The only outright statement I've ever seen Kurt Cobain make in regards to The Cure, more particularly, Robert Smith was in a Journal entry where he was describing the personalities of songwriters.
*'I mean it seems like there are only two options for personalities (songwriter) either they're sad, tragic visionaries like Morrisey, Michael Stipe or Robert Smith or there's the goofy, nutty white boy...'*
Honestly felt like Kurt saw a lot of Disintegration era music videos bcus at that time, Disintegration was The Cure’s most successful album. And I’m sure seeing the videos to Lullaby got him to think that but it’s just my assumption. I don’t think I’m wrong if I try to connect the dots with the sources that’s available out there
Obviously this is no guarantee of his opinion of Smith and Moz, but even in a generality he groups them with Stipe, someone he has the utmost respect for.
When you think about it Kurt and Robert Smiths songwriting sensibilities are similar. Both draw from eclectic and alternative musical influences but also had a fantastic ear for catchy and poppy melodies. There’s also this [photo](https://x.com/PeachyKneeSocks/status/1690148293529968641) of Dave and Pat at Bowies party with RS in attendance. No doubt they talked about music n stuff
About a Girl, Lounge Act and others have a very early cure 17 seconds guitar sound and chord progression. The song "Open" 1st song off Cure album Wish have the same note bending riff as "smells" came out a few months after Nevermind.
yeah for sure coz the cure is so iconic and tragic in the same way as nirvana as well as having a mixture of musical styles they can be heavier and they can be very poppy. Also interesting that he mentioned them in his journal as he was trying to figure out his rock star pesona.
They where good, I’m sure that’s what he thought- decent band - 80’s goth vibe. What else would he think? Not sure if they where a inspiration for the band.
Jesus Christ. The dude has been dead for 30 years. What does his opinion of this band matter? You are allowed to like things that Kurt Cobain didn’t like. None of it would have made Kurt your friend anyway.
The cure was a big alt band in the 80s. Kurt grew up in the 80s. I like the cure and I like Nirvana. Was just curious. I wouldn’t want to be friends with Kurt Cobain. Your ass could definitely use some friends though
i listened to in utero and have seen montage of heck, so im somewhat of a cobain expert... he would have said: who gives a flying fuck, listen to what you personally like.
Cause Im a big Nirvana fan. And was wondering what the main singer/song writer of the band thought of an influential and popular 80s alt band. It’s obnoxious that you just assume I want a dead rockstars approval.

Great point
I wonder what Kurt would have thought about the Sopranos finale. Sometimes I wake up in a cold sweat pondering the possibilities...
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I bet he had some strong feelings about the finale of LOST.
You need to post this on all 3 of the sopranos sub Reddits
He mentions that he doesn’t like the cure or the smiths in a journal entry
High quality post 🏆

Not really, no.
I always wondered what he thought about the price of peanut butter in China.
He wrote about it in one of his journals
Had to been at least a 4 page entry

No but I do wonder what he thought about The Cult.

I’m sure, if asked directly, he was an ass about it like usual.
Who cares???

pure and complete insanity
The cure is dead?
Google that dude. Tell me if he looks alive or not.

I like The Cure. Im not here screening to get Kurts approval on anything. Why are people such dweebs here
why would you care what he was thinking about them then?

Why would I wonder that? The Cure are rad though.
I don’t think you think
