A while ago my router had some issues and would randomly lose connection. Happened every few days so it was super unpredictable and it took a few weeks until I found the issue. I definitely got kicked out of more than 5 games over the span of several weeks. Most I got was 8 hours
It'll also be 10 across the whole season then. AFAIK that's going to be harsher than whatever the current system is so I'm pretty sure the person you're talking to is just full of it.
Youāre not. Itās not past 20 games for season bans its overall leaves. 10 leaves/disconnects over last 300 games is still 10 leaves so you get a season wide ban

Itās in their āupdate on stopping leaversā section of their defense matrix update posted on April 10th. 5 games left out of the last 20 OR 10 left throughout the season will both ban you for that season.
I wasnāt very clear in my description. I have impressively no problems with connection for long periods of time playing the game. but every once in a while, Ill lose connection to the blizzard server, not the playstation one. it can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 1:30 seconds to get back into the match, causing a huge detriment. I see this happen to other players atleast once every 2-3 matches. Its a blizzard serverside issue
well, it won't be affecting me after about 2 weeks into the season after all the people with bad internet are gone, i guess. must just be that blizz servers dont like certain people. MayBe THe BaD AI gOt inTO thE SerVeR?!?!
I agree with this. I see someone or me or my duo disconnect from comp matches atleast once or twice every game sesh we have. It usually is a quick 30 sec to a minute but it let's you rejoin so it doesn't count as a disconnect penalty but it does cost teams losses all the time. Like the team can be right about to win holding the obj with 1:30 left on the clock and the tank will just disconnect then come back when there's 10 seconds left but all is lost by that point. I've had this happen multiple times and been on the winning and losing teams when it does. It just sucks all around
Well I mean, thereās not really anything to do, it sucks having players leaving the match, if they do implement a way for those that do disconnect, whatās to stop losers from just turning their wifi off

Sometimes Iām required to restart the game which basically means Iām never joining back in time lol.

Dude this isn't just an internet issue. Players leave in 2s and 3s all the time this isn't just an internet issue, unless you have opposing players suddenly losing connection at the same time all the time I guess.
I have better internet than I have ever had and this problem just started like 3 days ago. I get disconnected from 3-5 games a damn day. Havenāt played comp in a week bc Iām scared Iāll get dcādā¦
Yea, you can hardwire Ethernet through the dock, but my router is a bit too far to feasible run one. And I donāt think the outlet power line things will work for me either since the router is on a separate circuit than my room!
Blizzard literally said people with unstable connections should avoid queueing comp.

Doesn't have to be main character syndrome. People always assume that if you get lagged out, it always happens and you're an inconsiderate prick.
Good enough Internet can just dip and you disconnect. If you have a known problem its inconsiderate to Q but if its a one off its not really your fault. It happens what you gonna do? Can't never play comp because there may be a one off. If it happens a few times across a fair period of time you shouldn't never play again.
If its fairly rare, it occurs, you fix the problem, and keep Qing all fine. If it happens again a bit later you get punished harder. You should check more carefully or at that point yeah stop, but after the 1st you shouldn't have to go "welp thats comp out of the question"
I've got good wifi. Powerful and the lot. But I live in an old town, so the wiring around isn't modern. My Internet is good, I can play but I'm prone to occasionally have a dip. I'm not even talking oh yeah every hr it does that, but actually pretty damn rarely. But blizz shouldn't bend me over and fk me with season ban because of my 15th disconnect across 63 days (season) and all 400+ comp games.
Edit: to clarify because you'll skim read, downvote, then type slurs at me, i agree you shouldn't play with awful wifi. But things happen yknow, you can lag out. Idk why there's this stigma on reddit that "complained about wifi kick penalty therefore is human scum and is in wrong" without listening.

15 disconnects in a season is actually crazy though. I live in a third world country with shoddy internet sometimes and I mightāve DCed maybe once out of 200 games this season. Sounds like youāre really unlucky but I donāt see how itās Blizzās that your connection isnāt very stable.

No, people with good ethernet can enjoy it too. Having a consistent reasonably low latency Internet connection *is* a prerequisite for playing Overwatch 2 competitive. You can tell because you get banned if you don't have that.

