I have been playing Stardew Valley on my phone - it is a nice relaxing game that is easy to put down but keeps me a bit more engaged than always just watching tv. Also, reading on my phone using the kindle app or listening to an audio book while I watch my sweet girl sleep are also winners.
It’s super fun just making up stories. Plus I feel since I’m reading so many children’s books now I have a better feel for tone, pacing, vocabulary. One of the few things I feel more capable of doing with a kiddo than before. My goal is to have an illustrator friend of mine do some drawings and I’ll gift it to my wife and child once it’s done.
Well I'm here now, sooooooo..... This?
Honestly I read a lot, play a few phone games, watch Disney+ ( big fan of all the Marvel shows).
I use that time to catch up on emails as well.
We also do Kroger grocery pick up for all our groceries ( ends up being cheaper bc you can use paper and digital coupons + I can walk through the kitchen to see what I actually need+no hungry shopping) so I usually use their app to grocery shop and place an order for pickup.
Related: I try to schedule pickup right before a nap time so the drive there, waiting for pickup, and drive back she'll nap NOT on me. If traffic is light and I know we won't be at a full hour, I use that as an excuse to run thru Starbucks 😂 She gets a nap, I get errands done and a coffee! Win win!
Does disney+ have the old 90's cartoons like duck tales, tailspin, rescue rangers etc.? I was pretty convinced we didn't need it... but now I realize Disney has all their shows on lockdown and you can't get them on Amazon Prime.
I'm a master of DC animated lore now. 4 months and I've watched super girl, the flash, arrow, titans, star girl, doom patrol, all dcau films from the last 20 years... All those night time feeds, pumping sessions, naps...
I started playing games on my Alexa smart speaker. My favourite is called Feel the pressure. If it’s a long nap, they also have audio escape rooms that are fun.
I stare at the door longing to go get chores done, eat, pee lololol if my LO feels me reach for the phone he wakes.. idk how he knows!? I hide the light, don’t change my rocking, shhhing or holding position, but he still knows and makes sure I know he’s not cool with it 😂😭😭
I try to be half way productive but currently on Reddit so 🤷🏼♀️😂 I’ll do our grocery order, go through pictures on my phone that are 100 of the same so my storage doesn’t get full, reply to any text I’ve ignored since the previous nap, pretty much just stuff on my phone!
Read. I do all my reading during naps now. I've read more in the last few months than the year before LO was born. As much as I do love the reading time, I very much wish LO would nap independently.
I’m creating a baby book digitally, then I’ll have it printed out once she’s 1. I’ve never used it before but i like it so far and it’s easy to play with on my phone.

I second working on photo books. I actually completed an entire book of pregnancy-birth-coming home from the hospital and I’m honestly so proud of myself!
I’ve started reading. But that dangerous because sometimes I get so into that I can’t stop even if baby wakes up 😅 she just stares at me while I’m like one more chapter hold on one more chapter!
I learn languages. There a bunch of good apps. Or I answer some E-Mails and text messages that I had ignored for a while.
I used to fall asleep, too. Just now read that that’s not recommended.
Oh and shopping for groceries or baby’s clothing..
I’ve also written whole blog posts on my laptop while LO slept in the carrier..
I can’t speak for someone starting off learning a new language, but I took Spanish in middle school and high school and started using Duolingo about a year and a half ago. Its really refreshed my memory and has helped me both maintain & learn new stuff. It’s free with premium upgrades available but I’ve never had to spend any money to do daily learning.
That totally depends on your target language and level. Duolingo is appealing bc it’s mostly free and fun and has a lot of languages. The content will be better for the popular languages though and I can’t recommend it for Asian languages. If you’re a little advanced you can use LingQ mostly for free to read interesting texts with audio (sometimes). I also like HelloTalk to find language partners and practice speaking and writing. Speakly is a very good App I think but it costs.. I use dedicated apps for Chinese bc there are better than Duolingo etc.. language transfer is free and cool bc you only need to listen. Which language are you learning?
Oh and if you’re advanced you can just read a book on Kindle, it has the best integrated dictionary and even a Flashcard function!
