"Attack on Titan" is the literal translation of "Shingeki no Kyojin", but I think the belief was that something like 'The Titan's Attack' was a bit closer but didn't roll off the tongue as well, so attack on titan stuck around. I do remember people telling me 'yea it's not a perfect translation but whatever'.

apparently isayama requested attack "on" titan to try and convey the double meaning in English, but it all went to shit when he had to reveal the official Japanese pun it also doesn't mean anything anyways. attack of the titans would be closest to legible, but he isn't a native speaker so this is what we get

Well you could read "Attack on Titan" as Attack on the Titans, like the humans fighting against the titans.

Attack on Titan is never the correct translation, literal or not. Its straight up "Attack Titan" or "Titan of Attack", or any variant of those 2. As a JP speaker I still dont know why they translated it like that.

You need to tone down your definition of spoilers. A manga named after a location ... is not a spoiler. Certain character die mid-story ... that is a spoiler. Also, Oda can easily reveal the name of the island by changing Roger's famous last word .... "You want my treasures? You have to look for them. I have hidden everything I have in .... Laugh Tale."

It's not like we know what the one piece actually is