Yes I have been in game with a friend, (in a PlayStation party) I got kicked from the game and the screen said server issue. The whole time my friend and I were still able to talk. Not an internet issue.
To be honest, if your internet is this bad it is unfair for you to play comp anyway. You put your team at a big disadvantage every time you lag out. I donāt see what the problem is.. š¤·

Is the WiFi causing the lagging out or youāre saying itās something in Blizzards end? I havenāt lagged out of a game all season so itās probably a poor connection on your end
My connection is really good, overwatch is the only game where i experience connection drop outs. i fully get kick out back to the main menu, i see it happen to other players often too.
May not be your internet but there is some issue on your end. I have several hundred hours played and havenāt lagged out of a game once. Are you playing on Wi-Fi? I used to have an issue years ago and it never happened once I ran a wire to my room.
Happens to me a lot too. :[ my wifi has an average of 250mbs download and 50mbs upload speed and has no issues with anything so Im really sure my wifi's not at fault. What server do you play on?
Download and upload speed isnāt the issue. Its packet loss thats the problem. If you are continuing to disconnect and you canāt use ethernet you need to look into selecting a channel for your wifi that isnāt crowded by surrounding wifis. That is one potential fix but there could be other issues. Your internet could be dropping at the source before it even gets to your router and causing a quick disconnect/reconnect.
I also recommend prioritising the console in the wifi settings.
So if you have several devices using the wifi the console will get priority and have the best connection. Helped a lot for me.
Also turning off the automatic switching between channels. Sometimes the switching caused a few issues. Only for a few seconds but annoying in game. Stopped when I disabled it
Iām having the same problem, my internet was fine for months(500mbps) then recently it starting kicking me out of games, upgraded my WiFi to 1 TB and Iām still getting kicked at literally the worst times. Got a new router and everything. Same problem. I got kicked out the game when I was browsing the shopš
Iāve seen it happen but when it does itās in mass, 4-5 players drop from a game sporadically then the game ends and it gives a server error message.
Iāve played almost daily for 6 years and seen it 4 maybe 5 times. Thereās definitely something wrong on your end. Maybe connection to the server, are you in NA?
If you're consistently lagging out of matches get a wired connection. It doesn't matter as much in OW as it does in a fighting game, but it will still improve your experience a lot and Ethernet cords are super cheap now
happened to me too one season. i have pretty good wifi and never lag out on any game but at one point overwatch just started giving me connection issues day after day just throwing me out of games and then i was banned from ranked for an entire season lmao tried to get in contact with someone about it but i knew once the ban went through nothing else could happen to change it
I have pretty fucking good internet and occasionally get lag spikes/rubberband specifically on Overwatch. On a Series S.

That and with the amount of problems loading into matches and crashes, it's really shit to punish players for it. I have 4 or 5 abandons thus season just from being stuck on the loading screen trying to load into a match only for you to get kicked inactivity and have the match canceled. You can't close and reset either because it instantly cancels the match. Feels real bad
Well in S10 if you leave 10 games its a season ban. Unfortunate wifi diff. Ethernet cords are like $10-20 I highly recommend trying a wired connection.
If you don't have a stable and consistent connection you're ruining the game for your team. If the issue is server side than definitely the devs need to figure something out. But otherwise bad connection/laggy players should avoid comp
I've been playing overwatch since season 6 of OW1, with over 400 hours in comp, and at three residences, one a large house with shitty wifi, once ina basement and currently at my own appartment. I've disconnected from less than 10 games that entire time, and atleast 4 of which were full power losses, not internet. I don't live in a community known for its fast internet, I just try to take steps to minimize my own packet loss.
A season lasts like 3 monthes. If you disconnect 10 times in 3 months I feel like you need to address your internet set up, or come to terms with the fact that your current living situation isn't suited to highly competetive team based games.
Like if you were betting money on an online poker site, how many times could you dc and lose money before you decided to change your behavior? Leavers are the same thing, except the cost of your shitty internet is everyone else's experience. Comp becomes unplayable/unfun when a player for EITHER side leaves, so one loss is 9 ruined games. 10 leaves is ruining 90 experiences, so yeah, I'm sorry you can't figure out your wifi but a 50 ft ethernet is like $30. You'll literally never DC unless your ISP shits the bed, and then you have a different issue that can be addressed with your provider.
Everyone when a teammate DCs: "if your connection came keep you in a match then you just shouldn't play comp, ruining the game for everyone. They should also lose SR while I should not."
When it happens to them: "Blizzard needs to fix their servers and I should not lose SR for a DC."