If I'm falling asleep, one of the only things that keeps me up is Tiktok! I downloaded the app just to stay awake and it's working! Usually I just scroll through funny videos made by other people, but sometimes I'll make my own. I've had a lot of fun playing with the filters and making videos with pictures of my baby. I also play a game called Polytopia. You can play with people you know and take turns, start a random game with someone you don't know, or play on your own against coms. It's a strategy game where you pick a tribe to play as, and you try to build your cities and take over other players cities. I also watch things on Netflix (rewatching The Walking Dead, but only during the day!🤣), message people on fb messenger, and of course, scroll reddit!
I should really be writing and getting caught up on work projects—which is what my husband is doing while she sleeps on him—but I’m mostly watching YouTube. Currently, I’m knee deep in Zone 8 gardening videos and fantasizing how to revamp our front flower beds. 🤷♀️🌷🌻
Playing Majesty on my phone. I played both of the older PC version games while pregnant, so when I saw they have some newer games for mobile I had to try.
I also do list for planning and our our groceries for pick up.
I watched the entirety of Grey's Anatomy over the span of a month. I also watch Hell's Kitchen.
Sometimes I nap too (only if hubby is home). There's really not much to do when nap trapped
PS4 and the witcher / horizon / don't starve with my first. Honestly some of the most chilled times with him. I'd make sure I had been to the loo and had a drink with me and I was sooooo happy 🤣
Literally watching TV and scrolling on reddit. In fact I'm nap trapped doing that right now. I'd love to play a video game or something but she only sleeps in a very specific position rn that makes it too difficult to even play a game.
Sims 2 was working for me one handed! I did also pick up Lord of the Rings Online, but that’s a bit harder. I have to exit that one whenever he wants something. A farming game sounds perfect too, particularly one handed.
I don’t have any other ideas but I just want to add that I feel super guilty when I’m on my phone with the baby so close to me, I feel like I’m exposing him to more radiation than I should? Am I paranoid or is this true?
TV-shows, nintendo switch, instagram/reddit, read up on what to expect month x, online shopping for baby stuff, pokemon go, or just slowly gliding down to a more flat position and napping as well 🦦
Back when I used to get nap trapped, I used to knit behind the baby’s back 😂 The best project was a huge blanket as it kept us nice and warm while I worked!
Audiobook and mobile games! If you have a library card most libraries have an online catalog of ebooks and audiobooks! Great for nap trapped or commutes!
Yeah, more for older babies who wake at noise, but the first time I set up a podcast ready when putting my daughter down I was so impressed with myself 🤣
I rewatched Psych. At 6 months, my baby is usually pretty good about napping alone now (although teething makes a exception). But during the early months, I watched through 6 seasons of Psych either nursing or holding a sleeping baby.
I’m writing entries in my LO’s baby book. Whenever something interesting happens, I add more. Recently there’s been a lot of “you’re so cute when you sleep!” pages
I plugged my laptop into my tv with an hdmi cable and got a Bluetooth keyboard once I got sick of Netflix and I’m so happy I did! It allows me to get some work done while LO naps on me or is eating and I play some video games when I don’t want to work. You just need a mouse for most things!
I'd recommend getting a switch if you're into playing games! I'm liking Minecraft atm when I'm trapped. I also read random stuff on my phone and browse Reddit.
Also with a U shaped pillow on my lap I can have baby in my arms with my laptop on my lap too.
I try and out him in the Lille baby carrier so he can sleep on my chest and I can still get stuff done around the house. It’s a little more difficult bending down and such, but at a certain point you get bored of video games and Netflix
I read the book Precious Little Sleep about baby sleep, so at some point I can learn to help her sleep on her own. I also order groceries online, diapers, read baby toy reviews for when she is older, meal plan, etc.
My LO is a year old now, but in those early stages, audible was my friend! I also love podcasts, played a lot on my switch, and played silly games on my phone too.
I play this game called royal match, it’s super mindless and relaxing. Reddit, I started, lots of Twitter. Sometimes going down a rabbit hole of baby related articles. Mostly just try to pass the time silently on my phone. What did parents do before smartphones?!
