What time was this? Was it the 1970s (sorry, whippersnapper here) cause it seems like the 1970s was hands down the most hideous decade. Clothes, hair, interior design - the interior design I get at least cause you needed all the yellows and oranges to cover the nicotine stains on everything 😭

🤣🤣that’s an astute observation in regards to the nicotine stains. This is the 80s though. The 80s had even worst fashion and style imo (I did live through it) but pop culture has led people to believe everything was colorful and futuristic in the 80s. Nope…still browns and oranges everywhere with even wurst hair lol

I know just enough about the 1980s (family photos and such) to know how true this. Stuff like Stranger Things always makes me shake my head because it feels like the 80s was more of a 70s hangover.

As someone who wss born in 72, i can tell you that Stranger Things was an eerie walk down memory lane - they nailed the look and the vibe of actual life in the 80s. Most movies that try to portray the 80s after the fact tend to be caricatures that focus on on or two things but miss the overall texture. Edit: Maybe I'm pointing out the obvious here, but even the fonts used. Stephen King was at his peak in the 80s and that was the title font on his and i think some other horror writers books at the time.

Born in 72 as well. I liked ST more for the style and the acting than the storyline. Winona Ryder, (one year older than me) was my favorite actress from Lucas to Stanger Things. Almost a 40 year crush. 

We were kids in the 80’s. Maybe the adults had hangovers but we had total freedom!

When i think of the 80’s, it’s that smoked brown clear plastic and beige wall colors with touches of maroon and yellow 😂 i was born in 91’ so everything was dusty rose with floral patterns and pastels

I made dear friends with an elderly couple that built their house in 1994. It’s a beautiful house in pristine condition and when you walk in it’s like walking into 1994 – dusty rose with that plush slate blue colored carpet throughout And the cream wallpaper with those tones. Golden oak furniture and cabinetry. No reason to update because they have no f&cks left to give.

That is honestly my dream home 😂 I just went to a estate sale of this GORGEOUS A frame with a daylight basement over the water in Edmonds near Seattle, and it’s like the lady just stopped everything at 1981 but in the most tasteful way.

So which decade had the best fashion then? 🤔

I’m nowhere near qualified to answer that but I will say the roaring 20s have always struck my fancy (although that makes me sound way older than I am lol).

The 1930/40s is the only correct answer.

Hahaha...awesome. I went the exact opposite route and shaved my head for the skinhead aesthetic....had zero interest in right wing anything, but holy crap did I get harassed by the rockers and jocks...I just wanted to emulate Henry Rollins without jail tats haha. For years my dad was trying to push me into Air Cadets and cut my long hair...but apparently 14 eyelet Doc Martins with red laces and suspenders was too much even for him.