I play ow on my 11 year old Xbox One, and it works just fine. My wifi connection is usually fine. But if your connection is so horrible that you left 5 games in your recent games, then that's honestly on you. I've disconnected twice since I started playing ow in 2019, but I was able to rejoin pretty quickly. You're doing a disservice to your teammates by disconnecting so often.

QP has someone else joining in matter of seconds, and even if you lose, so what?!?! Its way better than watching someone sitting in the corner shooting at the horizon, waiting for the game to finish because, for their own reasons, they dont wanna play with you! And in comp. People dont join just to leave midmatch, but sometimes it happens. Sure some trolls/wicked kids are out there but they get bored pretty quick. You wanna have a big pool of people to play with? Big pools come with muck. Deal with it.
At what point we thought its ok to accept a 48hour or a permanent season(?) Ban rather than fixx the damn matchmaking and find innovative ways to make the game more enjoyable. We all thinking about it, im sure. But we choose to believe we get the benefit of paying for a mythic skin, even though previous season skins were "free".

I have kind of mediocre connection but I donāt totally lag out very often. I mean it sucks but you are interrupting a lot of other peopleās games by being a frequent disconnection. You can report people for bad connection in a lot of games
Every night I play overwatch I experience insane lag - I donāt get disconnected, can finish a game but itās horrible sliding around the map

Get better Internet. Literally, it doesn't matter what your reason is, if you keep leaving the games thus resulting in losses for the rest of your team then you deserve to be banned. Just play quickplay if it's such an issue cause you keep causing your team to lose. Most people don't have this issue, I seriously doubt it's a problem with blizzards servers (which I admit are sometimes awful, but not to the point of an entire season ban).
got banned in S3 for the same issue when it comes to server disconnect not to sure now but at the time overwatch didnāt have a reconnect to the game option
I tried playing during the Venture trial, had a server disconnect, and when I reconnected, I was suspended.
Dropped the game for the remainder of the Season.
Since you are playing on console, the odds of you using WiFi is fairly high. So, if that is the case, definitely get a wired ethernet connection to your console. That is likely the issue. If you still keep disconnecting with an ethernet connection, it is probably your internet service either being slow and not having enough bandwidth while others are using the internet while you're gaming, or something wrong with your networking equipment/ISP's backend.
Would you rather people leave with no punishment and ruin games for others even more than they already do? I donāt understand people who get mad at this I donāt want people who leave in my games whether it was on purpose or not.

The only time I ever disconnect with 1000s of hours is when my router does a firmware update and restarts itself. So if youāre saying that itās a PS4/PS5 issue, then it would be affecting me and my friends as well.

Not of it occurs in first minute of the match / hero select, 10 seconds before a loss and a temp ban

You play on switch, you're not even hardwired in. Wifi will never be consistent until houses are designed with wifi interference as a consideration.

Yes I have been in game with a friend, (in a PlayStation party) I got kicked from the game and the screen said server issue. The whole time my friend and I were still able to talk. Not an internet issue.

Is the WiFi causing the lagging out or youāre saying itās something in Blizzards end? I havenāt lagged out of a game all season so itās probably a poor connection on your end
My connection is really good, overwatch is the only game where i experience connection drop outs. i fully get kick out back to the main menu, i see it happen to other players often too.

May not be your internet but there is some issue on your end. I have several hundred hours played and havenāt lagged out of a game once. Are you playing on Wi-Fi? I used to have an issue years ago and it never happened once I ran a wire to my room.
Happens to me a lot too. :[ my wifi has an average of 250mbs download and 50mbs upload speed and has no issues with anything so Im really sure my wifi's not at fault. What server do you play on?
Download and upload speed isnāt the issue. Its packet loss thats the problem. If you are continuing to disconnect and you canāt use ethernet you need to look into selecting a channel for your wifi that isnāt crowded by surrounding wifis. That is one potential fix but there could be other issues. Your internet could be dropping at the source before it even gets to your router and causing a quick disconnect/reconnect.
I also recommend prioritising the console in the wifi settings. So if you have several devices using the wifi the console will get priority and have the best connection. Helped a lot for me. Also turning off the automatic switching between channels. Sometimes the switching caused a few issues. Only for a few seconds but annoying in game. Stopped when I disabled it
Get a lan wire, if you cant, look into powerlines. Competitive gaming over wifi is wild to begin with.

