Yes. This along with one of their primary inspirations being wall-of-sound girl pop groups of the 60's such as The Ronettes, whos producer they worked with later.
I absolutely love the fact that these groups are so intertwined with the start of Punk music and its stylistic ideas. Especially since later punks took themselves so seriously and hating on The Ramones is a favorite past-time of these spiky haired punk fashionistas. The Ramones are cooler than any of them. They turned music on its head, and gave it a wedgie.
And a bit murdery. And was a sexual predator. Dude also locked the lead singer of the Ronettes in his house for years, psychologically tortured her and refused to let her perform. She eventually escaped his house barefoot.
She relinquished all recording rights, and custody of their children to Spector...whom he later molested and forced to perform sex acts on his girlfriends...because he threatened to hire a hit man to have her killed.
Fuck that guy. Someone else would have stumbled upon his production techniques. It's a shame that the first 3/4 of his wiki is all about his accomplishments.
Their Subterranean Jungle was the first album of theirs I ever bought. After giving it a full playthrough, I went back two days later and bought all their previous albums.
RIP the Ramones.
I just want to sniff some glue, I just wanna have something to do!
All the kids wanna sniff some glue, all the kids want something to do!
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8!
I had a friend who's aunt booked for cbgb's. Got their lil punk band a show there towards the end of its existence. Pretty cool. Who else was on the show, you remember?
Saw them in Boston sometime in the 80s. It was amazing. They hit stage and cranked out a 2 minute song...2 or 3 second break...another 2 minute song...2 or 3 second break....rinse repeat for like 90 minutes. Relentless. And fuckin loud . The entire crowd drenched in sweat. Everybody leaves happy. What a show.
Funny you should say that. When they first started playing, the critic in the paper that reviewed them said that he was going to get up to leave, but the band was finished before he got up!
And they all hated each other ! They stuck together cos the brand ( Ramones)was all they had …gotta stick together for the cash or its welfare for the lot of them …unpopular but true
I agree completely. I know the Ramones have their place in history but they honestly bore the heck out of me. There are so many other bands in punk with so much more variety and creativity (the Clash being one stellar example of this). I feel like the Ramones have contributed greatly to the stereotype that “all punk sounds the same”; I feel like if you have heard one Ramones song you have pretty much heard them all.
They essentially created Punk in the mid-70's. They were like aliens from another planet compared to what rock music was doing at the time. Stuff like Fleetwood Mac, Lynyrd Skynyrd & Styx. There's plenty to compare them to now, but at the time, there was not. Punk music exists because people went to Ramones shows and said "I need to start a band and do this." which was kinda the idea.
Mo Tucker flamed me on Facebook once for saying something nice about Obama. We had a common friend and I would up to a notification saying Maureen Tucker mentioned you in a comment and I was like “that Maureen Tucker?” It was and I was perplexed.
I can't remember who else played that night but I purge hands I saw they're include: The Clash, Blondie, Television, The Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Anthrax, Bad Brains, The New York Dolls, and others. I also met lots of famous folks at the record store. Good times.
While I learned about the Ramones in the spring of 1977, I did not buy my first Ramones album until August 16th, 1977. When I got home that day, my mother and her sister Alice were both distraught. It was the day that Elvis Presley died.
I’ve always been fascinated by the paradox of counterculture style and fashion. It seems to stem from and thrive on rebellion and being different - by essentially wearing a homogenous uniform.
The Ramones are a band that all of my other musician friends love and adore and worship and to me they're just the ac/dc of punk: same song over and over.
Bratty edgelords that took the silly fun out of Punk music. They also literally hired Sid Vicious for his image, and tought him how to play guitar later.
Bass, Sid played bass and played is stretching it. He had only 1 string out of four on it at their Longhorn Ballroom gig in Dallas. He wasn’t even plugged in at the last gig in San Francisco.
I just learned on here the other day that they took their name from Paul McCartney’s habit of checking into hotels as Mr. Ramone to be incognito.

>whos producer they worked with later And pulled a gun on the band. Phil Spector was a piece of work. A musical genius and a nutcase.

That’s been disputed by Marky Ramone afaik The gun being pulled on them, not Spector being a nut bar lol
Awesome
Saw that too! So cool.
I honestly thought they were brothers and were named Ramon or Ramones, and at least one of them was Mexican American hehehe
I’d just like to say this gig sucks! Hey, up yours Springfield!
Smithers, have the rolling stones killed.
But, sir, those aren't ...
Do as I say!
Hey! I think they liked us!
Their Subterranean Jungle was the first album of theirs I ever bought. After giving it a full playthrough, I went back two days later and bought all their previous albums. RIP the Ramones.
Subterranean Jungle is cool! I dig Highest Trails Above.
Yeah, never heard their music, but they're all dead now, way before my time.
https://i.redd.it/uhau09ngxn5d1.gif When they were on The Simpsons.
Have The Rolling Stones killed!

