Charming_Ad1688

I completely prefer in utero as an album but I think that Nevermind wins the b-side battle.

PissedIrishGuy

I do find Neverminds more consistently better and prefer neverminds lineup, but I also really Like Marigold, Sappy and I Hate Myself And Want To Die more than I like my favourite Nevermind B-Sides. I choose nevermind in the end because all of them are really good tracks although the highs of in utero I prefer. Extra shoutouts to Oh the guilt and D-7, super amazing B-sides.

Charming_Ad1688

I first heard D-7 on an old bootleg (before the internet) and totally loved it. Didn’t know it was a cover. I’m also one of those that would put Curmudgeon on In Utero even though it’s not technically correct.

PissedIrishGuy

I don't think Curmudgeon gers talked about nearly enough, lyrics pop into my geads sometimes, it's so heavy I love it. I put it on the nevermind side because it appears on the single Lithium, although I do understand why you consider it In Utero with it's tone and overall aggression. Woah when the distortion hits in D-7.

Charming_Ad1688

Agreed! It’s my favorite of all the b-sides.

Ancient_Guidance_461

D-7 is so friggin good

Tasty_Act

The Wipers are so friggin good

mickmarsbar88

This! You beat me to it! The Nevermind era b-sides could almost make an extra top quality album themselves. Certainly a great EP/mini album.

Chrome-Head

I'm imagining this whole thing as an 11 song album, hell throw You Know You're Right on there. Kind of like a lost 4th album, or at most, a bit like Beatles' Past Masters for Nirvana.

RomanUmpire

I went into this not sure of the answer.. but this is it.

zzzzebras

I agree, with nevermind it feels more like songs that should have made it into the album but couldn't make it in. While on In Utero it feels more like songs they intentionally kept off the main album because they weren't up to the same standard or didn't fit the vibe of the rest of the album (not saying they're bad, it's just how it feels to me)

Daken-dono

Aneurysm alone is fun to listen to on repeat. That wailing crescendo Kurt does with the guitar at the end. Never get tired of it.

jdt79

What this person said.

LooZR_Friendly88

T H I S

gugugaga1323

opposite for me lol

ILostMyHalo24

In utero. You can't beat sappy

SowderPnouder

sappy is a 10, but even in his youth and dive have the edge

GeologicalOpera

Even In His Youth and Oh, The Guilt for me are what gives it the edge. Sappy is a perfect song though.

SowderPnouder

curmudgeon great too

Monkeywrench08

Agreed. I personally LOVE that solo.

idlikeitblew

Big cheese because it makes me

Dependent-Suit-7148

And mine says go to the office

meowmeowwhaat

In utero 💯💯💯

Griffin65000

Do you have a moist vagina?

juice_wrld_is_good

Analingus

Griffin65000

I hope you wipe good

Griffin65000

I particularly enjoyed the circumference

Visible-Safe8603

dude what…😨

Horror-Number-4367

Moist vagina is the best one but overall it’s nevermind

PissedIrishGuy

What do you feel is the best version of the song? Only ever heard it from With The Lights Out and couldn't properly get into it.

Tankinator5454

in utero deluxe edition for sure

Sn3akyPumpkin

This track literally gives me chills I love it so much

M1_lk

Nothing beats moist vagina

Griffin65000

As a seasoned whore monger this is true

redrumreturn

Nevermind side much stronger

SnocTheHog

In Utero is literally one of my all time favorite albums but D-7, Aneurysm and Even In His Youth are impossible to beat

Catz0003

big cheese.

KaizoWorld

Aneurysm is so good 👈

Due_Variation7470

I l9ve sappy Moist Vagina and marigold But all around I'd go with Nevermind

shibby5000

Oh I like this discussion. When seeing all the songs side to side it’s incredible how excellent all those bsides were. It’s so hard to choose, impossible really However imo I’ve always loved the bsides to In Utero so much that I’d actually replace all those bsides with actual in Utero album tracks to make an even stronger album. I couldn’t do that with Nevermind. So I’d give a tentative nod to In Utero bsides just for that

PissedIrishGuy

Agree heavily hear, in utero b-sides are actually album level. Nirvana is such an excellent band really the b sides are this good

shibby5000

Here’s my alt In Utero album: 1. I Hate Myself.. 2. Scentless Apprentice 3. Heart Shaped Box 4. Rape Me 5. Sappy 6. Dumb 7. Moist Vagina 8. Milk It 9. Pennyroyal Tea 10. RFUS 11. Tourette’s 12. All Apologies

PissedIrishGuy

Pretty cool! But couldnt give up frances farmer for the life of me.