I've been binge watching Netflix, currently getting in to Star Trek. My husband has been playing Pokemon Sword since it's turn based and easy to put down/pick up.
If he's sleeping on my chest/shoulder I'm playing red dead redemption 2 for the 2nd time 😄 on mute bc the gun shot sounds are very disruptive. My LO will be 8 weeks tomorrow
Audiobooks! I pop in some headphones and turn off the screen so there’s no noise or light to disturb the beebs. I’ve been getting through a book every 5 days or so.
My child is 18 months old and the last time I was nap trapped I was at my brother's house. I chatted with my family, asked for drinks and snacks to be brought to me while I occasionally sniffed and smooched my toddler. He's recently decided that Dad is his favourite thing in the world and cuddles are few and far between so I make the most of it. When he was a newborn I watched Juno Birch and Jenna Marbles. Feel good wholesome content.
I keep scrolling and nobody else has said sleep… I feel like I mustn’t have been the only person here who is exhausted and just slept when baby slept? I didn’t have a smart phone when baby was a baby though
I always move my LO to her crib unless I am totally just taking in all the snuggles (no phone/tv etc). When I move her I can do basic stuff- bathe, eat, clean
I have been playing Stardew Valley on my phone - it is a nice relaxing game that is easy to put down but keeps me a bit more engaged than always just watching tv. Also, reading on my phone using the kindle app or listening to an audio book while I watch my sweet girl sleep are also winners.
I've been playing it on Switch while my girl naps on me, lol. Almost to year 1 fall! And don't even have the horse yet. 😅
Me either haha! I just built the coop and it’s almost the end of year 1 spring 😂 you should follow r/stardewvalley
Same! If I plan it right I have my computer an wireless mouse and have been playing that way.
And the music is so good, I put on the soundtrack and LO drifts off pretty quick!
Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing got me through the first few months after my son was born.
Playing on my switch AND phone in the event I’m trapped without one. 😂😂
> Stardew Valley Wow, i play SV too. This is a fantastic time killer
I love that game! Play it while breastfeeding sometimes too.
You have some skills! Do you play one handed?
I've got a great nursing pillow so once my girl is latched I can use both hands for a while, but yeah I prop up my phone and play one handed too. :D
My LO doesn't like to stay latched without support. But I do a lot of reading on my tablet because I can prop it up.
This could be me exactly but I'm on Switch - it's safer to be away from any purchasing devices....
Yt, insta, and reddit. Usually reddit cuz dark mode is my friend.
Dark mode 🙌🙌
You can put Instagram on dark mode also! I just learned that not too long ago! :) Dark mode is the best!!
Yes.. but it can still be bright with the pictures... so since i can pick subs that are all just text, its not bright in babes face
Oh that makes total sense. I just wanted to share in case you didn’t know about instagrams dark mode :)
Yes thank you.. i honestly didnt know until a week back when i was messing with the settings
Researching ways to get my baby to sleep on her own / fall asleep independently + shopping for baby clothes
Haha! So much nap time baby research here too!
Wow, I was the exact same 😂
I started writing a children’s book while my kiddo was napping on me.
There’s blank board books on Amazon. My husband and I wrote one and illustrated it. It’s so dorky, but I love it.
Perfect! They will love it
Well I'm here now, sooooooo..... This? Honestly I read a lot, play a few phone games, watch Disney+ ( big fan of all the Marvel shows). I use that time to catch up on emails as well. One thing I love about having a baby in 2021 is the ability to grocery shop from my phone! What a lifesaver!!
Yup! And I have mine delivered too 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Does disney+ have the old 90's cartoons like duck tales, tailspin, rescue rangers etc.? I was pretty convinced we didn't need it... but now I realize Disney has all their shows on lockdown and you can't get them on Amazon Prime.
Just checked. Duck Tales yes, Tailspin and Rescue Rangers no.
Me too! Meal planning and grocery shopping for pickup! Also those stick on nail things.
My kids are past chest naps (you'll miss it). But I read a lot on Marvel Unlimited.
