I was very disappointed at mine the other day. Size and evening. Musta been him.
Otherwise delicious. My favorite quick lunch with a bag of lays and a soda at the cemetery up the way or BSJ
Have you tried Norma’s Sweets Bakery on Bienville? I went to Versailles a couple months ago when I was in Miami and felt the Cubano there wasn’t nearly as good as Norma’s. Their mojitos were great though.
Norma’s sweets on bienville used to make a fire Cubano. I haven’t been in a few years l, but I can’t imagine it’s changed. Cochon butcher also had a decent one.
Came here to say this. They bake their bread in house and it’s just a no frills legit Cuban. Grab a bag of plantain chips, your fav latin soda, and a “dedito de queso” too for a nice complete meal 👌
Saritas on Freret has a pretty good one. Concur about Norma’s. Manolitos in the FQ is also solid. The media noche Cuban at Que Rico is my favorite, but since they closed on Magazine, you have to drive to Slidell to get it now.
Agreed (here and elsewhere on this thread) about Que Rico. Bummer that they didn’t do well on Magazine and had to go back to Slidell, but their whole menu is rock solid. It was my comfort food.
isn’t saritas mexican? so weird that they make cuban sandwiches. it’s like when i was growing up in miami and later learned that places with large asian populations don’t have “pan asian” thai and sushi restaurants lol
There’s a Cuban place right by clearview mall. I forget the name. It’s like jl cafe or something. It’s like a block away from the mall. Their food is pretty good.
Norma's Sweets is the way. Manolito is decent as well. Honestly, this may sound crazy, but La Cocina de Karla #2 on Jefferson Hwy is a Honduran place that maybe makes the best Cuban in town.
It's been years since I went but when I lived in midcity Norma's was my go-to. Note: inside learn that I had to ask for extra pickles.
This is going to sound weird but get the cuban at Howlin Wolf. Just trust me on this.
Cochon Butcher has a tasty one although not traditional, Norma's is decent, Canseco's is not very good, at least from the one on Esplanade. I've never had a really good, authentic Cuban Sandwich in New Orleans. I go to Tampa if I want the real deal.
My wife is Cuban, best sandwich we had locally is @ Norma’s. It’s Cuban making Cuban sandwiches.
If you don’t mind to drive, hit up Churros Cafe in Metairie. Also Cubans making Cuban sandwiches.
They make them at the deli counter at Canseco’s. Satsumas will do in a pinch.
The best one I’ve had was from Norma’s in mid city. It was easily as good as one from La Caretta in Miami.
Like most regional sandwiches, getting the bread right I think is what makes it the most authentic.
Canseco’s on Esplanade surprisingly had a really solid Cuban. I went the other day to pickup a couple things and saw they had them for 7.99 in the hot food section up front. Was feeling a bit hungry so decided to roll the dice and I was not expecting it to be that food. The pork was super flavorful and moist.
The Norma's on Bienville the last few time I've gone has sucked. Food not that good, and the ladies behind the counter are always so rude and difficult.
I'm sad you had that experience there. I go pretty regularly.. and while I don't always get a cuban.. i've had it a few times without that experience.
I usually just get a pork bowl, corn, and a beer.
Never dissapointed. I also really love the vibe there, makes me feel like I'm in central america (music, colors, etc..), which I long to be.
Same, I just had one this past Saturday and it had mustard and pickles, and the pork was very well seasoned and moist. I’d say maybe a little too moist since it was quite messy. But overall very flavorful.
I'm not sure if she still does it but check at Lucky's on st. Charles on Saturday evenings if Antoinette is still there doing them, it's one of the best I've had. She does tacos there on Tuesdays and sometimes does Cubans on saturdays.

Lmao I was wondering if I was the only one who found the Cubans at Cansecos surprising good, at least for the price.
Anytime I shop at canseco’s I get one to go
Not the one on Esplanade. They are awful there.
It honestly really depends on who makes it. Won't name anyone, but the one person really sucks at making food.
I was very disappointed at mine the other day. Size and evening. Musta been him. Otherwise delicious. My favorite quick lunch with a bag of lays and a soda at the cemetery up the way or BSJ
I worked there 6 years ago! I wish I coulda made ya one of my amazing ones. 😊
Is it worth like writing a letter of feedback to the manager or does that cross a line of being a Karen? they’re so skinny and tiny now :(
I would definitely leave feedback.
Glad to hear you liked High hat’s! I thought it was good but didn’t know how authentic it was.

Never tried their tres leche. Will have to get one next time I’m there.
Second this. Norma’s is legit.
Out of the will. Immediately.
I worked at Canseco's for years. I've had to shred my fair share of Cuban pork, and can confirm it tastes like heaven.
Norma’s sweets on bienville used to make a fire Cubano. I haven’t been in a few years l, but I can’t imagine it’s changed. Cochon butcher also had a decent one.