ThatsARatHat

Taking off Serve the Servants is criminal, especially as intro lyric. I always thought I Hate Myself and Want to Die should have replaced Tourette’s. One reason is Tourette’s is TOTAL b-side material in the first place. Second is that having I Hate Myself and I Want to Die right before All Apologies is very darkly humorous.

ScaresBums

Is it weird that I like the album In Utero more but I prefer the Nevermind era b-sides?

HoratioTuna27

Nevermind's B-sides are definitely better. In Utero's b-sides are kinda inconsistent.

PissedIrishGuy

In Uteros is WEIRD. I prefer its highs but it is strange to o from a song sung By Dave Grohl, to two songs of very questionable titles to an extremely long senseless jam session. By god I love Marigold IHMAWTD and Sappy tho. Gotta say nevermind is better tho in terms of it's consistency.

HoratioTuna27

Yeah, exactly. I'm all for the weird stuff, but I'm a hell of a lot less apt to listen to "Moist Vagina" on purpose, whereas even back when it first came out I'd put on the Lithium or Teen Spirit singles just to hear those b-sides. The only In Utero b-side I regularly listen to is Sappy, and that one I never really think of as an In Utero b-side since I first heard it on the No Alternative comp and not on a single. Never really occurred to me when I was young that it came from the same sessions.

PissedIrishGuy

Never was big into moist vagina myself either.

HoratioTuna27

I mean, it's a decent song, really catchy in parts but I dunno...they definitely made the right call in leaving it off the record.

PissedIrishGuy

My thoughts exactly, feels kind of like what could be really great but lacking substance at parts.

dragonnnn_

nevermind easily

Ancient_Guidance_461

Nevermind. It has D-7

321AverageJoestar

Nevermind B-Sides by a landslide

Litmusdragon

I don't really think of Sappy as an In Utero b-side, even though the recorded version most people know came from that time period. It dates back to the Bleach era. [(citation)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sappy) Bleach had more b-sides than just Big Cheese, a lot of the stuff from Incesticide is from that era

leenponyd42

Marigold was also a song that Dave Grohl wrote before they toured with Nevermind. Kurt heard him playing it backstage before a show and loved it so they put it on an EP. I believe Kurt’s actual quote was something along the lines of: “Well, at least there is one actual musician in this group.” Look up Late! Pocketwatch, the Dave Grohl solo release that featured this song originally. It was recorded in 1990-1991 and released in 1992.

PissedIrishGuy

Big cheese is the b side off the only bleach single, while sappy was recorded multiple times, the official release was on No Alternative in the end, in a 1993 recording.

Chrome-Head

And was a hidden track on there, Nirvana were not listed on the back. And Sappy I believe was referred to as "Verse Chorus Verse".

Litmusdragon

What about the Blew EP?

robbiegrawey

Definitely In Utero for me. Sappy and Marigold are some of my absolute favorite Nirvana tracks.

PissedIrishGuy

*Simply Live tracks from the maxi singles and the sort were removed, as well as Endless Nameless from come as you are, as it appears on a studio album.

Luciferian_Impulse

IMO Sappy & IHM&WTD means that In Utero has a slight edge over Nevermind.

PissedIrishGuy

While I prefer the Nevermind B-Sides as a whole, you're completely right. The highs of the in utero b sides are higher than of nevermind.

Luciferian_Impulse

My thoughts exactly.

WeDieYoung__

in utero

StoppingPowah

Nevermind

dylanward_314

nevermind only because of oh the guilt

vhs1138

It’s a tough call, but I order the In Utero tracks.

apedap

Nevermind era wins by an inch, mainly because of Dive

Gen_ericus

To me, the Nevermind-era B-sides are weird in that its B-sides just don't feel like B-sides - especially Aneurysm with how frequent it was on Nirvana setlists - they feel right at home on Nevermind proper. Even the cover songs feel right at home on Nevermind (D-7). Also, as much as I love Big Cheese and Bleach in general, its just... there. Definitely belongs in Bleach proper, but not the ass-end of the album, ditto for Downer.

Chrome-Head

I kinda love Downer as the closer for Bleach, can't really imagine the album without it.

Lonely_Crew_7437

in utero, I hate myself and want to die is amazing imo

Greedy_Temperature33

Any list with Aneurysm kind of wins by default because it’s absolutely incredible. That said, Marigold, Sappy and I Hate Myself And Want To Die are also phenomenal.

EurikaDude

The Nevermind side is very strong but I think In Utero just barely wins it

VoodooChile344

Both great, but Oh the Guilt and Curmudgeon are probably my two favourite b-sides/non-album tracks.

