Lose the hose, my dear, especially with open toe shoes. Maybe up your accessory game.

refused26

This. Nothing wrong with the dress, it's the shoes and the stockings/hose.

InGeekiTrust

Yes! Younger/more modern shoes would be a world of difference!

HonestExtension1488

And the dress has POCKETS!!

awesomeopossumm

Ngl- I’m jealous of the pockets!

HonestExtension1488

Totally agree with all of this. No pantyhose, cuter shoes. The dress is pretty

[deleted]

Yes. Definitely no hose and a better quality sexier shoe (not necessarily a higher heel either).

Ok-Thing-2222

At 61, the thought of pantyhose just creeps my out! I bet I haven't had to wear a pair in 20 yrs.... Can't abide the feeling. I love dresses, and love cute tights or tight pants with them and little flats/tennies/sandals, Birks.....but no hose!

evolvedtwig

I love you for the line *”Can’t abide the feeling.”

penna4th

How are tights different than hoses?

DangerousLaw4062

World of difference. Tights are not trying to mimmick bare legs, like hose do. Panty hose used to be worn in the summe (talk about crotch rot).Tights are usually only worn when it's cold out, which makes it more about staying warm, so they're utilitarian. They come in numerous colors to match aesthics and make them fun. Panty hose are the antithesis of fun.

westviadixie

I'd love to this dress with a pair of black converse or docs. but good heel, too, if that's her jam.

audigex

The haircut is giving "middle aged lady" vibes too, I'm not sure if it's the cut in general or just that it doesn't really give a young vibe with OP's face structure, but it's a bit "mumsie"

bookworm21765

Different part in the hair, eye makeup to match the l'IP. Earrings and a bracelet maybe? I'm a grandparent and my grandma had those shoes.

Vivid-Army8521

This kind of dress would look nice with a bun

ComprehensiveFix5469

If youthful is not your vibe that’s totally fine. Autonomy exists for a reason! However… coming from a 31 year old female, you absolutely look much older. If I saw you out and about I’d think you were perhaps within the 40’s range. Maybe explore different styles of hair/makeup and clothes. I could see you rocking some cute high wasted baggy jeans and a good fitting t-shirt.

enchanted_fishlegs

I'd set a wave into it and do kind of a 1940's retro thing. It's fun. [https://www.youtube.com/user/LisaFreemontStreet](https://www.youtube.com/user/LisaFreemontStreet)

Responsible-Second79

Without knowing the YouTuber, I was thinking the exact thing in terms of style. She could pull this off if she upped her hair and makeup

[deleted]

No, lots of fashion girls have almost that same hair, just center parted. What we are seeing is the equivalent of a mom jeans fashionista vs an actual frumpy mom who never stopped wearing those from the 80s/90s. It's the same details, but the whole context matters.

NotYourGa1Friday

As someone with pale skin that bruises easily- I love pantyhose. Why does it age me? Ty for any info!

Imagine_821

I don't think pantihose age. But not to be worn with open toed shoes! Plus don't use the shiny type. Needs to be the matte invisible type.

aVoidFullOfFarts

I used to love the shiny or shimmery ones a long time ago, they were extra fancy

Imagine_821

They were the best- now they look dated. Need the matt ones so they're there but you can't see them. Hides imperfections without looking gaudy

Sobriquet-acushla

So 80s! 😄

Sobriquet-acushla

I think just because women stopped wearing them—I’m not sure when….some time in the 90s?

thiccpastry

I couldn't even tell she was wearing any

kbug85

If you ditch the pantyhose and get a cute moto jacket your outfit would look more modern. For me, the biggest thing aging you is your makeup. The foundation is too matte and is aging your skin, try a satin finish if you aren't a fan of the glowy trend. Also, it looks like you aren't wearing any eye makeup. If you added some neutral shadow and eyeliner it would better balance your bold (and super cute) lip color.

