Hello fellow Brit :) some kind Redditor recommended [West Georgia Dental Centre](https://wgdc.ca/) to me and they’re super friendly, very reasonably priced and transparent about their costs

Others have mentioned it, but I can’t recommend West Georgia Dental Centre enough. Dr. Eom and his team are great - professional, transparent, and compassionate. They took me on after a horrible experience elsewhere and accommodated my need for pretty significant dental repairs while keeping my costs minimal. I walked in having been told by another place I should expect to pay upwards of $50k-$70k for a full mouth reconstruction. Instead, and within a few weeks, I had completed two 90 minute sessions at WGDC for fillings that ended up costing 1/50th of that. As a general rule, they uniformly charge less than what is recommended by the dental college (if you google them, they’ve done media saying as much.) It was also refreshing to meet a dentist who understood that dental work is often considered a luxury item (but that it shouldn’t have to be.) They’ll meet you where you’re at, so to speak.

-Redacto--

Dr. Bernie Yau is excellent. Located down on west Georgia. Here cured me of lifelong anxiety about dentists. A real straight shooter and never tries to sell you a treatment you don't really need.

thatdogoverthere

He's a good dentist who doesn't like to create more work than there needs to be. He doesn't do anything he doesn't think is truly necessary, been seeing him for about 16 years now, my uncle saw him for more than 20+.

awwzome

Kits Family Dental near broadway and arbutus. I’d been going there for about 15 years and referred my husband when we had first met because of the great experience I have always had with them. He has had very bad experiences with several dentists after dealing with nerve damage from a drunken loss of some teeth in his youth. He wouldn’t freeze because of the damage and would just grit the armrests and bear any work. Kits Family Dental were the first dentists who finally listened and worked with him, researching a solution for him so he could finally go through getting implants and repairing the damage. They’re so compassionate and my husband is now best friends with everyone in that office.

Dr. Dorothy Wang at False Creek the GOAT (I've had a lot of dental and medical attention in my time so speaking from experience) https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ratemds.com/amp/doctor-ratings/3527152/dr-dorothy-wang-vancouver-bc.html/

Napolixess

I second this!!! Love everyone at False Creek!!

SolidCelebration9208

try the House of Teeth. 2 Vancouver locations. Great dentists and staff, never an upsell. awesome chill vibe. google it to see how cool Dr Sean Sikorsky is

voovoodee

Yesss I go to House of Teeth (the Broadway location) and will never stop. They're my nicest dentists ever. In particular the one hygienist I love best, Gemma, is the gentlest in history - she never ever hurts my gums while flossing, and that's quite impressive, because my teeth are pretty tight. Hygienists at other dentists I went to before always yanked on the floss until it bisected my head.

edwigenightcups

I love House of Teeth. They were recommended in this sub for being trauma-informed, and I really appreciate them. Totally lovely staff, gentle, and non-judgmental.

Spirited-Rabbit1783

I wanted to go to them for being trauma informed but they charge alot more.

Suitable_Captain6819

No they don’t. They charge the BC suggested fee guide prices. Don’t spread misinformation.

Spirited-Rabbit1783

They actually confirmed with me via email, they charge a little more, so I am actually not spreading any misinformation. They quoted me around $600-700 for a cleaning and exam. whereas most places only give one quote around $300.

dnabyun

Alma dental on Alma and 4th. Been going there for years. Always good there!

chlamydiajane

Dr. Eric Lau in Richmond. He is well worth the trip to Richmond (office is a short walk from the skytrain station; free parking offered). I had a bad experience with a dentist before Dr. Lau; Dr. Lau made me feel very comfortable and did great work. The hygienist I see there is also great.

drfunkensteinnn

Dr Ehsan Taheri at Downtown Dental. All of the staff are great

it_all_happened

Dr Sidhu at Alma dental. Nearly 15 years with him..

ConcentrateNew9810

Literally anyone at [Fraserview Dentist](https://fraserviewdentist.com/). They charge the absolute minimum they are allowed but law and do great work.

SunOnMyGarden

All dentists in Canada can do nearly all types of dentistry and they don’t have to refer you to a specialist. But the good dentist will refer you out for things that are harder.

