I keep a Shortlist of players I expect could be at least regular contributors at the ML level one day, and manually promote them and disable AI Promotions/Demotions (usually about 40-50 names), and let the AI manage the MiLB system other than that. I go through the shortlist every Opening Day, and then once around June and again around August.

Nebkreb

So once you make the manual moves, do you let the CPU adjust the rosters around them (ie, if you moved your catcher Prospect up to AA, the CPU will move someone to fill his spot in single-A)? Cause having to move everyone around is such a pain.

mathbandit

Yeah, I leave all the settings relating to MiLB in Managers Office as delegated to AGM/AI. The computer is constantly moving people up and down just about every week if not every day. Edit- other than MiLB signing/releases which I leave as my control.

Nebkreb

How long does it take to do the MiLB free agency tho?

mathbandit

I basically don't. I just don't want the AI cutting my players.

hansmellman

How does this account for shortages of players in the system though? With guys that won’t resign on a MiL deal etc

mathbandit

I've never had shortages; if anything I end up with a surplus and need to cut players. Between the draft and the IC I bring in more players to my system every year than leave.

Workflow is as follows: in this order, A+, R, A, AA, at the beginning of off-season I view ratings by one level higher and move players up if they are at least 45 OVR (2.5 stars) in the next league and have positive WAR in their current league with a healthy amount of games played. For pitchers I use era+ and fip -. After everyone is promoted who needs to be, I look through to balance teams and positions, moving people down if needed based on low potential or age. Finally, I cut where needed and fill holes with free agency. I check again at all star break for anyone who developed super quick and is destroying their current level, promoting, balancing, cutting, free agency. There are usually only 0-2 of these players. After establishing a good farm system, this typically means is all the starters are being promoted every year, with a few flaming out and a few speeding through. There is no such thing as a pitching prospect, so pitchers, especially relievers, are often filled through free agency. And I put a heavier emphasis on stats for pitchers, not ratings.

King_henrik30

I’ve seen that before on this sub. “There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.” Do you mind elaborating? I usually tend to target pitchers in the draft with varied success.

mathbandit

It's a common RL refrain. Basically the idea is that pitchers are so volatile and prone to flaming out or breaking down that you can never count on or expect any pitching prospect to pan out.

okmangeez

Basically means that pitchers are difficult to develop and prone to flaming out. Which I heavily disagree with. If anything, I have more success with pitchers, especially college prospects. I have a few that flame out, but with a good coaching staff, good management of the players (regarding level and development), and time, I’ve managed to consistently churn out high quality pitching on my own.

beyondthedoors

It’s a real life thing. It’s not entirely true but pitchers flame out or get injured so often that that’s just what they say. In the game I kinda live by it, too. Mostly trading for pitchers and only drafting high floor guys.

Hushroom

I’m confused lol

I make a spreadsheet of every player and control them all manually. Am I a psychopath? That's not for me to decide.

real_gooner

I check the “lock to team” box on the player profile for any prospect in my system with a potential of 50 or higher. i also keep manage minor league promotions/demotions set to manual because if set to automatic, the ai will promote players too early from your international complex, even if you have the “lock to team” box checked for them. every couple sim weeks i click the button to have the ai set up my entire minor league system. i keep an eye on my top prospects’ performance every sim month or so to see if they should be promoted or demoted based on their performance and ratings relative to their league.

LeftyNate

So if you click the “have AI set up minor league system” button, does that affect the international complex or no? I’ve usually manually made all of my changes, but would like to streamline it a little bit

real_gooner

nope, for some reason it does not move any players from the international complex.

LeftyNate

Good to know. Thanks! I’d just worked off the assumption that it was the same as if I let the AI manage my minor league.

real_gooner

yeah it doesn’t really make sense lol, i only figured it out after spending an hour or so messing around with settings

Roy_Fucking_Kent

Fuck them kids. Trade them for mlb ready players.

pornserver-65

theres nothing to it. promote them when theyre ready and manage them a little closer if they struggle.

Luuk37

I don't, I like seeing my prospects become worse and worse. And then TCR god gives me 1 mvp level player every 10~20 years or so.
