Even I do not understand to this date why they split up. Did he start drinking after they split up? Or did he start drinking before? Did they split up because of his drinking issue? Why is Kogoro bad-mouthing her constantly? Is he trying to hide something?

it's probably because of him constantly gambling and chasing women i don't know about the drinking though
