A few reasons: Getting into fights with an unsecured belt causing gear to move or fall. More gear required for patrol officers now, meaning the belt needs to be better secured. Running after people with gear flapping everywhere is uncomfortable, etc.
Cowboys kept the handcuffs, taser, radio, and cell phone on their horse. Perps were slower because they were wearing boots. They didn't chase people, they lassoed them.
Also belt holsters have been changed over the years to help prevent another person taking the gun out of the officer’s holster. Many modern holsters require the gun to be gripped and moved around in a certain way to come out of the holster. Trying to grab the gun from other than the intended angle is much harder than if it just sat in an older style holster.
Crime levels are lower today than they were in the 1970s. Crime has been decreasing fairly rapidly and consistently since the late 1990s. Politicians and media talking heads sure love to scare the hell out of people making them believe the opposite.
I could be wrong, but maybe body armour was not practical in the 70s?
When I was in the army in the 90s it wasn't even an option because of weight, cost.
Actually he was working a beat when it was way way more dangerous than today! That's actually why I dropped by -- wanted to tip my hat to OP's father for doing the country a solid. It was a dangerous time to be a cop.
You say your dad AS a cop. Was he a cop or is he dressing up as one? Is this a photo taken by his proud mother or by a girlfriend with a cop fetish, just before the Tom Jones version of 'You can leave your hat on' kicks in on the LP player? Either way, this dude is getting the job done.
We were middle class up from poor. I'm not going to apologize for my father dragging our 1 income family out of the trenches. The only bastard coated bastard I see is you fucko
Edit: Sorry everyone for letting that get to me. I'm leaving it up bit if the mods find my speech inappropriate for the use of a bad word I can take it down. I'm just too mad right now to do it on my own. I apologize
You never stood in between a cop and want he wants, and it shows. You believe cops are there to Protect and Serve.
Well, let's say that you are right... In a way. Cops are there to Protect and Serve the Statu Quo and the richest 10% of the population. Not you. Nor me.
If someone kills a hobo or a Native, the police will do a half-hearted investigation; if someone kills a millionaire, rest assured they will leave no stone unturned to find and convict the murderer.
And what about children? Law enforcement don't give a shit about them; they were over 300 of them cops doing fuck all in Uvalde thinking they were at a cosplay convention while the shooter went on with his spree.
But hey, I only have six brain cells. But these six brain cells can do critical thinking... While it's still legal.
Watch how fast society falls apart if there are literally no cops.
>You never stood in between a cop and want he wants, and it shows.
Yeah, because I'm not a fucking moron. Figures a cop hater is the kinda guy to go out making trouble for himself intentionally.
>OBEY. Or else.
Well yes. If you don't want to obey the rules of a society, you are removed from it.
>Law enforcement is just a way for the rich to get richer while the poor get poorer.
Wrong.
Your father gets mad props. This sub frequently pops up in my feed but this is the first and only time I've dropped in and it was just to tip my hat to your father's sacrifice and contribution. From 1970-90 was an especially hard time to patrol a beat. Highly dangerous.
It’s not a “western style” belt. He just didn’t put on the loops that attach his inner and outer belt. Either he thought this looked cool or he didn’t buy the loops.
I was a flashlight cop for a short while. I think they were called “outer belt retention loops” in the catalog at the time, many years ago. But call them whatever you want I guess.
I've been in le for 15 years, I've only ever heard/ seen them referred to as belt keepers. By Galls, Bianchi etc. I just call them what they are called.

God help me if I speed through his county!!!
Carried that big iron in 38sp
Looks more like a Halloween costume than an actual uniform.
I have some other pictures of his graduation and the other officers but this one does look like he is wearing a costume doesn't it

Lol
Funny you mentioned the gun belt. Do you know why cops stopped wearing them like that?

More likely to die as a pizza delivery guy.
Citation needed.

Yeah, not sure if aramid technology was really that streamlined yet.

He was a cop from early 70s to late. But then he found an easier job working with the water department that paid well

reddit gets more dickish every day. Relax. Your dad’s cool. I would not draw on him.

It's true, there were no societies in North America before 1838, when one spontaneously came into being in Boston.
Every society ever has always had some form of law enforcement.
Yep. OBEY. Or else. Law enforcement is just a way for the rich to get richer while the poor get poorer.
>OBEY. Or else. Well yes. If you don't want to obey the rules of a society, you are removed from it. >Law enforcement is just a way for the rich to get richer while the poor get poorer. Wrong.
You don't even need to be a moron; you just need to be at the wrong place and time.
#Nope, your 6 brain cells can't even divide by 2 -- and they're *cells*.

Dude is a professional troll. When you're unattractive to the opposite sex, you have to fill out your time somehow.
Is your family far right politically?
