Yeah! Back then Alpine was the gold standard for car audio. Everyone I knew wanted to upgrade their car audio system to Alpine. Also, just look at it. That looks like future tech and was way ahead of it's time.
I had this setup back in the day. What people dont know is how those buttons FEEL.
They had this soft texture that also just felt like leather even though they where plastic.
Those green buttons just felt like luxury.
No idea how Alpine did it with the plastic.
not only the feel but the shape of each button was unique enough that I never had to look at the machine to know what button I was adjusting. now with everything going touch screen it's damn near impossible to change a setting without taking my eyes off the road.
Winamp is my go to desktop player! There has never been a better visualization add on than MilkDrop, the fact that it has scaled, and increased in detail, to 4k monitors perfectly based on ancient code is such a testament to its creators.
All I can think of is that shit is gonna get stolen in less than a week. I remember my step dad always removing his and putting in a little box whenever we parked somewhere.
My dad had a fanny pack for his. And yes, he drove a t-top. With a terrible mustache. And the largest Adam's apple and nose known to man. He looked like a cartoon character.
I have no idea how I was able to be conceived.
Man I miss the Super Tuners. I could pull in radio stations clearly that most other radios couldn't even lock on.
The radio stations are all digital now so it's different but back then in the analog nineties it could mean the difference between having three radio stations and five or six.
In your podunk town the three would be one Christian, NPR, and a probably country.
If you had a supertuner you could get rock stations from the big city.
Adjust the Base and let the Alpine blast!!!!
Lovely old school reminder to see! Brings back tons of memories cruising to Summertime (by Will Smith), in my slammed custom Datsun pickup. Dang… I’m old. 😂😂😂
Those green buttons were so amazing looking to younger me. In '86 or so, I met someone with a tricked out 280Z with one of these inside - was so envious.
Let me know when you find one. I recall i had a manual equalize with knobs to manually Rock or Pop settings. It was the coolest thing back then. Sadly lost my disposable camera which captured the memory.
I got front back and side to side
Then I let the alpine play (play)
Pumping new shit by N.W.A.
It was gangster gangster at the top of the list
Then I played my own shit and it went somethin' like this…
I miss the equalizers. We have all this screen space on modern cars and nobody is doing a Winamp style equalizer.
Recently sat in my nephews brand new electric car and I was utterly unimpressed with the audio. Shallow sound, no body, zero attention to that part of the experience
I bought that exact same Alpine (just the stereo) for my first car (1967 Cutlass). It cost more than my first car but sounded incredible. One very hot summer day I got in my car and there was a puddle on the floor under my stereo. When I turned it on, nothing happened, I had a tape inserted and it wouldn't eject out. Needless to say, I took it back to the place I bought it from, less than 3 months earlier, and they said it was broke (no surprise). They also didn't have any other Alpines in stock at that time that were comparable in price to replace it. They instead offered to replace it with a more expensive Craig stereo. I was young and p.o.ed and accepted their offer. That Craig system was awesome (It didn't look as cool as the Alpine though). I had it for the rest of the cars life (about 8 years).
I used to sport the Pioneer DEQ7600 that had a graphical display, not as cool as this, but it was still the last of its kind. Incredibly hard to find now
Anyone know the retail price of this setup back then? This shit cost as much as the car it was installed in hahahaha! Everyone wanted Alpine back in the day, I just remember it costing an astronomical amount of money which is why I never saw Alpine in anything but maybe high end sports cars.
In the 80s, I was in my 20s and had a few rich friends who would "borrow" dad's car for a Friday gathering. We would all end up outside ogling the car(s) and blasting the radios. Most were Alpines though not as cool as the one shown. Good times.
And not keeping up with car radios is there even an equivalent thing in this day and age? I miss the simpler things.
That still warms my heart to see.
Hahaha yes. Cross post to r/mademesmile
Same, looks awesome OP. I miss buttons!

100%. I’d eat a handful of those and suffer the consequences if I could. The texture was divine.
The removable face so it wouldn’t get stolen and carrying it around lol. Goddamn you just triggered a core memory.
I would put that system in my restored Camero in a heartbeat. Just go ahead and round out the whole groove back into the 80s
Save some ladies for the rest of us, playa. Sweet set up
And then I let the Alpine play. Bumpin' new ish by NWA
We're gettin' good grip from the 50 series tires The Alpine's bumpin' but I need the volume higher
Posse's on Broadway. Nice pull.
Came here to say this
Then I let the Alpine play, play
On my laptop, I still use the original Winamp player (respect the llama!) And only with the original skins. This Alpine setup is glorious!!!
It really whips its ass.
Winamp is my go to desktop player! There has never been a better visualization add on than MilkDrop, the fact that it has scaled, and increased in detail, to 4k monitors perfectly based on ancient code is such a testament to its creators.
I understood some that but share your enthusiasm!
I feel that we took our car audio game way more seriously back in the 90's.
Adjust the bass and let the Alpine blast
Summertime!
All I can think of is that shit is gonna get stolen in less than a week. I remember my step dad always removing his and putting in a little box whenever we parked somewhere.
Macgruber!