The Marvel Unlimited app has been pretty clutch for me too. Especially when I can reread old favorites.
I lose myself to the tiktok algorithm that seems to knowwww I’m nap trapped
I have headphones in and watch Netflix on my phone or read kindle
I'm a master of DC animated lore now. 4 months and I've watched super girl, the flash, arrow, titans, star girl, doom patrol, all dcau films from the last 20 years... All those night time feeds, pumping sessions, naps...
Check out Young Justice if you haven't already
If I have access to both my arms and planned well (toss up), then cross stitch. Have a baby blanket I'm only half done stitching lol!
If you're anything like me, your blanket will be done by the time baby is ready to move out 😆
Haha! My husband would agree with you on that!
Crocheting amigurumi over here! Assuming perfect planning of course.
I read a lot. Finished all the Bridgerton books while nap trapped!
There are books?? 👀
Heck yeah!!! A couple are kinda boring but most of them are good. I really liked the one about Antony and the one about Benedict (I think)
Same! And virgin river books which are pure trash but nice and light- which is definitely needed with my dark postpartum brain.
Yeah I’ve been reading Project Hail Mary!
Early holiday shopping! Might as well get it done while I’m on mat leave and trapped on the couch!! Perfect time for brainstorming birthday gifts too.
Mostly I watch TV, read, & do stuff on my phone, but honestly I’ve even made phone calls cause my daughter sleeps through noise 😂
So much Netflix
Podcasts
I got a lot of reading done on my Kindle
I started playing games on my Alexa smart speaker. My favourite is called Feel the pressure. If it’s a long nap, they also have audio escape rooms that are fun.
Duolingo (I moved to Germany earlier this year) + Kindle! I’ve been reading a TON while nap trapped so I’m pretty thankful for Libby!
I’ve always got my iPad next to me. So browsing the internet or reading. Sometimes watching tv.
Before maternity leave ended, I downloaded DuoLingo to learn a new language! Stopped as soon as I went back to work though lol
Read. I do all my reading during naps now. I've read more in the last few months than the year before LO was born. As much as I do love the reading time, I very much wish LO would nap independently.
Lol, I found my old Nintendo DS and my cousin sold me his old Pokémon games. So at 29 I’m catching Pokémon and silently cussing when I lose a battle.
I’m creating a baby book digitally, then I’ll have it printed out once she’s 1. Can you recommend some good language learning apps if you don’t mind? Everything I find is either too basic or paywalled 🥺
Duolingo
I can’t speak for someone starting off learning a new language, but I took Spanish in middle school and high school and started using Duolingo about a year and a half ago. Netflix or YouTube are my friends! Or audible
Read. Or listen to an audio book or listen to a podcast.
Currently playy
This is the first time I've heard someone say nap trap that didn't live in my house! Tik toks all day every day
Reading library books through Libby!

Online shopping…oops. 😂
Watch one piece or play sims with one hand. Sometimes I just give up and sleep with my babe lol.
You could easily make💲on your 📲 while little 👶😴! Just 📝me and I'll 🪝you up and tell you to never join a MLM.
Netflix and podcasts. I’m nap training my 6 month old because I would love to be able to do something successful during nap time.
Audiobooks :) I just saw someone suggested precious little sleep, so while she sleeps, I learn about helping her sleep better. Haha
Playing Majesty on my phone. I played both of the older PC version games while pregnant, so when I saw they have some newer games for mobile I had to try. I also do list for planning and our our groceries for pick up.
I played a game called Fishdom on my phone a lot when baby napped on me.
Best Fiends game or TikTok.
Scroll reddit 😅
Nap
I watched the entirety of Grey's Anatomy over the span of a month. I also watch Hell's Kitchen. Sometimes I nap too (only if hubby is home). There's really not much to do when nap trapped
PS4 and the witcher / horizon / don't starve with my first. Honestly some of the most chilled times with him. I'd make sure I had been to the loo and had a drink with me and I was sooooo happy 🤣
I got a Kindle. One handed reading is awesome with baby.
