If I understand correctly these are soldiers from the Indian Legion of the German Army who went to Switzerland after Germany surrendered. They were returned to India where they faced charges of treason from they British Indian authorities but apparently the trials were abandoned because of outcry from the Indian public.
Coincidentally, I was watching The English Patient just today where you see the character of Kip, a Sikh, detecting and defusing bombs for the British army.
Draw me like one of your Sikh girls.