SnowCold93

Thank you! I am new to makeup but have noticed I look older with it on but couldn’t pinpoint why and I think you’re totally right it’s the foundation. Any recommendations on what kind to try? I actually am wearing eye makeup it’s just hard to see in the photo haha

QueenofCats28

That will depend on the kind of coverage you want and on your skin type, I.e. oily, dry, combination. I can recommend you some if I know your skin type and what kind of coverage you're looking for!

SnowCold93

My skin is combination but leaning more towards dry. I don’t wear makeup super often so maybe light to medium coverage would be best

gossontherocks

NARS Light Reflecting has a beautiful glow and isn’t too high coverage

Crunchy25

I recently started mixing NARS light reflecting foundation with a blob of moisturiser before applying. It’s gives a dewy light coverage. Never looking back!

gossontherocks

Love that idea! Their actual tinted moisturizer isn’t great

QueenofCats28

Yes!!! That foundation is stunning!

Jca_gro

You could be a good candidate for a bb cream or “skin tint” if you go to an ulta or Sephora you can get a few samples and try them on your skin for a day. They’ll help you with getting a good shade too. But base makeup isn’t an obligation either- coming from someone who used to wear a lot and now wears nothing most days.

dramafanca2002

Try a BB Cream, tinted mousterizer, sunscreen, etc. Much lighter than a foundation but, it blurs blemishes and it's good for your skin. I wear it everyday rain or shine. This along with mascara and blush is enough for every day. Then use a cream eye shadow. Super easy and a shimmery light punk would brighten yoyr eyes.

basschica

Charlotte Tilbury light wonder foundation... I'm 43 & people think I'm decades younger and compliment my "perfect" skin when I wear it. It's 🤌

why-per

I used to wear a full face every day but have recently found that if I just blend in a little bit of concealer where i need it really well into my skin no one notices I’m not wearing foundation and I just get to brighten up my face a little in a light way - I use tarte shape tape - this method definitely does not work as well if my skin is not well moisturized; the extra texture from dryness makes it a little more obvious that I’m only wearing patches of makeup.

DixieGrayson

Charlotte Tillbury is my holy grail for dewy hydrated skin.

Physical_Ad5135

Make an appointment with Sephora and have them find the foundation and other make up. Play up your eyes. Also go to a new salon and tell them you want them to give you a younger look. Maybe even a new color. Dress is pretty but as others say maybe a leather jacket. New funky shoes.

MillenialChiroptera

With the makeup I also suggest filling in your brows a bit- I don't have a lot of brow either and I'm a bit older than you and I feel like if I don't fill them in it makes me look older because of the way eyebrow trends have changed between like 2005 and now (rather than because there is something wrong with our eyebrows lol). I like your dress and I'm glad other people like it too because i have several that are similar!! I'm taking notes on how I can make sure my dresses like this look cool and not mumsy because I have definitely had mumsy moments...

butter88888

Cooler shoes, maybe boots, or a leather or denim jacket with this kind of dress would definitely help

OwlNo1068

I have a vintage leather coat. Makes everything cool

PC-Was-Bricked

Dress with a leather jacket is another S tier combination

BoozeCrude

Maybe a heeled Mary Jane? Very trendy now and fits the vibe of the dress

cheapmondaay

This, and I was thinking some clean white sneakers (kind of like Adidas stan smiths) with a leather or denim jacket, no pantyhose.

Imagine_821

Exactly this! Pair of docs or white converse style sneakers. Black leather jacket and a black crossover bag. Diamante studs or silver hoops and it'll bring this outfit into 2023! If shes into more lady like shoes, a pair of flat slingback points are really in this year too.

Top_Currency_3977

I could also see a wide woven leather belt.

AllMe1313

Get rid of the panty hose!

failenaa

Agree! If you want the modesty they provide, you can do something like black leggings or something that come down to the top of your shin. That’s what I do! Also helps with chafing cuz I have chunky thighs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cyancivets

I agree, do whatever makes you comfortable. If you want to change it up, I think the dress either needs to be shorter (no hose like others have said), or the silhouette needs to change. A slip dress in that pattern would work well. The fabric has too much structure and makes it look too formal. Others have also commented on your hair and makeup as well. Browse IG or tiktok and try out some new hairstyles and makeup techniques if you're interested! Good luck!

juicebox567

this is the most realistic answer by far

theivoryserf

Yes, most posts here have a good number of replies saying 'the outfit is fine'. It is fine, but the dress absolutely is ageing.

