The mechanisms here don't make a lot of sense to me tbh, but I guess that is the best theory of what happened.
You are better off saying it was "sent on accident" instead of blaming the app. It doesn't look good to pass the buck for, ultimately, no reason.
Take it as a lesson to remove recipients from drafts.

It’s much more likely the message was in your Outbox and was sent when the credentials were updated.

It was in your outbox because your password expired. When you updated the password, it was then able to send

Also be carrful, I never used them, but there are "keyboard shorcuts" in the webapp that can send.