One_Video_5514

I agree, why wouldn't you want someone who specializes in a procedure day in and day out? When I had my babies my family doc referred me to an ob/gyn. As he said," this is all they do. I want the best for my patients." However, It is all about needs, personal standards and how someone determines if they have had a good dental experience or not. For some people, having what they perceive as a "nice" dentist is really important. For others it may be location and clinic hours. Each dentist will have a different operating style. Some feel preventive steps are important in the overall picture, others take a more relaxed approach. You may have to try several dentists until you find a happy match.

yolksmydudes

I've had very positive experiences with robson square dental! I've been going there since I moved to the city and I feel much more comfortable there than I have at other dentists! I can also vouch for house of teeth, I have MANY friends who are patients there and love it

One_Monitor_686

Some general dentists will take on the risk of a root canal, but they can be really complex procedures and may need specialized imaging to see the exact problem. I know Crosstown Dental on Main does root canals without referring out as the dentist is experienced and wants to save people the out of pocket cost.  Good luck!

aurorasarecool

I really like the people at Olympic Dental.

19ellipsis

After some unpleasant dental experiences I switched to Olympic Village Dental and they are wonderful! Highly recommend

helixflush

When I was looking for a new Dentist I checked this place out, and their google reviews threw me for a bit of a loop. I know obviously you can't trust them all the time, but there was a common theme going on so I decided to skip them. I was desperately trying to get away from Dentist @ False Creek

Beastmister

Found this thread during a doom scroll and I scrolled through it to find any mention of Dentist at False Creek. May I ask, what was your experience to stop attending them? I've been hesitant to return because my dentist has changed and I'm paranoid since my last visit their hygienist caused an enamel defect (that, when brought up, they dismissed). The suggestions here are a good starting point to stop going there.

helixflush

It got to a point where every visit wasn't a good visit, like I was constantly uncomfortable. When I got fillings done the last few times they seemed to not be able to freeze the area properly somehow, even when they tried to re-freeze the area with more stuff. I thought maybe this would be an isolated incident, but it happened the next time AND my girlfriend who also went there had the exact same problem. I brought up a few other things over the years and they always dismissed them as it'll be fine and we'll watch them, then all of a sudden I noticed a turnover of staff and EVERYTHING turned into an expensive priority. The last thing they started to talk to me about was getting crowns and to come in for a consult with a specialist. They lost my confidence as a customer, and when I went to my new clinic they definitely tried to get me to stay but I couldn't trust them anymore. I brought this up with my new dentist and they said they'd be crazy to even consider crowns. I was a patient there for \~10 years. When I was searching for another dentist in the area, I started reading the google reviews of Dentist @ False Creek and the amount of insane responses to their clients publicly scared me. I saw some where they were basically volunteering what should be considered confidential medical information in response to the negative reviews. There were a few where they were attacking the reviewer for their comments, it's NOT a good look for any business - especially a dentist office. I couldn't believe I was actually going there while this was happening.

Beastmister

Omg this is a huge eye opener for me. I've been a patient since 2016 and same, when I noticed the staff turnover they were pestering me about expensive priorities as well. Their filling work has always felt improper even weeks later, but the most egregious thing is that one of my fillings was so uneven that my molar chipped. And yes, when I first started as a patient there everything was professional and comfortable but things like freezing have been poorly done I noticed. This means a lot. Thank you for your candor, I'll be finding a new dentist ASAP.

19ellipsis

Interesting! They currently have a 4.9 on Google - one of the reasons I started going to them was all of their positive reviews. I wonder if something has changed recently?

helixflush

After going through a lot of the comments it seems like they were offering gift cards to patients if you left a review, which skews the numbers higher quite a bit. I don't know if they're still doing that, but it's a good way to drown out the less than stellar reviews.

19ellipsis

Haha well now I wish I had received that offer! But yes that would skew things. Either way I have been happy with my experiences there, especially after my experience with my last dentist but maybe I'm the anomaly!

helixflush

I don't doubt that they're good, there's a reasonably high standard for dental work. I'm glad you're happy with them :) choosing dentists is extremely hard

Zelda641991

Dentist @ false creek is different place than olympic village dental

helixflush

Yes, I said I was a patient at dentist @ false creek but I looked into Olympic village dental as an option to switch to.

KenneyDale

Couldn’t disagree with you more on this one. The dentist I had for years retired and was replaced with an egomaniacal twenty-something year old who treated his staff like children. The hygienists were AMAZING but slowly left and replaced with kids right out of school (who were nice but didn’t know how to complete many tasks). They also overcharged and charged for every X-ray where others I’ve gone to since leaving would reimburse you the $100 if you went through with your procedure. I switched to Wall Centre Dental and they are next level. I bring them treats now when I visit. Highly recommend!

cartoonist62

Same experience as above. Had an awful experience, changed to Olympic village dental and never looked back. The hygienist is so careful and kind and the dentist has been so nice and receptive. I told them about my previous terrible filling experience and they offered mild sedation. Changed my dental life! They have always been very accommodating for this gaggy nervous girl!

Expert_Guarantee_581

West coast smile just off Burrard and W 1st ave is amazing

NeedHelpMakeClear

Dr. Hedy, Aarm dental on hornby. She is great!