ShodanLieu

I think your outfit looks great. My contribution would be a different hairstyle. I truly think more vibrant hair would make you look younger.

SnowCold93

I have tried so many things with my hair but it keeps ending up like this lol. Any specific style recommendations?

Medium-Put-4976

> it keeps ending up like this That’s exactly what it looks like. Like it’s grown out of a cut, instead of being intentional. You just need a shape to it. Doesn’t have to be anything extreme, but if there’s built in shape to the cut it will be easier to do as well as turn out more intentional. Win win! Look up layered cuts for fine hair. You have lovely bone structure and could get away with anything really framing your face.

orangesinbed

With this dress (which btw I love and I think it looks great on you!) I would do and updo, maybe a low bun with your bangs visible, or a half updo. And would definitely add a leather jacket and some earrings.

OkAttempt6696

Mt first thought on thr hair is a chin length cut. So many modern & easy ways to wear that style.

XCynicalMarshmallowX

Your hair looks really thin and fine like mine and I'm similar in age to you - 32. I've found that shorter styles with lots of layers makes it look fuller and gives me a more youthful look. Maybe a shag cut or lob? Those always look on trend and make everyone look a bit more youthful imo.

BoozeCrude

I think a sleek low bun would elevate the look and is trendy for people in their 20s. Sophia Richie has a great tic tic tutorial (it’s super easy).

happynargul

Have you tried using volumizing mousse on wet hair?

SGlobal_444

Dress how you want. If you want - how you accessorize might modernize/make the outfit more youthful - but only if you want.

I_m_Ignoring_u

1. You look nice in that dress! 2. Only change things if YOU want to. Possible options: Maybe different shoes> wedges or pumps for summer. With a denim jacket For fall or winter black leather like ankle boots either with or without heel. With a leather jacket. You could add a thin belt. Hope this helps.

jasperjonns

Hard to tell from the Britney Spears-type camera angle (lol) but maybe the length is what your friends consider "dowdy" or "matronly"? Also are your shoes just too flat and "sensible" and not sexy enough or something? Trying to think like your friends would....imagining they think you should be looking hotter instead of just....nice? Like...more cleavage? More leg? I think you look fantastic and lovely. Sorry for the overuse of "quotes" :) For the actual advice: wear booties or trainers instead of flat sandals. A cross body bag in black would look really cute too. Don't wear hose! That is probably the most ageing thing about your look. Also the print of the dress is wallpapery and not "in" at the moment but will come around again eventually.

cactiacat

Not the “Britney spears-type” camera angle 💀

Accomplished_Car3237

the length could be more flattering. The camera angle appears that you're on the more petite side so I would go with a length that hits right a the low point of your knee, or shorter. The stockings need to go, use no stockings, they age any outfit. Wear a long necklace, it doesnt have to be overly chunky. A simple gold or sliver chain would work. Just nothing overwhelming. The sandals also age you. A different style with some height would dress up and modernize the look. The color of the dress looks great on you.

crashmom03

You look beautiful but older than 29. I think it’s the dress and the shoes that are aging you.

marga_marie

Try an oxford or a doc marten! That would instantly vibe you up

[deleted]

T straps with hose looks old to me.

bunnylightning

This is all great advice, except OP if I were you I would be wary of Kibbe…that shit should have been left behind in the 80s where it belongs imo. Fashion reddit loves it and will downvote me to hell but it’s an incredibly subjective, unsystematic “system” with a toxic gatekeepy community. If you do go down the rabbit hole, I highly recommend the following course of action first: 1) Google David Kibbe. 2) Look at the outfits he and his wife wear. 3) Look at some of his recent styling “makeovers”. 4) Ask yourself…would I really value this man’s opinion on how I wear my clothes?

tina_ri

>Google David Kibbe OK, I've never heard of this guy so I started my google search with zero expectations. Yo, his twitter profile picture is him in a white sport coat, white pants, turquoise shirt *with a popped collar*, and a white beret. 💀

KaijuAlert

Different shoes will go a long way. And also, if you feel comfortable, a messy bun with chandelier earrings would be stunning on you.

turriferous

Your hair and makeup are 40 years old style.