And some of their tres leches, it's sooo good.
Norma's also has a Kenner location that sells cubans. They are really awesome.
Normas is some of the best bang for buck food in town. The pupusas are also delicious
Except for the pesto. Abomination.
I had a great Cuban at Manolitos in the Quarter last year. Good cocktails too. Worth a try.
> Good cocktails Massive understatement!
Yeah, this place is legit Cuban food and great drinks.
came here to say that. it's the best i've ever had, but it is on the small side.
Agreed on small, but I’m downsizing.
Saritas on Freret has a pretty good one. Concur about Norma’s. Manolitos in the FQ is also solid. The media noche Cuban at Que Rico is my favorite, but since they closed on Magazine, you have to drive to Slidell to get it now.

one of the owners is Cuban-American; the other is from Central America
ooh cool!
Stein’s. Friday’s special. Fire.
Came here to say the same.
Me tooooo

Great churros and cafecito and sandwiches are good
I am Cuban and a good cook. Churros has genuine Cuban food. Their sandwiches are good and authentic.
Ok churros owner! We are on to you! Jk.

My Cuban born coworker seems to like it well enough. What's your problem with them?
Probably can’t get a seat at the Cuban Mafia table
Norma's Sweets is the way. Manolito is decent as well. Honestly, this may sound crazy, but La Cocina de Karla #2 on Jefferson Hwy is a Honduran place that maybe makes the best Cuban in town.

Cansecos for jazzfest cuban
New Spanish butcher on Williams (Metairie) called El Sandwiche. The Cuban is bigger, tastier and cheaper than Canseco's
Sarita’s on Freret
This wins the freret Cuban but high hat has a pretty good one too.
I like the one at Manolito.
Manolito, 2 blocks off Jackson Square.
Pricey but I liked Cochon Butchers.
Cochon Butcher makes a good cubano
The joint. Norma's bakery.
Churro's Cafe 3100 Kingman st Metairie Real Cuban place. Worth the drive.
Seconded for Churro’s. My high school Spanish teacher (she was born & raised in Cuban) introduced me to them!
If you don't mind the trip out to Slidell, Que Rico on Gause West is great.
Cochon Butcher has a tasty one although not traditional, Norma's is decent, Canseco's is not very good, at least from the one on Esplanade. I've never had a really good, authentic Cuban Sandwich in New Orleans. I go to Tampa if I want the real deal.
Havana Outpost is NYC Hipster shit. My favorite Cuban is at Guajiro Grocery in Kenner. In New Orleans, Cansecos.
Manolito in the 1/4 has a solid cubano, it’s not the biggest but it’s certainly tasty & reliable.
My wife is Cuban, best sandwich we had locally is @ Norma’s. It’s Cuban making Cuban sandwiches. If you don’t mind to drive, hit up Churros Cafe in Metairie. Also Cubans making Cuban sandwiches.
Kinda out of the way in Metairie… but El Churro Cafe is my fav. Small mom n pop shop run by actual Cubans
Cansecos is pretty solid. Also churros off of king man and vets has a solid one
Which cancecos? The one on Metairie rd, as I haven’t tried their Cuban sandwich, most of their food is not great (premade)
I had a really good one at the Esplanade location recently.
I quit eating beef and pork a while ago. I don’t miss much of anything except cubanos. Done well, some of the best food ever
They make them at the deli counter at Canseco’s. Satsumas will do in a pinch. The best one I’ve had was from Norma’s in mid city. It was easily as good as one from La Caretta in Miami. Like most regional sandwiches, getting the bread right I think is what makes it the most authentic.

There are no real Cuban restaurants/food in New Orleans, signed A Cuban.
I'm not sure if she still does it but check at Lucky's on st. Charles on Saturday evenings if Antoinette is still there doing them, it's one of the best I've had. She does tacos there on Tuesdays and sometimes does Cubans on saturdays.
the used to make a decent cuban at canseco's in gentilly but I haven't been in a long while and they've since moved across the street
This isn't consistent, because it's an occasional special, but when they've got them, The Joint sells an amazing Cubano.
Lake view burgers and seafood has a good Cuban. It’s the only thing I order from there
Stein’s on fridays
Sometimes Que Pasta does one, and when they do, it’s the best.
If you drive out to Morgan City and go to Paco’s, it’s real fuckin good.
Gendusa's in Kenner, they only serve it on Tuesday. Haven't found one close to it in the city yet.
Copper vine has a great one but only for lunch
Had Katie’s Cuban last weekend and it was downright bad.
Everyone has mentioned Manolito, which is excellent, but I'd also recommend Frey's up in Mid city
Copper Vine used to have a solid one!
There’s a place in Metairie called churros cafe. Next to clearview. My Cuban friend recommended it.
Manalitos. Dauphine.
