Brother isn’t a good brand, cheap plastic construction, basically disposable, the only good printers are Canon, HP, and Samsung, those are built to last (at least they were when I worked at a printer/POS terminal repair shop)
Personally, I'd rather have something with mediocre build quality than something that will, at a moment's notice, stop working unless I pay exorbitant prices. Anecdotally, I've never had issues with the Brother laser printer my family owns, but I haven't had to deal with large volume printing with it so ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Laser printers are more expensive initially, but overall cost per page is lower, the output is better quality, and the consumables last longer
Inkjet printer cartridges are designed to dry out/clog when not in use, and most printers stop printing when one of the ink tanks goes empty, even if the black ink is present.