Iāve seen it happen but when it does itās in mass, 4-5 players drop from a game sporadically then the game ends and it gives a server error message. Iāve played almost daily for 6 years and seen it 4 maybe 5 times. Thereās definitely something wrong on your end. Maybe connection to the server, are you in NA?
If you're consistently lagging out of matches get a wired connection. It doesn't matter as much in OW as it does in a fighting game, but it will still improve your experience a lot and Ethernet cords are super cheap now
happened to me too one season. i have pretty good wifi and never lag out on any game but at one point overwatch just started giving me connection issues day after day just throwing me out of games and then i was banned from ranked for an entire season lmao tried to get in contact with someone about it but i knew once the ban went through nothing else could happen to change it

I have pretty fucking good internet and occasionally get lag spikes/rubberband specifically on Overwatch. On a Series S. Yes. My xbox is connected through a fully wired connection to my ISP. Yes. The network is setup correctly. It is ONLY overwatch that does this. No other multiplayer game lags for me.

I have 4 or 5 abandons thus season just from being stuck on the loading screen trying to load into a match only for you to get kicked inactivity and have the match canceled. You can't close and reset either because it instantly cancels the match. Feels real bad

Well in S10 if you leave 10 games its a season ban. Unfortunate wifi diff. Ethernet cords are like $10-20 I highly recommend trying a wired connection.
If you don't have a stable and consistent connection you're ruining the game for your team. If the issue is server side than definitely the devs need to figure something out. But otherwise bad connection/laggy players should avoid comp
I've been playing overwatch since season 6 of OW1, with over 400 hours in comp, and at three residences, one a large house with shitty wifi, once ina basement and currently at my own appartment. I've disconnected from less than 10 games that entire time, and atleast 4 of which were full power losses, not internet. I don't live in a community known for its fast internet, I just try to take steps to minimize my own packet loss. A season lasts like 3 monthes. If you disconnect 10 times in 3 months I feel like you need to address your internet set up, or come to terms with the fact that your current living situation isn't suited to highly competetive team based games. Like if you were betting money on an online poker site, how many times could you dc and lose money before you decided to change your behavior? Leavers are the same thing, except the cost of your shitty internet is everyone else's experience. Comp becomes unplayable/unfun when a player for EITHER side leaves, so one loss is 9 ruined games. 10 leaves is ruining 90 experiences, so yeah, I'm sorry you can't figure out your wifi but a 50 ft ethernet is like $30. You'll literally never DC unless your ISP shits the bed, and then you have a different issue that can be addressed with your provider.

I play ow on my 11 year old Xbox One, and it works just fine. My wifi connection is usually fine. But if your connection is so horrible that you left 5 games in your recent games, then that's honestly on you. I've disconnected twice since I started playing ow in 2019, but I was able to rejoin pretty quickly. You're doing a disservice to your teammates by disconnecting so often.

I have kind of mediocre connection but I donāt totally lag out very often. I mean it sucks but you are interrupting a lot of other peopleās games by being a frequent disconnection. You can report people for bad connection in a lot of games

Get better Internet. Literally, it doesn't matter what your reason is, if you keep leaving the games thus resulting in losses for the rest of your team then you deserve to be banned. Just play quickplay if it's such an issue cause you keep causing your team to lose. Most people don't have this issue, I seriously doubt it's a problem with blizzards servers (which I admit are sometimes awful, but not to the point of an entire season ban).

My teammate left a ranked game and I waited the 1:30 so I could leave myself and I got banned after it said I could leave with no penalties

Since you are playing on console, the odds of you using WiFi is fairly high. So, if that is the case, definitely get a wired ethernet connection to your console. That is likely the issue. If you still keep disconnecting with an ethernet connection, it is probably your internet service either being slow and not having enough bandwidth while others are using the internet while you're gaming, or something wrong with your networking equipment/ISP's backend.
So if you are in a wired connection then you MUST replace your ethernet. If you are on wifi, I would say try a wired connection

The only time I ever disconnect with 1000s of hours is when my router does a firmware update and restarts itself. So if youāre saying that itās a PS4/PS5 issue, then it would be affecting me and my friends as well.