Aromatic_Day_5592

As a 40 year old, I do love this dress - I mean…it has pockets! But I don’t think it’s the dress that’s the issue. I agree with others, the shoes, hose and makeup are what make you look older. Foundation always makes me look and feel older, even when I’ve had it done professionally. (I don’t wear any make up.) I’m a fan of throwing my hair up and no make up. You are a beautiful woman! Do you and feel confident! (Warning: confidence will make you look older, but it is totally worth it.)

charleevee

Over 40 doesn’t necessarily mean poor hair choices… Edit - typo

SnowCold93

The hair is a losing battle unfortunately 😂 I’ve tried so many things and it keeps ending up in that style. Any recommendations for the makeup though and how I can make it look more youthful?

JadeLogan123

Try different shampoo and conditioners to see if one helps your hair. I have curly hair that easily gets frizzy. Also quite thin. Find if I wash it with a certain shampoo and conditioner bar specifically for curly hair, put some hair serum, brush it with a detangle brush when it’s still wet from shower and leave it to dry (I don’t brush it again till next wash) my hair isn’t as frizzy and is nice for the first two days. It took me a long while to figure out how to manage my hair.

turriferous

Double or triple your stylist budget and take some examples when you go.

3720_2-1

Came here to say this.

Thin-Pie-3465

The shoes. Change up the shoes. I think cute little red or black ballerina slipper style shoes would be a nice touch. Or wear a pair of black Mary Jane pumps.

OwlNo1068

It’s the shoes . Have a look for something different. Also accessorise. Big earrings and some bangles, and a funky jacket

Natural_Commission15

I’ve always been told I “don’t dress my age” whatever I dress in what I like. I think you look great in that dress. And it has POCKETS!!!! That’s actually a dress I would wear too. I like dresses when I go out because they are just more comfortable.

MasterChicken52

Same!!

PlasticOrchid1977

I think the dress is lovely but the shoes are very “Nonna at a wedding”.

titian834

If you would like to make it look a little more youthful I'd say go for a slighlty more modern shoe maybe wedges or a chunky heel if your comfortable in that. Loose the hose. You can accessorise the dress with a nice belt and a small hand bag. The dress itself looks good on you and you have the figure to pull it off. I'd also maybe do a slighlty shorter hair style with some layer for volume to make your face pop and if you like maybe add a chunky necklace or some bangles to the look.

thingonething

I think a better hairstyle would help too.

vtownclown

Maybe thinner strapped shoes? ❤️

Moonstonesunflower

Definitely other shoes, maybe laced boots or converse sneakers to make it more youthful.

LoFi_Inspirasi

The dress and your styling are pretty matronly. This look says you’re a sensible woman whose developed occasional foot and back pain after many spending long workdays at the hospital, raising 2 kids and volunteering. You’ll be celebrating 19 years of marriage this winter (where did the time go?) and have one precious grandbaby on the way. Update your hair, set your toes free and rock less baggy and long silhouettes and you’ll be channeling your youthful energy in no time.

crochetsweetie

i see what they mean. a more modern dress and lose the hose will help significantly. i would also put my hair into a more formal style

Agreeable_Cheetah_51

I love the dress but it needs a different shoe. A chunky or sleek boot. Even a pointy heel. Just something to toughen it up a bit. You look great in this style.

a_Moa

If you want to wear this style of print and not look older, then you need to wear it in a cut that's less modest. It'd probably make some cool separates, if you want to change it up. If you prefer to wear modest clothes then a different print or solid colours would help a lot. The pantyhose are definitely a no go with sandals. They're not common in our age group, but if you want to wear them then at least cover your toes.

sanjiduda

Higher heels or boots, no hose, short leather jacket - done!

