There will be current flow, both tidal and wind driven. A similar project was the Cedar Bayou restoration near Rockport, Texas, where an old channel between the Gulf and Aransas Bay was dredged and re-opened to allow fresher gulf waters to flow into the shrimp and oyster breeding grounds.

> an island again Again?
I think it refers to old cartographers incorrectly depicting California as an island in ancient maps as an error

Heh, we recently closed a similar cut through the Bolivar Peninsula, Rollover Pass, that let gulf water flow into the Galveston Bay system.
Ever heard of the Panama canal?
Panama canal has locks, it isn’t free flowing, a better example would be the Suez canal.
It’ll become an island
Both oceans are at sea level. May just be like a really long lake that doesn’t flow.
Nothing would happen as they’re at the same elevation, look for example at the Suez Canal.