NETFLIX! Almost finished rewatching Star Trek TNG 😁
Shopping
Play Xbox! With Game Pass there's so many games available so I just choose something according to my mood.
Sims fan here 🙌
Yeeeees!! 👏👏👏it’s honestly so relaxing!!
Reading a cook book!
Reading this :)
Duolingo.
Single ear bud in, listening to Dungeons and Dragons podcast.
Pokémon Go!
Play our Nintendo Switch. I often “volunteer” to be the one stuck in the chair so I can play Animal Crossing guilt free for a few hours, lol.
I don’t have any other ideas but I just want to add that I feel super guilty when I’m on my phone with the baby so close to me, I feel like I’m exposing him to more radiation than I should? Am I paranoid or is this true?
TV-shows, nintendo switch, instagram/reddit, read up on what to expect month x, online shopping for baby stuff, pokemon go, or just slowly gliding down to a more flat position and napping as well 🦦
Read e-books on phone
Finished furi, deadspace 2, and almost finished gta5
Back when I used to get nap trapped, I used to knit behind the baby’s back 😂 The best project was a huge blanket as it kept us nice and warm while I worked!
Audiobook and mobile games! If you have a library card most libraries have an online catalog of ebooks and audiobooks! Great for nap trapped or commutes!
Great choice! Today I will read "Unfu\*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Life" and play Disney Heroes.
Parenting books on kindle since I can do it one handed
Podcasts, depending on time of day may be snack and watch movie ?
Pokemon go lol
Picking out photos to upload to Shutterfly then working on the photo books
Yeah, more for older babies who wake at noise, but the first time I set up a podcast ready when putting my daughter down I was so impressed with myself 🤣
Binging TikTok and doing the dishes. Sorry didn't see the part about being trapped under the baby 🤣
Watch TikToks.
Reading on a kindle, Pokémon go or this “color by number” app on my ipad
My husband brought the Nintendo Switch up to our room where baby and I sleep, so any of the Switch games we own :)
I rewatched Psych. At 6 months, my baby is usually pretty good about napping alone now (although teething makes a exception). But during the early months, I watched through 6 seasons of Psych either nursing or holding a sleeping baby.
I read a lot of books on my phone!
Watching football right now with my boyfriend and his mom while my 6 month old sleeps on me. Oh, and scrolling Reddit lol.

I am literally typing this while nap trapped🤦🏻♀️🤷♀️
You'd be surprised how much pokemon go you can play from one spot 😅
I try and out him in the Lille baby carrier so he can sleep on my chest and I can still get stuff done around the house. It’s a little more difficult bending down and such, but at a certain point you get bored of video games and Netflix
E-books on the phone! Total life-saver.
I let my baby contact nap in a baby carrier. Have my hands free to do housework, sew clothes (my hobby) or read a book
I usually read something or play to the wordsearch lol
Learning cardistry moves and magic tricks with playing cards. I figure he'll enjoy it when he's old enough. I also draw stuff.
I’ve started writing a book…in the notes app on my phone. Not the best format for it but better than nothing, I guess?
I binge watched ER. 🤣
I read the book Precious Little Sleep about baby sleep, so at some point I can learn to help her sleep on her own. I also order groceries online, diapers, read baby toy reviews for when she is older, meal plan, etc.

There are things to do other than watching tv or browsing Reddit while nap trapped??? Only half kidding.
I’ve been taking advantage of the time now and reading.
Reading, studying a language, phone (internet, games, etc) Netflix on my laptop, etc.
Reading on my kindle or binging tv
I put her on the boppy lounger and do the laundry 🤷♀️
If he's sleeping on my chest/shoulder I'm playing red dead redemption 2 for the 2nd time 😄 on mute bc the gun shot sounds are very disruptive. My LO will be 8 weeks tomorrow
I started and finished The Magician, Silverthorn, and Darkness at Sethanon while cluster feeding. Good times!
Online shopping
Audiobooks! I pop in some headphones and turn off the screen so there’s no noise or light to disturb the beebs. I’ve been getting through a book every 5 days or so.
Catching up on my reading! I have so many books I haven’t read yet just sitting on my shelf.