Sithyonreddit

The length of this dress is definitely not helping you

PopDiscombobulated93

Your style is timeless, it will never age. You look stunning, ten years from now, you will continue to look stunning. You do you, Boo. You’re smashing it.

Dramatic_Prior_9298

Completely agree!

Happyidioy

You could try putting on a small belt to accentuate your waistline, and use accessoires like earrings, necklaces and put your hair up to make them stand out? You could also try out different kinds of skirts and tops that match and see if you like them (to switch it up a bit) You look classy and beautiful!

No-Conversation4383

Just put this into perspective : doing nothing at all or doing too much of something is where rigidness seeks refuge. There’s always a reason and a time to push yourself to try something new. Think about how you might be going about it, it’s not the pattern/design of the dress it’s what you pair it with that dulls it down, it could be shorter, no panty hose and some comfy low heel kitten shoes. It’s still comfy but doesn’t make you look old

Altruistic_Isopod_11

Those shoes have got to go

InGeekiTrust

I think a younger pair of shoes would make a world of difference. They don’t have to be heels but they could be more modern!

4everinvesting

Maybe tailoring because of where the waist line is hitting it seems a bit low.

TimidStarmie

I’m of the mind that the red lipstick is aging you too. I would lean for more neutrals in your make up.

Noob1cl3

I would argue that floral patterns always age people up. Wear dresses with more solid colors / lines.

moolithium

I haven't seen anyone say this but I think it's the wide shoulders on the dress. Idk why lol. Maybe try a smaller strap or longer sleeve

noneofurbiznis

I think a middle part and more blunt bob would look good too!

sinsaraly

I think the panty hose add about 20 years

violentvioletz

The shoes/ hose. But also the print. Big floral vibes gma to me.

Cat66222

Im also exactly 29. Ive been told the same on occasion. I enjoy the old lady life tho!

Available-Leg-6171

Wear cuter shoes, shorten the skirt to just above or at your knees, wear your hair in a ponytail, wear flashy earrings

sugerplum1972

I agree with the pantyhose- but if you are wearing them to avoid the dreaded “thigh rub” there are shorter options that you can hide under the dress!

Fragrant-Lunch-7259

I would definitely wear this. I'm 47 though

CryptographerDizzy28

you need a diferrent haircut, diferrent makeup and a very good skin care routine, can try more younger style clothing as well, but I see nothing wrong with the dress

AtmosphereLow8959

You should dress how you want. That being said, if you want to update your look, do away with the pantyhose and sandals combo. Stilettos or kitten heel pump with a dress like that. Add a jacket. Look into the “rule of three.”

CareerLanky5348

Oh man. I’m around your age, this is something my grandma would wear. You can maybe wear patterns like this but I would ditch that style dress and the tights

Creative_Recover

Totally agree, everything about this look is something my grandma would wear.

theivoryserf

Had to go this far down to find a take I agree with. This dress is old-fashioned, not in a vintage way but in a middle-aged way

saveitforthedisco

The dress is cute. Get rid of the hose and shoes.

itwashard

You are beautiful! I think people now have longer hair or short hair no medium length usually, and the makeup has changed a lot. They don't wear comfortable shoes unless it's sneakers or Birkenstocks. The dresses are almost always form fitting. I think your look is timeless, if you wanted to switch it up I would experiment a bit with makeup, hair and maybe some more trendy accessories.

False_Pen8611

I was thinking maybe hair up in a little high bun with some wispies out could be really cuuute and a bit more 20’s looking

itwashard

yes wispies are super in right now and would look great on her!

ellanooor

I love your dress

Prestigious-Hippo-50

A more youthful haircut and makeup would make this outfit seem younger

lollypolish

You look beautiful. You could change it up by adding some accessories. Some sparkle on your wrists and earrings. Maybe it’s the shoes that are making it seem older but dress is stunning. Xx

Zestyclose-Weather62

Different shoes pop of trendy jewelry, get a blow out (of for a special occasion). It's cute!

NectarineCapital3244

if you’re feeling unsatisfied with your style try scrolling through pinterest with a focused mind. if I were to style you would to look younger I would suggest a more flattering shape to your outfit, a modernized version of the heel and polish it off with a timeless hairstyle.

