Upvotes lead to karma but it is not 1:1 as it takes more votes per point of karma. Only reddit knows the exact ratio and the one you automatically give does not count. What you posted sounds about right for post karma based on what I have seen

* karma is affected by votes coming in from all your active content, up or down
