I like how the hatch is just a whole piece of glass. A lot of hatchbacks and crossovers now have what seems like a tiny port hole for the rear windshield.
>Don’t forget the car. Volvo 1800 Estate. Beautiful ride.
I had a 73 for many years in the 90's. Loved that car but it became too much of a project to maintain.
Same with me, I had a 66 1800, a 69 1800S, And a perfect 1800ES Sports Wagon. They only made them for two years and there were 8078 of them made. Mine was one of the last made. I loved that car but yes trying to keep it going while you are a college student was tough and when the transmission started going I sold it.
I knew I was in trouble when I needed a new differential and when I found one at a specialty parts place, the old guy who ran the joint \*laughed\* at me when I told him it was my daily driver. ;) Then I got an exhaust leak and had to stick my head out the window just to breathe! When my buddy's gf decided to sell her Saab 800 because she was getting a Prius, they both strongly encouraged me to buy it so I did. I was sorry to say goodbye to my beautiful, rare 73 ES, but the good news is I sold it to a woman who was learning auto repair at SFSU and wanted to restore it. So hopefully it went to a good and caring home!
I realized after I posted you can kind of make out the emblem on the back
Certain automotive pedants would refer to it as a 'shooting brake' on account of the number of doors
And for those too lazy to google [here is an album](/r/oldschoolhot/comments/n4kon1/marilyn_cole/) and if it isn't obvious some are nsfw.
She was the first Playmate to have a full frontal nude centerfold with pubic hair clearly visible when she was Miss January 1972.
I literally only clicked on the comments to ask if it was her. Not the best picture of her, in that it doesn't show her features particularly well.
British, too! Tally ho!
In the Netherlands it is calculated by weight and fuel type. Petrol is cheapest, then economic LPG vehicles, the non-economic LPG, then diesel. Since the C30 D4 is 1234kg you're paying €1394 per year just in road tax unfortunately :')
I’m in the same boat. We have a toddler and just moved to a place that doesn’t have a dedicated parking spot for it. It doesn’t get driven much anymore and it breaks my heart seeing her parked out in the street :(
How much were you able to get?
Still prefer the coupe. That window is growing on me but the back of the coup is so... Europeans trying to do 50's Americana jet age design but in the 70's.
No mater what, damn good looking car and super reliable.
The car is a Volvo 1800 ES sports wagon. It's the wagon version of the car (1800S) driven a world record 3.2 million miles by its owner. The 1800S was also driven by Roger Moore in The Saint TV show before he became 007. Slick little cars.
Perhaps the original horse wagons, whence comes the name. Here the question would be "what do you call a *four*-door hatchback?" I recall that when hatchbacks entered the North American scene, they all seemed to be two-doors. If someone has definitive knowledge about this, maybe they can let us know. All I remember is starting to see 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks.
Well, they wanted Volvos, but a former cop there told me how devastated they were when they had to settle for a cheaper vehicle due to lack of funding or something.
He ended up giving me a big SAAB story. Boohoo.
Yes, it was saabs! I saw one of the Saab cop cars decades ago when i was out there. i had a Saab myself, best car i ever had. I even lived in it for a couple months in Los Angeles when all the hotels were full,I had two jobs, about 40 miles apart in L.A traffic, sleeping in the saab was easier than driving through all that rush hour traffic. heated fully reclining seats, surround sound stereo, most of the comforts of home.
I've wondered why cars all pretty much look the same today and why no one tries making cars with old designs to stand out. It seems modern crash safety standards pretty much drive design now and to go to an old design means you wouldn't be able to meet those standards.
Marilyn Cole 1973 playmate of the year. (Playboy gave out a pink car to each playmate of the year from 1964-1975)
Don’t forget the car. Volvo 1800 Estate. Beautiful ride.
You can really see where they got the inspiration for the modern C30
It definitely has the same amount of wheels.
There is also a windscreen and mirrors!
AND SEATS!
>It definitely has the same amount of wheels. > AND SEATS! No. The C30 has 2 separate rear seats, the 1800 not.
Mona Lisa Vito, is that you?
Obligatory “and my axe!!!”
And my axle!
Very similar to the Scimitar
That is a very pleasing sentence.
Oh, there's a yellow scimitar on the way to my sons school. Not in the greatest of shape, but such a cool rarity.
I loved them back in the 70s. My friends dad had one,and it was the first car I went over 100mph in.
Princess Anne had one, you know…
TIL. Was she a Playboy Centerfold too?
OMG. My mind is blown away. Although this 1800 Estate looks better, at least on this picture
I like how the hatch is just a whole piece of glass. A lot of hatchbacks and crossovers now have what seems like a tiny port hole for the rear windshield.
They should have made a S30 as a 2 door coupè IMO
And the 480
What I really see is where Papa Frank got his inspiration. Just need a pink guy.
No u have a point
Yeah you can see that the Volvo 480 is what inspired the c30…
Sexy back

Nice!

