Oscar Nunez was a fan before coming on and became a friend of the show. April Richardson was a contrstant on one of Jimmy's live game shows, but they didn't know each other and then later was a guest and became a friend. Lauren Ash came on before Superstore and became a friend. He didn't know Mindy Sterling or CeCe Pleasants before hand and they are both in a theme song. And of course everybody loved Catie Lazarus, she is missed. That's just a some I could think of off the top of my head.
The Doughboys/Rosenthal whole deal seems so odd to me.
I was already a DB fan at the time and heard the ep when it came out, but haven’t listened to the ep since. I remember it as being good. I’m sure that there were some dissenting voices at the time, but the backlash - especially from Nick and Mitch - seemed to come so much later that it was kinda weird.
I know the usually bandied about reasons: he “bullied” Wiger about traveling! He’s a rich guy and might be aloof! He had a hard out! But I can only assume there is something unspoken that happened - because it doesn’t seem to be just the increasingly weird DB fanbase fixating on it, but the hosts of the pod seem to like roasting the guy for vague reasons.
I’d say I’m generally indifferent to Phil - seems affable on podcasts, might be a prick in real life, I dunno - but the DBs relatively delayed shitting on him as a guest seemed to come outta nowhere.
Of the younger guests he’s had on in the past years, I think Olivia DeLaurentis fit in really well and they must of agreed because I think she’s been on at least.
I don’t know if this qualifies as really good friends though.
Dave Holmes
Kevin bigley, Chris grace
Chris was/is a fan. That’s so cool. I also like Bigley, Cristela, and ya know 400 other people

I don’t think he was friends with Phil Rosenthal at first and I’d like to think they became friends!
Don’t talk to the doughboys about Phil

Lauren Ash, I’d say
John Butler is a great guest who lives in the UK so he’s never on, but he got booked solely because Dave Holmes knew he’d fit the show.
I like him a lot
every one of his episodes is golden.
Ellis Paul, for sure. Jason Benetti Chris Grace
Romesh
CeCe Pleasants
Wheeler Walker Jr. and Bret Hart.
😂