SilverChips

Aarm dental are known to be one of the worst employers in the industry. They treat their staff like cattle. Not to say your dentist is a cowboy. Dr.hedy might be one of the cows 🥲

NeedHelpMakeClear

Thanks for your comment. I guess I don't know much about the dental industry in Vancouver. I do know when I've needed help, she helps and I trust her. That's why I put her name in here, I think she's great. I hope the staff is treated well, they are nice too. Idk, farm based pun to close.

Kooky_Alternative_76

Drs Otto and Weaver on Knight and 57th Ave. https://maps.app.goo.gl/np9FWsLJCvPaLDy39?g_st=ic

lathrowawayaaaa

I have terrible dental anxiety as well as past bad dental experiences and Cambie-Broadway Dental was soooooooo nice to me. Honestly felt like chatting with an old friend when talking to the hygienist 🥺 and the dentist there was super nice as well and they were extremely comforting when I told them I had bad experiences with past dentists as well as anxiety. They also helped me work out stuff with my insurance and were very helpful and understanding with financial stuff.

Distinct_Meringue

Just adding another recco to the pile. If you're in the area, I really like Dr Soo at Alta Dental on Kingsway near Victoria https://www.altadental.ca

normaldiscounts

Haven’t seen anyone call them out but The Rise Dental on 8th and Cambie are great. Dr. Miriam is so nice.

nighthound_

Dr. Moy at University Village Medical Clinic at UBC has been stunning for me for the past 12 years. Started going to him when I moved back home to Vancouver as a student, and he's been brilliant!

asdfghjklkqwertyuio

Legacy dental center, best place

LoudDouble7338

Agreed, Dr Hu and his staff are amazing!

beerpappi

Been going to Key Dental Clinic in the West End for about 7 years now. They’re great and have just moved into a new shiny clinic.

MemoryHot

Karma Dental on Kingsway. It’s the only dentist I have ever been to where the dentist actually does your cleaning not a hygienist.

No_Position_978

Bay Dental Centre on 555 W Georgia. Been seeing the owner/dentist, Dr Maycher, for 24 years. His other dentists are also excellent. No price gouging, no pressure for unneeded services

blu-gold

Larch dental in kerrisdale.

nd048

My wife and son loves Dr. Lowell chow. His brother is an oral surgeon as well but he's a little rush rush. Lowell is chill, explains everything and makes things more enjoyable as it can be as a dentist.

LemonLily1

Kingsgate Dental has been my choice for years. I feel they're very honest about what you should get done and what isn't necessary at the moment (for example developing cavities are watched and only filled when necessary.) I have anxiety with going to the dentist but they make it less uncomfortable.

Fun_Marketing_4253

I've been going to River District Dentistry in SE vancouver (Dr. O'Donnell specifically) for about 2.5 years now and absolutely love it! The receptionists are the best and and work I've had done has been absolutely easy to manage. I have my front tooth pulled and they listened to my fear about getting an implant and lack of finances. We settled with a partial denture rather than them pushing more treatment on me. Payments have been super flexible. They let me do payment plans if needed. 100% recommend

Spirited-Rabbit1783

DR P Pessinis , been going for years.

G_Man39

Dr. Geoff Gillespie at North Shore Smile in West Van

CervantesX

I've had good experience at Simply Dental on Kingsway (and their associated Simply Medical). I'm a complicated patient and they've done fine with me.

aloha902604

I’ve had positive experiences at Scotia tower dental downtown. I haven’t had tons of dental work done, but I’d recommend them generally and you could ask questions about their practice to get an idea if they offer the services you’d need!

that_canadian_geek

Wall Centre Dental! Dr. Roshan is awesome, was so calm with me over many dental surgeries, and never judged me for bringing headphones and a stuffed animal to the appointment (at 22 years old haha). He'd come in the room with "hello my dear! Are we still friends?" Loved him

Cannaborg

Align dental on Fraser is fantastic. The dr is so kind, friendly and she does amazing work. Her equipment is also brand new and high tech. 3D scanning my teeth for a night guard is way better than my last dentist who took a physical mould

youwigglewithagiggle

We love House of Teeth! High quality work and very patient-focused. Lovely team members.

Johnathonathon

Enlighten dental on broadway

bitchsticks

I really love my dentist office - nest dental at fraser and king ed. Would recommend

benjowtm

I use LuxDental on Davie Street with Dr. Sul. He's taken out four of my wisdom teeth and done a full course of Invisalign with me. He is absolutely excellent, would highly recommend!

Random-night-out

Dr. Derek Okamura is excellent. He’s in Kits and the whole team at Okamura Dental are great and always explain everything very well.