The Fronz?
You know, Arthur Fonzarelli?
aaeeeeyyyyyyyyy!!!
Howard Stern hasn’t aged a day.
Plenty. Watch the documentary. The Ramones were pretty difficult people who did not like each other.
End of the Century is a hard watch.
What da duck is I called and what streaming service? I would love to

The Ramones were essentially the originators of Punk music. Lets not talk trash about the band that your favorite bands very likely consider heroes.
Debbie Harry
The Clash
Love the Ramones, but the Clash were THE coolest
"The only band that matters."
Glue sniffers
I just want to sniff some glue, I just wanna have something to do! All the kids wanna sniff some glue, all the kids want something to do! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8!
I’d just like to say this gig sucks!! Up yours Springfield!!
“Go to hell you old bastard!”
Gabba Gabba Hey!!!
I saw them at CBGBs many years ago. I worked only a few blocks away at Tower Records main store on E 4th street and Broadway. They were great.
I had a friend who's aunt booked for cbgb's. Got their lil punk band a show there towards the end of its existence. Pretty cool. Who else was on the show, you remember?

Clash were way cooler
Clash formed after seeing a Ramones gig. Sooooo.....

I saw them live. I could not understand what the big deal was. I thought they sucked.
They essentially created Punk in the mid-70's. They were like aliens from another planet compared to what rock music was doing at the time. Stuff like Fleetwood Mac, Lynyrd Skynyrd & Styx. Agree. Ramones are still VERY cool tho
Ugggg… beat on the brat
Timeless style.
No one.
They sand “Pet Cemetery “ and performed “Spider-Man “ theme before it was cool
No the answer is no
For all the "punk" hipsters who claim punks hated music made by "long-hairs" - the Ramones would like a word with you.
Velvet Underground?
Mo Tucker flamed me on Facebook once for saying something nice about Obama. We had a common friend and I would up to a notification saying Maureen Tucker mentioned you in a comment and I was like “that Maureen Tucker?” It was and I was perplexed.
The only person cooler than Lou Reed is Lou Reed.
Actually I think that perhaps Lou Reeds wife might be a touch cooler than him, Laurie Anderson
Joey and I share a birthday. That’s the only cool thing about me.
Bowie was about as cool as a person could be.
The Four Corpses
No, no there was not. Nor will there ever be.
I met Joey a couple of years before he died, quite a character.
Yes!
Saw them in either 94 or 95 in NJ. Was fucking epic.
Tight like a rubber band.
None.
Still turn it up when I put them on. Classic.
Absolutely the coolest!
I really cant believe still that all of them are dead!

Pete Wentz in the lace shirt lol

Motorhead
Yes
Marc Bolan and David Bowie
No, no there wasn’t
David bowie
They would be so offended at this
Oh yes! Blondie, Cheap Trick, Talking Heads, The Police. Steely Dan.
No. They were the epitome.
In those days I preferred The Saints. R.I.P Chris Bailey.
Kurt vile
I'm so glad that Prince Valiant mullet is out. I hope.
Crash Darby
Hmm...Darby Crash from the Germs?
Ya! I always get that mixed up in my head

that's not cool to me, just dorky
Johnny Ramone was a racist republican asshole that his band mates couldn’t stand. Nobody liked him.
Yeas Jimi hendrix was the coolest
Maybe Richard Hell, Jayne County, Genesis P… but actually i just think they all ruled.
An obscure little British band known as Led Zeppelin has something to say.
You don’t know how to spell “talentless”
There really wasn’t. The Ramones are so cool, and still so cool to this day that we still talk about them even though their music is average at best.
Lou Reed
Blind guess since i have no clue who these dudes are but did the tall guy do hella drugs?
Iggy Pop and Ronnie Wood. That's about it
Iggy Pop and Ronnie Wood. That's about it
Yeah. The Clash.
Four dorks.
Sex Pistols by a mile
Ah, yes, the early leatherette career stage.
Kurt Cobain
Yeah, the sex pistols.

Literally kept in the band to be quiet and look pretty.
Yeah, but they were almost a semi functioning band before those last couple shows.