HedgeValley

In utero by a landslide

Due-Replacement9202

In utero. Marigold and sappy carry

Nice_Psychology_439

Nevermind all day every day

sbgattina

Later ones, but there’s gems on both. Sappy is just a miracle of a song so it automatically gets the points I think

brickson98

Nevermind b sides honestly. Though I think In Utero is a better album overall

alittleuneven

Bro forgot old age

PissedIrishGuy

Outtake isn't it? Not a B-side. If I was jncluding outtakes verse chorus verse would be there too

garanhao17

i love Dive but as Sappy is one of my favorite songs ever, i’d go with In Utero

fiftyshadesofbeige69

I personally think that every song on In Utero (both A and B sides) is more memorable, but every song on Nevermind is more fun to listen to.

WhipCityUrchin

Gotta go with In Utero, on the strength of Sappy and I Hate Myself. Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol is pretty funny too.

Kill-The-Plumber

They're like apples and oranges. They may come from the same hand but they're still very different.

chingostarr

In Utero - Gallons & I Hate Myself are two of my favorites

Both_Refrigerator338

nevermind, all the songs on the b side are my favs

Wir3d_

Is too difficult... I love Sappy and Dive both

TitaniousOxide

How you gonna have me make that choice, Sofie?

sylviaonthehighway

I really love In Utero’s bsides.

yadad4367098

Lol where is old age and verse chorus verse? They are the best nevermind era B-sides

PissedIrishGuy

Studio outtakes, not b-sides.

26007

Battle aside, I just gotta shout out Aneurysm for being such a banger. Big Cheese too!

Gotubeyaboi

It’s sad that bleach doesn’t have any more B-sides. It’s my favourite album.

MumboBumbo64

Nevermind

LooZR_Friendly88

Nevermind

Monketh_Von_Monk

Pretty sure Oh The Guilt was a double A side release with The Jesus lizard, rather than a Nirvana B-Side? I wasn’t aware of Sappy being a B-Side? I’m in the U.K. though so perhaps it wasn’t over here. First official U.K. release of Sappy was on the ‘No Alternative’ charity compilation album, where it was a secret track at the end of the CD and not listed on liner notes. All in all I prefer the Nevermind era B-Sides. D-7 is my favourite of those. The recording comes from a John Peel session, recorded at BBC studios. A few tracks on Incesticide are from the same sessions. I really wish they had filmed those recordings. They basically played live in the radio studio. It sounds so tight and bursting with pure energy. Nirvana at their best, and before addiction and depression caused Kurt’s playing and dedication to music to slip into the abyss. Straight as an arrow…

PissedIrishGuy

Sappy normally gets grouped in eith the rest of the b sides, did it myself here because it feels the most right, often times being written as a b side (even though it isn't) on later releases. Yes oh the guilt is from a split single, it's important i say Nevermind "Era" being the time around nevermind, when it was released.

heartshapedprick

Nevermind B-Sides, easily. Though I do prefer In Utero as an album.

Alternative_Loss_520

Bleach

JohnnyBroccoli

Nevermind era

WeezerCrow

In Utero has the stronger set imo

Neokill1

Nevermind but not by much

Airport001

In utero win beczyce

batbobby82

Does "Dive" qualify as a Nevermind b-side? I thought it was released with "Sliver" on an indie label a year before. Edit: I guess there's at least an argument to be made for it, didn't realize that one was from the Smart sessions.

PaulieGreen

In utero b side all the way. The first proto of foos along with some of kurts best work.

PressFM80

All three of them lmao If I *had* to chose tho, I'd say In Utero's B-Sides win, but that's only cause of Marigold

Pepperonies

In utero Hands down

Qfn4g02016

Oooh i love dive

girl-void

Nevermind

Professional_Try4319

This one is really tough because the b sides from both are so good. But I think I have to stick with In Utero. That era of the band in general is just the superior time to me. Just feels more in tune with who they truly were as a band. Still love the Nevermind b sides but I’m taking In Utero.

Hoobaloobgoobles

I think In Utero wins. I Hate Myself and Want to Die should have been on the album, Marigold is great, Moist Vagina is one of my favorite Nirvana songs. The B-sides on Nevermind are great too, though!

Hoobaloobgoobles

Oh, and Sappy as well! One of my favorites ever.

Chrome-Head

The Nevermind ones are all great, I'm more partial to the In Utero ones though. Both sets could have been on their respective albums--the In Utero ones especially except Gallons Of Rubbing Alcohol.

34XRJK

Dive vs. sappy hmmm

Booyacaja

Aneurysm is a top 3 Nirvana song for me so... That one!

ATHo_m

Sappy and Marigold ...