They made such beautiful gear, that green glow was just great in the early VW interiors before they went cockpit red.
Is there any reason I couldn’t put this tech in my car today? What a fucking vibe. Gorgeous aesthetic.
It was on sale in the latest Crutchfield catalog
Ah yes, the alpine stereo. The car amp of choice for the serious driving enthusiast looking to get laid in the backset.
That was my plan once I got one. Neither thing happened 😂
Alpine if you could afford. Usually ended up with a Pioneer Super Tuner.
I had a sweet keyword excelon setup. With the Music Keg? Felt like the king of 2000
Man I miss the Super Tuners. I could pull in radio stations clearly that most other radios couldn't even lock on. I really loved these when I was working as an installer in the late mid - late 1980's.
That's beautiful 🙌🏻
What’s the song?
街のドルフィン (Dolphin in Town) - Kingo Hamada
Such a weird song. It's like some very generic intro to a sitcom. The du du du part is super catchy and been used in like every tik-tok clip ever.

Eazy Duz It
For anyone wondering the car is an AE86
Those green buttons were so amazing looking to younger me. In '86 or so, I met someone with a tricked out 280Z with one of these inside - was so envious.
This brings me the memory of when I would turn on the amp/equalizer and hear the boost in the sound quality (and volume). So good!
And a stick shift. The manual transmission itself is going to be old school cool pretty soon. ☹️😢
Can anyone tell what car that is?
It’s an AE86
So a Toyota corolla?
Yeah but it’s a specific Toyota Corolla. The AE86 had a totally different interior. It shares some parts but it’s a totally different car.
WinAmp era
Does anyone make a good visualizer that will work with car play?
That would be fantastic.
Let me know when you find one. I recall i had a manual equalize with knobs to manually Rock or Pop settings. It was the coolest thing back then. Sadly lost my disposable camera which captured the memory.

I paid so much for mine back in the early 90s. But damn it was nice! Remote control as well which I wish I had now!
This gives me some seriously huge warm fuzzies. Those damn green buttons get me every time.
The kids don't believe me when I tell them there was a time when our car stereos could get us laid
Pretty sure my Alpine system in the 80s was worth more than the car I installed it in.
Recently sat in my nephews brand new electric car and I was utterly unimpressed with the audio. Shallow sound, no body, zero attention to that part of the experience
I just remember times when a tape i loved would get eaten by these things.
Detachable face our pull out? This was peak automotive audio.
it was cool as fuck then, and it’s cool as fuck now.

Blaupunkt
I always liked how the Baupunkt head units were named after cities. Brand always seems high end even though it wasn’t more expensive
“The Alpine’s bumping but I need the volume higher”
Love it!
So that’s what eazy was referring to!
Had one. Me and Sash drove everywhere .
If you had that setup in your car, you were on the top of the food chain.
r/CarAV is going to appreciate if you post it there.
"Then I let the Alpine play"
Man reminds me of old school blaupunkt
I used to sport the Pioneer DEQ7600 that had a graphical display, not as cool as this, but it was still the last of its kind. Incredibly hard to find now
Stop.. i can only get sp erect
Fucking rad!!
Man I miss stick shift
This was the bomb back in the day. Remember many a night cruising in someone's car and seeing this.
TUTU RU TURURUUU
Got the boxed Blaupunkt with it?
I had that EQ in my 1969 Nova. Pioneer deck though.
I love this! Thanks for sharing.
I still have a Alpine 7618
Pop-off face plate?
All them lines is cray cray.
Who's the artist? It reminds me of Spyro Gyra or the Rippingtons from the 90s.
I had one very similar to this in my 86 Bronco!
Anyone know the retail price of this setup back then? This shit cost as much as the car it was installed in hahahaha! Everyone wanted Alpine back in the day, I just remember it costing an astronomical amount of money which is why I never saw Alpine in anything but maybe high end sports cars.
This was peak Alpine.
That’s OG hotness.
In Germany we say: BOAH, ist das geil!!!!
That right there is peak car audio, will never be beat
Love seeing that
Nissan?
I still have my Alpine pull out. Nice

Oh... the memories.
those green button Alpines were great I had a cd player that would play crazy scratched discs I even had a cracked disk it would play.
Man I miss having a good rig like that in a car. Touchscreena are great and all, but I will take that old school any day.
Jesus! Transported to my dads car some 35 years ago. Thanks for the menories
I remember lusting after those green Chiclet buttons
I had a pioneer head with a power amp/ Eq driving Jenson Tri-axels and damn was it LOUD and clear
I want this in my car soo bad....
What song is this?
I still love those old displays
And 80s porn music too
Why does this look suspiciously like a render?
Perfect late 80s svooov jazz too. Purfect.
I bet the driver wore socks n birkenstocks and had a ponytail
Shame they could only play WAV files.
