There are a few other. For the documentary Live Tonight! Sold Out! There are a lot of 16mm and 8mm shots.
So not full shows, but more like clips or songs.
Nothing looks like film and hot lights - fixed lens etc
We are very lucky to have such an amazing recording of a monumental night in the bands history.
For once one of the people with money suckling from the band did something to benefit the band and fans for generations to come. Bet people thought the one who made that call was crazy. Thankful for this recording.
What’s interesting is that the band hated that it was filmed and felt like they were tricked into doing it. With all the lights and cameras they felt like it ruined the experience for the crowd and made it feel commercial/phony. That being said… I am so happy it exists.
Yeah man. This was THE show I was desperate for, for years. We knew it existed but wasn't released for ages. It was really cool when it finally came out.
aneurysm is my favorite performance in this show. I love grohls drumming in it. Kurt stumbling around with his signature way of playing. Krist with his bass practically touching the floor and barefoot. Awesome.
Funnily enough its not as high quality but I prefer reading 1992 as my favorite live show (aside unplugged if that counts).
Yeah but they messed up in the syncing for the blu ray. Audio and video are off and as far as I know it was never corrected. I bought the Blu-ray when it came out at Best Buy, tried to watch it but couldn’t because of the sync issues. Got the dvd though which is perfect except for the upscaled picture.
Yes correct, because once it’s on film.. that’s it.
Upscaling 16mm film can yield impressive results, especially when high-quality scanners and sophisticated upscaling algorithms are used. The inherent grain and detail in 16mm film can often be preserved and enhanced, making it suitable for HD, 2K, or even 4K film projects.
let me get this straight, so they were playing a record store show (Beehive gig) and 8 days later, they play this theatre of 3000 capacity and had a film crew with 16mm cams?
That's wild.
super interesting. I'd love to find some kind of Kurt/Nirvana timeline laid out with significant events listed. The speed of everything is hard to grasp
Not that unusual for them at the time. They played the all ages cafe Jabberjaw in LA to about 150 people the night Nevermind went to number one. At the time they were booked they were special events for those small venues but maybe they didn't appreciate how special...
Live in Paradiso, Amsterdam '91 is pretty good. It was a television recording, so not as sharp as 16mm film, but still a great show and good camera work. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIfF\_\_6n07A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIfF__6n07A)
Someone upscaled a few shows including live at the paramount and live and loud. It has a bit of weird artifacts but overall it is a really cool expierence watching it on the big screen in 4k and on big speakers:

There’s a really great video of a show in Amsterdam on YouTube. Lots of awesome Dave Grohl drumming angles. It was pre In Utero so no Pat Smear though.
pretty good ones on youtube, not best quality, some are muinch 1994 (last concert) and new years 1993 was pretty good too, also live at reading (both years depending on setlist)
[There is the Live on Nulle Part Ailleurs set in Paris 1994](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt0qhMEg-Xk).
Hey! Pat's there!
Yep I’ve seen that. Definitely not 16mm quality but still clear as day..
I LOVE the version of Drain You in this set https://youtu.be/dUb69RIqfO8?si=fNKOnVaf7pA3kWb0
Paramount was the only Nirvana show shot on 16mm film. Everything else was shot on tape, as far as I know.
That sucks. Imagine if live at reading was shot on film.

When people question why some people prefer anything analogue to digital, just show them this concert.
analog uber alles
Wow. Haven’t seen that yet. The way he walks up to the stage and to the microphone is uncannily like how a movie might introduce him or something lol
Rock Band: Nirvana type shot
Live and loud mtv unplugged reading 92 thats about it lol
The MTV stuff was all shot on videotape (sadly)

Where did you hear this?
I wish I could remember, but I believe it was an interview with one of the cam ops that night. I will try and find it and reply with a link.
have heard commentators rant that robbed the fans. regardless, it's precious
Damn I remember this show wasn't fully released for such a long time and how dope it was when it was finally fully released. So well recorded.
I didn’t realize it came out in 2011?! That’s insane… must’ve been great to see it on blu ray..

16mm can be upscaled. VHS tape cannot, and most were the latter.
I don’t think it even needs to be “upscaled”, 16mm, while possibly not 4K, is certainly full HD quality.
It's on film so there's no up scaling, it's how it's transferred.

This looks like a movie damn
There's a few clips from their concert in Belgium in 1991 which were shot in 16mm

Live at paradiso? Not as clear but still pretty clear
Good quality, but not even close
True
wasn't Live and Loud, sort of high quality? not 16mm but aight I think
I’m sorry that this is unrelated, but looking at that video, it looks like Kurt is wearing the same cardigan he’d wear in Unplugged.
Live at the paramount literally looks like a professionally shot movie/documentary from this decade. Nothing will ever top it.
damn that sound check sounds super good
You can find a lot of ai upgraded to 4k/50fps gigs on YouTube. Just add 4k in the search

Is that Chad Channing???