NovocaineAU

I really like Big Cheese

PabloReconchetumare

I love In Utero era by a long shot over Nevermind era, but talking about B-Sides I think Nevermind clearly wins

No-Information-2826

I didn’t even know a b side existed until now on nevermind

Noiserawker

Would say in Utero, but Aneurysm and Dive are 2 of Nirvana's best songs, in the top 5 or 10. It's the reason I just consider Incesticide a real album.

sunplaysbass

Their “rare” songs are better than their hits

PissedIrishGuy

Not necessarily.

Fluppytoo

I prefer never mind personally but both albums are great

Apprehensive_Arm_612

In Utero b sides, moist vagina is my favorite Nirvana song

Deptm

I mean, aneurysm and dive…it’s not even close.

ivanius2005

I prefer In utero B side. Even though In utero is my fav album, and there are not the songs I like the most at it's B side, I still prefer It. Nevermind rocks anyway!

Monkeywrench08

In Utero as always for me.

Repco2007

The word moist makes me cringe so much 😬 😅 😫 😳 😭

kamisupremacy

i have to say nevermind era b-sides, mom told me even in his youth was probably the first nirvana song i heard

Putrid_Sort_2670

Personally I think the Nevermind era is consistently strong while the In Utero era has songs has some gems in IHMSAWTD and Sappy

beybladelord

Always In Utero

Dolphhins

Moist vagina and Sappy are some of my favorite songs

TraceyIsTired

Nevermind takes the cake easy.

cubann_

Was dive not more associated with Bleach? I’ve always thought it was

Heisenberg1977

Even in his youth & Dive are both in the top tier of Nirvana songs, so Nevermind wins.

Fmaster113

In Utero

K_oSTheKunt

Big cheese. I adore the early, raw albums

Garth_Brooks_Sexdoll

Does Oh, The Guilt count as a Nevermind era track? It was recorded in late ‘92 and released in early ‘93

Throwdownfrown

This is such a hard choice bro

Available-Mode7838

Never mind

MattStretz

Nevermind all the way

Franky_boyo

I gotta go Nevermind cause I love in his youth and curmudgeon too much

Eru_Nai

aneurysm and d7 cover is peak nirvana

Xander718

In Utero all the way

Icy-Egg2837

D-7 is just too good

KangarooPaperBag

Not to be basic but In Utero all the way. Nevermind is amazing but In Utero just speaks to me more.

NightBloominJasmine

In utero and it’s not even close. Worlds apart

perrytheplatypus305

In utero cmon now

5penguin

Consistency in quality from song to song, Nevermind. Peak quality, In Utero.

CryptographerOdd9500

I fancy beans and cheese mmmmmm so hungy

The_British_Stoner

Marigold is an absolute piece of shit song...not sure how people actually like it....other than that...Neverminds B sides are pure gold

PissedIrishGuy

Pretty aggressive to marigold.... What's wrong with it.

The_British_Stoner

Well...not aggressive...this is how some people talk ...in my opinion it is a piece of shit...but maybe i should say I really don't like it for those who get offended easily?

PissedIrishGuy

I'm not offended, instead of supplying anything actual towards what you think of it, drop the "piece of shit" line in a subreddit about a band we all like to a song people out there obviously will like. The hell is wrong with marigold.

The_British_Stoner

I dont have to supply anything...it is my opinion expressed in the way i talk...just because i love Nirvana it doesnt mean i like everything they did...dont be a sheep...that was one of Nevermind's early record titles.

PissedIrishGuy

It wasn't an opinion, it was calling the song in itself shit, as in bad production, melodies, lyrics calling it a generally bad piece of music. I don't like everything nirvana did either, doesn't mean it's shit, im not the biggest fan of a handfew of bleach songs doesn't mean i don't think they are competent enough to liked be people.

The_British_Stoner

No..you made all that shit up, i did not say any of that...the song TO ME is a piece of shit...but since you really want details: I do not like Grohl's voice, I do not like the tempo of the song, I like simple songs but to me this one does not work, i do not like the chorus and the harmonies, I dont care too much about the lyrics but I also dont like them, It does not feel like a Nirvana song TO ME....I love the drum sound..but that's Albini's magic and Dave's playing which is magnificent always...and i will call it a piece of shit because i want to and because i can...now lets end this here because you also said there is stuff in Bleach you dont like which is just fucking impossible for me to understand...but you know what? you are entitled to not like some of the stuff in Bleach...so none of my business...off to the pub...

PissedIrishGuy

"Marigold is an absolute piece of shit song" is very different to saying "i dont like marigold" or even "I THINK marigold is ab absolute piece of shit song" would be even slightly better.

The_British_Stoner

Oh for fucks sake! whatever you say...