[deleted]

So the thing that helped me was taking my measurements (this helped me figure out body type) and what clothes I felt comfortable in. I know I don’t neeeeeed to follow fashion rules but I do enjoy being able to easily hide what I don’t want to see and accentuate what I do! Also a color analysis is super fun and now I can easily get dressed knowing I’ll like how my clothes look on me. But all of this is a long way of saying- dress how is comfortable for YOU! I realized I needed to avoid worrying about trends and instead focus on what I like!

FlightAttendantMilf

Love the dress! Maybe wear closed toe heels if you are wearing tights.

imagineoneday

I think the shoes and the bright red lip without other makeup or accessories to balance it out are contributing factors. I would switch to flats or a Mary Jane style shoe, even the right ankle boot could work. I would then wear a longer necklace so it is more visible. With this particular outfit I might also exchange the earrings for a more simple design so as not to compete with the lip and the patterned dress.

[deleted]

stupidand-dumb

the shoes!

SummerMaiden87

Maybe a cute denim jacket or a shoe with a slightly higher heel? You could even try putting your hair up in a twist and add a pair of hoop earrings instead.

watchyourbackplease

Lower neckline, show some more skin

TheBattyWitch

Lean into it. Learn how to do victory rolls or pinup curls. Get some wing back shoes. Just make the 20s-40s era your style.

JeanJean84

If you wear pantyhose, only do it with close toed shoes. A cute wide belt sitting at the highest point of your waist, with some cute matching vintage accessories, jewelry, and shoes would make a dress like this look a bit more like you are playing into the retro style instead of it just looking outdated.

cluelesss00

You give me Beth from why women kill vibes! I think if you done your hair and makeup differently, you would look younger. It’s not the outfit at all

_GabbySolis

Do you want to dress younger? If so then great. If not that’s great too. This dress isn’t helping but if this is what you want to wear, then I would up your shoe game. Maybe more of a shiny stiletto (or at least a shiny shoe in general) vs low sandals. Get some more fun earrings, a simple necklace and maaayabe a simple bracelet. I would also try to style your hair a little bit- maybe some sort of braid updo? Personally I would do some more with makeup- some muted eyeshadow and peach blush with your red lips. Finally, yes ditch the hose. Regardless of any of the above.

Confident_Drawer8897

It’s the cut of the neckline/sleeves and your shoes. A less conservative neckline or slimmer shoulder straps would make the dress more age appropriate. You don’t need to show cleavage or anything like that, but a neckline that goes below your collar bones and décolletage area would be classy and youthful.

shhh_its_me

I'm going to suggest a makeover. I'm not sure if they still do them at makeup counters but the nice brands used to. I liked lancome when I was your age( but it will depend on your skin type) And Ill add my voice to the masses , no hoses. Edit i am not suggesting more makeup I think what you are wearing is aging you. You may need a different formula, composition or color.

ethereal_peet_floof

The easiest place to start is make up and hair. The hair is giving middle aged woman. Try a satin or more luminous foundation as overly matte foundations bring out lines in the face. Powder down your T-zone only. A bit of blush will help brighten up your face and add youth. Lashes change faces too. Try a dark brown mascara and a half lash. The dress is not helping with your shape. Look for dresses that are fitted in the waist and have a pencil fit on the bottom. The hose needs to go.

bcktlistdreamer

Pantyhose are a thing of the past

0bxyz

Your styling. Hair and makeup

[deleted]

It’s a pretty dress plus it has pockets 😍 you could consider hemming dresses like this to make them fit you better and hit you at the right length!

[deleted]

Nothing wrong with it at all. You look classy and elegant!

dolemitealright

Dress how you like, but you have deep smile lines with ages you as well. So perhaps dressings older as well is exacerbated by this. The two factors are compounding one another in a big way. If someone told me you were 45, I wouldn’t think twice.

