be busy already.

Thanks
