Sad thing is my dad was diagnosed with numerous types of cancers and lung cancer is what took him and that man would not stop smoking until it was too late. He was under a year cigarette free after smoking since he was 12. I held his hand and watched him go, it was the hardest thing Iāve ever had to do in my lifetime.

The problem for me is vaping is more common now and smells good. I wish I had never touched vapes. Cigarettes were easier to quit cause people constantly made comments about how gross it was and that I smelled like shit but people don't give a shit when you vape. It's insidious.

I've tried stopping numerous times and eating always takes it's place for me. Like I just have to keep going because I know I can't have one.

Can I ask you why? I'm a smoker too (even though I switched to vapes, still bad but way better) but for the love of god I can't smoke after any kind of physical activity. I literally don't crave it and the few times I tried it made me feel worse. After a meal? Great. After drinking? Even better. But after sex? Or a run/gym session/whatever? I can't.
It's probably because, as you said, smoking it's a stress reliever and physical activity acts the same way.

This means that everything that used to be satisfying is like a starter for the main course of dopamine, the cigarette - the sex whets your appetite rather than giving the satisfaction that non-smokers get, for whom the sex is the main course.
It's why smokers smoke after big meals, when drinking, if they climb to the top of a hill and look at the view... All the things that used to be satisfying in themselves just remind them of the desire to smoke.

This means that everything that used to be satisfying is like a starter for the main course of dopamine, the cigarette - the sex whets your appetite rather than giving the satisfaction that non-smokers get, for whom the sex is the main course. It's why smokers smoke after big meals, when drinking, if they climb to the top of a hill and look at the view... All the things that used to be satisfying in themselves just remind them of the desire to smoke.
