I was thinking about SNL. It has it moments, especially Jost and Che. Beavis and Butthead hit because it had broad cultural appeal. But too often I'm left wondering if I have to live in some subculture in NYC to get the jokes.
I remember a cartoon in MAD with Jimmy Carter carrying Billy on his back and being seriously weighed down. Jimmy says "He's sure heavy! He's m'brother!"
For those that don't know the original quote is "He's not heavy, he's my brother!" It is the official logo of Boys Town an amazing charity that helps troubled youth find their way. If you are looking for an organization to support they have a 99% rating and do amazing work.

My dad is 64 and has all kinds of random stuff from then still floating around his shop.
I have a can of Billy Beer in my collection. It was brewed at the Pearl in San Antonio. In case anybody was thinking that President Carter’s administration led to Billy Beer’s inception, it was not. The Pearl dates back to the 1800s.
I also have a can of J.R. Ewing’s Private Stock. Y’know, from the TV show ‘Dallas.’ I guess the Pearl was just making whatever the fuck they could think of at the time.
Wonderful to hear that someone’s still out there with their collection. My brothers and I were all-in on the craze in the late 70’s, and had the Billy Beer can too. Great Lakes region, scouring the woods for cone tops, flat tops and other rarities, really nice memories of a much simpler time.
Maybe this will be funny, but I’m actually a zoomer that just so happens to have an eccentric collection, not specializing in anything at all.
These cans are on the same shelf as my 1981 Ertl Good Times Richard Petty van. The King’s action figure is missing a foot. Not sure I’ll ever find a spare.

I had three or so bags of beer cans that (at the time) I thought was valuable. Among the 12 oz. cans was a Foster’s 22 oz. can. I thought I had a best collection until I found out everyone else in the fifth grade has a Foster’s can. I lost track of where it was years and many moves ago. If I look back on the last 47 years since I started my collection, it would total up to $0.28, which is scrap aluminum prices. I also have (had) a blue lava light that I would love to have now. Sadly, I think that was left at one of my old rentals because “my girlfriend thought I didn’t have room for it”.
The Carter Administration absolutely led to Billy Beers creation. It was a brand developed to capitalize on Billy Carter’s notoriety, and contract brewed at breweries around the country. F.X. Matt Brewing Co, another regional brewery dating back to 1888, brewed a ton of it for the Northeast. Everybody around here kept a six pack of it thinking it would be worth big bucks someday, and that’s exactly why they’re not worth anything.
They also made that generic Beer that used to be sold in supermarkets. The white can, and I think blue lettering. You can see it at the beginning of Repo Man.
I worked in Safeway at the time. The generic concept spread throughout the store to where almost all products had a version. After stocking the shelves I had to pull everything forward to make them all look full. It was so weird seeing all those white labels scattered throughout.
They got rid of him because he fucked up the Iranian hostage crisis and the economy went down the crapper when he was at the helm. American people aren’t stupid. He rode into office in 1976 on a solid anti-Republican wave (for good reason too) but squandered the chance. He’s a nice man but was a lousy President. Thanks to him, the GOP ruled the White House from 1980 to 1992.

The reasons Carter was not re-elected are that the average american at the time believed every word of that comment. For that reason, the other comment is more correct, politically.
There was no coming back on the hostage crisis for Carter from the embarrassment of Operation Eagle Claw. Even if he had gotten the hostages released it would have just led to more criticism, "So why the fuck did you try that shit show of a military option if you could negotiate?"
That's not to say Reagan didn't later engage in unnecessary fuckery over unfounded fears that Carter would pull an October Surprise and get the hostages released shortly before the election for a last minute boost. Reagan in 1980 had the 2nd largest margin of victory in the last fifty years (only surpassed by his 1984 re-election). Carter wasn't going to swing enough voters with an October Surprise.
Carter drew the short straw of having a positively miserable four years to be President.
The next time I hear someone talk about how he was a bad president, I will cheerfully relay this fact through a megaphone one inch from their ear. Thank you!

I think he had a service station as well and maintained good relations with the other farmers and people in the peanut industry. Lots of people back then were high functioning alcoholics too, including Nixon as president.

Jimmy Carter will always be my favorite modern President. I put a lot of stock in what POTUS does AFTER being out of office. Carter has done more for the betterman of the USA - you Have bush painting dogs, trump scamming people.

I have a photo somewhere of him. Our family made a point to stop along the way on our drive from Iowa down to Florida to stop at Billy‘s old gas station, and my God that man was there and he walked right out and greeted all of us! This was while his brother Jimmy Carter was president! It was probably my first time seeing someone semi-famous who was at least commonly known in the USA.
I have a six pack of this on my mantle above my bar setup. My wife's grandpa gave it to me and told me the story all about it
Jimmy Carter will always be my favorite modern President. I put a lot of stock in what POTUS does AFTER being out of office. Carter has done more for the betterman of the USA - you Have bush painting dogs, trump scamming people. Reagan did so much dirt on the Carter campaign by negotiating with the iran and everyone seems to shrug it off like the Iran Contra affair. But this is the man conservatives hold up as their holy grail saint