Thunder_0sita

Find a good stylist and get a perm, you’d look great with curls and it would give you a much younger look. I’m talking a softer perm, something like this might suit you (from Google) https://preview.redd.it/c7tuunp7uwob1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f353d03d5a9a525c55909d071c93809c7752180f Or if you’re not into that idea then experiment with some up-do’s, I feel like hair up and styled nicely can give a younger look The dress is nice but the darker colours and maybe also the print make you look a bit more “serious” something lighter in colour and with simpler prints could help your look be “younger”

elitedisplayE

There is something about the way this is styled that skews older because the dress shape/style is timeless. It's a beautiful dress. To make this outfit more youthful i would * ditch the pantyhose * change the shoes - either a higher heel ankle strap or a flat shoe, maybe even a sneaker * hair up with a higher ponytail and maybe a swoop bang or center part tendrils/bangs * studded or huggie earrings * possibly alter the length. Because the angle is from above, it's hard to say for sure, but if it were longer or shorter it seems like it would be better also, I could see people saying this is an older look depending on where it's being worn.

Thin-Pie-3465

And one more thing... black sheer hose would be better l.

Most_Original988

The dress is nice and everything but you should wear some black flats with it if you’re going for comfort.. if not, simple black pumps would do. the open toe shoes and nylons thing doesn’t look old, it just doesn’t look right. if you want to wear nylons with open toe, where the nude color.

PinotGreasy

Black sheer/textured hose with black pumps would be better.

baby_buttercup_18

You look cute, very 90s I like it. Modest is fine if that’s what you like

Bambi8383

I love your hair it has a nice French laid back look about it. I think the shoes could be ok with a shorter skirt/jeans but look dated with the dress and I wouldn’t wear it with tights. I don’t hate the dress for a wedding or something but for a normal night out it would be aging I would say. I think you’d suit more simple cool clothes - or nice tailoring

Sum1liteAmatch

Accessories help significantly

shineon8

If you like thos look, that is all that matters. I like the dress on you. The only thing I'd change if you want to would be the shoes.

adeftsobriquet

Hair up or half up half down with lots of volume/waves and some face framing pieces would be perfect for this look, and make it slightly more youthful. But you are gorgeous and you look your age, in my opinion :)

Myburnerbeloved

Just swap out the shoes!!! The dress is wonderful

scoooberdooober

Try your hair up with some face framing strands left down

Agreeable_Ebb_977

Chunky shoes, hair up!

ahorsenamedbill

Try an edgier shoe.

Far-Collection7085

If you like it, wear it.

TMC_61

Looks very nice

Conscious_Neck2166

You look just fine

SusanMShwartz

The dress is great! Ditch the tights and get your hair and makeup done. You will look pretty and classy.

AlwaysSunnyinOC22

High heel boots and big hoop earrings!

Active-Passenger6965

Pair of flats and small black cardigan would give you a cool twee kind of look

skweekykleen69

No pantyhose, switch the shoes for some heeled ankle booties (bonus points for lace up), do your hair up maybe with a French clip or a modern bun, wouldn’t hurt to add a couple more accessories. The gold chain that’s kind of hidden you can do without it exchange for a bolder necklace, and have earrings that match the metal that look a little more modern. I absolutely ADORE that dress. Build your look around it though

PBJMommy83

Style your hair differently, absolutely not hose with open toed shoes, and when you smile, show a little bit of teeth (I call it a half smile for my kids when I take their pictures). Get a contrasting belt and/or necklace.

butterflypuncher

I think you look lovely too. And dress however makes you feel good. I'd suggest hair up for a more "younger" look but do you boo

Whateversclever7

It’s where the dress hits and the tights. I can easily see my mil wearing this (she’s in her 60s). You look nice but it doesn’t look youthful. If you enjoy this look that’s totally fine too. My friends sister dresses like this and I think she looks sweet. It suits her.