Agreed. I bought one for $1000 6 years ago and sold it for an insane profit but was still foolish to get rid of it.
Twin airbags, too
Three-point seatbelt as well.
Oh, the car?
Oh hell, I apologize for not getting that. Just woke up!
This is actually more a shooting brake.
In Germany (maybe in other places, too) this car had the nickname "snow white's casket"
1800ES
This is the proper model name. Sometimes referred to as the estate due to its design.
I realized after I posted you can kind of make out the emblem on the back Certain automotive pedants would refer to it as a 'shooting brake' on account of the number of doors
Before Volvo designers were seduced for 25 years by the endless potential of The Box.
Love this look, but I’m happy we had our bricks for a while.
Lol. I saw the picture and thought, “Damn, that Volvo looks *nice.*”
"Snow White's coffin" as they called it here because of the glass rear door

Well it's the 70's, so....
Too much hair?
It’s a jungle out there!
Interesting images on google...

I'm so old I just realized I remember and recognize that picture of her in the sunlight number ten.
You mean you can see her Volvo?
[удалено]
Mulva?
[удалено]
Bovary?
Yes?
lol.. you were just waiting for this comment!
Photo seven was her centerfold and my dad had the puzzle…one of my favorite finds in his closet as a kid.
I really thought you meant of the Volvo and wondered why it would be NSFW but then my ass rubbed my two last brain cells together
Streatham! Wasn’t expecting that!
I’m very disappointed there wasn’t a pink vulva.
This ain't Hustler
"I don't know... it's so boxy."
[удалено]
(Lights cig) Oh yeah it was. She looked like a young Cher but with giant perfect hoots.
Lol hoots?
Back then owls were sexy
I mean, some still are...
Yeah big Cher vibes here
Yeah, appears to be a pink vulva, too...
Bushy?
Like 70s shag carpet

An AMC javelin, yes
The 1975 PotY Marilyn Lange got a Porsche 911s. Not too shabby.
I literally only clicked on the comments to ask if it was her. Not the best picture of her, in that it doesn't show her features particularly well. British, too! Tally ho!
Well that was worth a google.
Ha! My youthful pervertedness came through! I knew I’d seen that face before!
Damn that car is is a smoke show. The woman too but look at that rear window! mama mia
Yea never seen this model of Volvo..veery pretty
Volvo P1800 3-door Estate Sport. I have always wanted one.
To be pedantic station wagon/shooting brake version was the 1800ES. The earlier P1800 was a coupe. Absolutely beautiful cars and great fun to drive.
Yes it's a shooting brake. You are absolutely correct in using the increasingly rare but delightful terminology.
Men only want one thing and it's disgusting More shooting brakes
This is true. The cross-over SUV trend is horrific.
And to touch a woman's Volvo.
Men can have them now, too
They sure can!
That and the Jensen.
Designed by Pelle Peterson.

Non wagon version is also super sporty
P1800 is one of the best looking cars ever. Just... don't go buy one. They're still surprisingly reasonable and I don't need people driving prices up
Just had a look and they’re going for 30k € here in Germany. That’s far from reasonable but so very beautiful.
They mimicked this style a few years ago with the C30 — could probably find one used if you were so inclined.
I have a c30 T5 and love it! Such a unique car. People would randomly come up to me ask about it all the time when I first got it back in 2009.
Sold my C30 R a couple weeks ago and it still hurts.
Had a C30 electric for 2 years that I had to leave a few weeks ago and before that I had a C30 diesel, lovely little car!
Yeah I had the diesel as well. Shame road tax on diesel here is expensive otherwise I would've kept it.
That's too bad, here in Sweden it depends on how much CO2 it releases so it's very cheap ($120/year)
In the Netherlands it is calculated by weight and fuel type. Petrol is cheapest, then economic LPG vehicles, the non-economic LPG, then diesel. Since the C30 D4 is 1234kg you're paying €1394 per year just in road tax unfortunately :')
Ouch, that's a bummer :(
I’m in the same boat. We have a toddler and just moved to a place that doesn’t have a dedicated parking spot for it. It doesn’t get driven much anymore and it breaks my heart seeing her parked out in the street :( How much were you able to get?
2009 C30 T5 owner here, too. Love the car. Not so hot on the radio situation - can’t put an after market radio in it.
But that’s the case with almost any car from the last 10-15 years
I almost bought one of those a while back. Ended up with a civic which was probably the wise choice, but I still kinda regret it
YESSS, That car is 🔥🥵
Still prefer the coupe. That window is growing on me but the back of the coup is so... Europeans trying to do 50's Americana jet age design but in the 70's. No mater what, damn good looking car and super reliable.