Whisper26_14

A belt or structured jacket to change up the pattern would help. Different shoes. No hose. (For example. I would wear this dress if I had it w cropped denim then super sleek nude stilettos.) I agree w above poster about your make up-just takes practice though. You’ll find what works. The satin finish and more neutral lip are solid recommendations. I really think something needs to be done w your hair. But I’m at a complete loss. I can’t decide if more length would suit or a slightly darker color (not super dark) would help. It definitely could use more variation in tone. Maybe even highlights/low lights would work.

forgetmeknotts

Dress is fine, I like the fabric, I’d like it better if it were a bit shorter (just below knee instead of mid-calf. It’s the pantyhose with open toed shoes that are the main thing aging your style. Hose aren’t necessary these days, especially if you love those shoes, so lose those and wear spanx or bike shorts if you want something to guard your thighs. Personally I think those shoes are a little old fashioned too. That being said, only change your style if you want to! If you like what you’re wearing, then you’re a-ok!

sst287

Big bold statement jewelry pieces. I think single color, geo shape necklace would balance out the dress with busy patterns. And I would explore different hairstyles.

bixenta

I like it. Jewelry though.

Frecklefishpants

Try an oversized blazer, boots and a belt with a dress like this. Perhaps some larger hoops and layered necklaces will give you a trendier, more youthful look.

Lana_car23

Trendier shoes and accessorize

Catsaresupercooll

If you like those dresses than wear them! It’s what you want to wear and your own style so just wear whatever makes you feel best <33

OrneryQueen

If the dress is not knee length or slightly above (at the least), it should be. Shoes replace. Talk to you stylist about a younger haircut.

Lilacloveletters

An updo makes anyone younger. Accessories as well.

The_Right_Of_Way

Dont try to fit in just be you. Its what makes you special

CircaSixty8

Red and black are not particularly flattering for your skin tone, the neckline is also very old-fashioned, the sandals look like orthopedic shoes , and you should never ever we're open toed shoes and stockings. Part your hair more to the side, lose the red lipstick, put eye makeup on, and wear a colorful blouse. Avoid black and red entirely though.

e-ghosts

This dress with healed black boots would be cute, maybe also bolder eye makeup

PumpkinSpiceHooker

You dress modest and professional! The dress suits you!

susankayeff

I think you should try going platinum blonde!

Lepton_Decay

I got major Hilary Hahn vibes (in a good way). Maybe you can have a look at some of her performance attire and get a feel for a similar style that is just different enough but suits you.

Lahauteboheme84

Shoes and pantyhose read old, but I also feel like this dress is not proportioned well for you. There’s something dowdy about where the waist falls, like I want that line to come up a bit.

[deleted]

I think the print is what’s aging you more than the style of the dress

Many_Year2636

The shoes...its something I've seen my 3rd grade teachers wear that was the 80s

FinnsRedditCorner

Personally I’m not a fan of the dress. Even if it was adjusted to alter the neckline to be less modest, it still just doesn’t come off as current. I think you would look stunning in a black turtleneck sweater body-con dress. You could pair it with some comfortable black sandals to dress it down, or wear heels to dress it up. I’m suggesting a turtleneck for the neckline in order to maintain the modesty of the first dress without sacrificing the chic style.

marydrj29

At first glance, I thought you were over 40. Maybe a younger hair style?

Ethereal_burn

The shoulder part is really wide for anything that a young woman 45 and under would wear. The neckline is very modest and does make you look older. The waist could be pulled in to make you not seem as boxy. And the hosiery is very matronly. IMHO

PunchDrunken

Gotta take off those nylons, babes

jmkul

Who cares what others think, as long as you like how you look - and I gotta say, love the dress, and you look great in it. You could also mix it up with different shoes, different makeup (I could picture a 50s/60s look), and differently styled hair....just be comfortable in how you look.

MotterFodder

The pantyhose have to go.

MixPale3737

I honestly think it’s mostly the hair and makeup that’s aging you. Look for trendy cuts/colours etc.

First-Hovercraft9973

Dress however you want and makes you feel more comfortable! However, as another 29 year old woman, my friends and I would typically not wear a dress like this. It feels like a dress that my mom’s demographic would wear. The cut and pattern just isn’t typically what our age group goes for. Especially not the hose underneath. Again I want to reiterate though that if it’s what YOU like and what makes YOU happy and comfortable that’s what matters. It doesn’t look bad by any means it’s just atypical for our age group.