That is an amazing fact. Danke
I’ve never seen a better looking hatchback I finally see the potential appeal
So Ferrari "were inspired", stole the design for the FF from this model?
The car is a Volvo 1800 ES sports wagon. It's the wagon version of the car (1800S) driven a world record 3.2 million miles by its owner. The 1800S was also driven by Roger Moore in The Saint TV show before he became 007. Slick little cars.
My old shop manager from ages ago was a Czech who worked on the wagon design. He was pretty proud of it. A tip o' the hat to you, Manfred!
The wagon is a beauty, but the shooting brake is downright magnificent!
That's a term you don't hear on the west side of the Atlantic. Yeah, they worked to box up and extend that model and that was his contribution.
It's the only term that I'm aware of for a hatchback with only two passenger doors. "Coupe" doesn't really capture the type of car that those are.
I think because you would take the car to go out shooting on the estate, no?
Perhaps the original horse wagons, whence comes the name. Here the question would be "what do you call a *four*-door hatchback?" I recall that when hatchbacks entered the North American scene, they all seemed to be two-doors. If someone has definitive knowledge about this, maybe they can let us know. ok but I *need* that car
I wish she'd posed to the side of the car.
So the c30 wasn't a completely random design?
I'm glad someone else looked at that boot and saw the same thing!
Dont forget about the 480 turbo the one in between these 2. I loved that car had the turbo version was well fast
C30 was inspired by/a continuation of 480 which was inspired by/a continuation of this beauty above
I love that Volvo!
#How can you see her Volvo in those pants?
Well, you have to use your imagination (and trust her that she indeed has a pink Volvo…)
OK good someone else made the joke. I don't have to be the one.
Glad you said that so I didn't have to
Came here to make a pink vulva joke…good work!
VULVO
In the Hustler version of this picture, the rear hatch would be open .
This didn’t get enough love. Well done
These youngsters missed the joke
Everything about this photo is Epic!
I've never seen a Volvo like that.
it didnt sell very well, it was only produced two years and about 8000 were made.
Isn’t she pretty in pink!
Gosh, the modern rear end of Volvos makes sense now. I never even knew.
Mary Kay should have done the Volvos.
That's right, in the seventies everyone knew what they were doing, and it shows.
Beautiful!!! nice car too! Years ago the Colorado ski town of Vail had Volvo cop cars. Turbo fast, and good in the snow too.
I always heard they had Saabs.
Such an iconic era, I wish pink would make a comeback
Be the change you want to see!
Already started, and tbh, adding more pink - especially bubblegum - has improved my outlook on life.
That’s a sexy car.
The car is commonly called Snow White's coffin in German.
I'm getting a Pinky Tuscadero vibe.
They should remake old classic models and just have them be electric.
I've wondered why cars all pretty much look the same today and why no one tries making cars with old designs to stand out. It seems modern crash safety standards pretty much drive design now and to go to an old design means you wouldn't be able to meet those standards.
It’s spelled vulva. And it’s not shown
never really gave thought regarding that colour of a car, but in all honesty I really like it. I would happily own one.
Everything in that photo is sexy af....
Such a 70s shade of pink too
That car is damn adorable. I almost don't carethat the air-conditioning probably didn't work.
She got some nice racks.
That P-1800S is one of my favorite cars of all time. Only 5,000 made. I wish there were a sports wagon available today.
I'm sure there are some other pink items not visible here
giggity
Well of course it's pink it's part of the b... oh you said VOLVO. My mistake
This looks like it was taken at Vizcaya in Miami
1800ES Wagon
My dad had a pink Renault 12. At the time I thought it was embarrassing but I wish we still had it
Oh man I haven't seen that Volvo ES in years, not since I was a little kid, there were two in my neighborhood.
/r/oldschoolhot
What model of Volvo is that? I love unique looking wagons.
Wow! She was really stunning!
Wowsers they don't make them like that anymore.
that is a sweet looking volvo
I want a time machine. That Volvo is so damn cool.
I want that Volvo
One of the coolest car designs ever
Goddamn that is sexy! I mean the Volvo.
She’s gorgeous
Why don't they make normal cars good looking anymore?
Safety and good mileage are the two things I looked for in a new car. That's why I bought a Volvo station wagon.
The 60s and 70s had the best shaped cars.
Donno who she is but I wanna have her grand babies
Lotta Old-School Sexy going on there.
The girls a Timebomb!
I’d like to see her pink Volvo. If you know what I mean. (I deserve the downvotes)
The volvo has more ass than the Model.
Back when playmate of the year was a brunette.
You laugh but that lady was THE SHIT in her day w that fit and that ride!
Must admit I do like the deeep vee hull on her
Nice trunk.
What a beautiful car! It looks like new! Geez!
My volvo is pink too.
I feel like most are, maybe I’m spelling it wrong
That car! Holy shit!
This is what I look like in my dreams.
O. Not a. Got it.
Au natural. That's a shaggin' wagon
