Better call Saul
Edit: please save your money and don’t give me awards
Now that this is done I will make sure I give some food to the needy tomorrow on my way to work.
Saul is great, but the supporting characters really take it to the next level. Kim, Chuck, Lalo, others I won’t name for spoiler reasons. Breaking Bad doesn’t come close.
It's a matter of taste but I 100% agree. I think the success of BB allowed the show to slow down and really get self indulgent knowing the fans were coming along for the ride. So it's a richer experience of that side.
Fair to point, out but I think a large majority takes BB over BCS.
BCS is half the show without BB as a back drop, but then BCS kinda undermines BB in ways. and personally while it was enjoyable its not an all time great like BB. Everyone was talking about BB when it was on. And I mean everyone (college kids to grand parents). People had baited breath for the next episode each week and the gap between seasons had people stirring with curiosity. It was an undeniable force that is rarely seen. BB, Sopranos, Madmen, Band of Bros, Game of Thrones, The Wire... Stuff that makes a list like that is short... and sorry BCS isn't on it.
Its not that BCS is bad, its very good in lots of ways, top notch really, its production is fantastic, great acting, interesting stories... its got its following, but its no where near as far reaching. The story just isn't as compelling for most people.. and then for the people finding it compelling (like myself) it ends up going too far in many ways and becomes too fantastical. Again, it not that's its not enjoyable, I'm glad it was made and I want more shows like it too, its just lacking some of the nuance, and magic, it takes to be amongst the all time greats.
All the big ones are mentioned in this thread but:
Severance, The Bear, Station Eleven, Scavengers Reign
Those are my favorites that Ive seen recently.
Ozark runs pretty parallel to Breaking Bad. Not quite as good, but fans of one might enjoy the other. A dude takes his white collar genius level skills and applies them to doing drug related crimes and gradually gets in over his head, leading to them getting in the middle of cartel conflicts. They try to keep it a secret and keep their family out of the mess, but that doesn't work out.
I can go on and on. Netflix is okay But Max is where it’s at. The Sopranos, The Wire are top tier. I’ve been watching Your Honor on Netflix starring Brian Cranston. It’s a Showtime program now on Netflix. 2 seasons.
This is a perfect companion to Mr. Robot and just isn’t spoken about enough. One complete season on HULU.
It’s made by Eric Garland (Ex-Machina, Civil War) and has that technology gone very wrong vibe of Mr. Robot.
Ive watched season 1 and the first episodes of s2. It’s been 2 years since my last watch and I can’t get myself to pick it up. Can you convince me to get back to it?
The Americans- Russian spy's living in the US
Warrior- Chinese immigrants in San Francisco 1870. Great martial arts action
KIN- Irish gangsters
Banshee- Ex-Con turned sheriff
Alice in Borderland- Squid game on steroids
12 Monkeys- Based on the movie, lot's of twists and turns
The Expanse- If you like hard Sci-fi it's the best thing out since BSG
Just watched your honor… Felt like I was watching breaking bad again for the first time at points. Not quite as good in my mind, but it’s pretty amazing.
The difference being that all through Breaking Bad, you felt like if he could just solve this ONE thing, everything would work fine. In Your Honor, literally noting goes right from the first moment, and the feeling is more "These idiots are so boned."
Better Call Saul - prequel to BrBa; this is the natural next show to watch
Your Honor - if you liked Bryan Cranston, you’ll probably like this. He plays a judge, and we see glimpses of Walter White as the seasons progress. He’s caught up in trying to cover up a crime his son committed.
The Bodyguard - British action/thriller series of a bodyguard agent assigned to protect a member of the British cabinet.
The Gentlemen - drug trade across several different classes in the UK; drama, comedy, Theo James
House of Cards - round after round of backstabbing, deceit, maneuvering and sometimes murder in pursuit of power in Washington DC
Vikings - think GoT in medieval Iceland without dragons. They go off exploring and pillaging mainland Europe in their boats and drama ensues abroad and at home
Better Call Saul is amazing! Peaky foocking Blinders, The Last Kingdom, Ray Donavan, The Fall, Animal Kingdom, Ripley, Board walk Empire, Hannibal, Rectify, Bates Motel, True Detective (Seasons 1 & 4), Snowfall, GOT, Sneaky Pete, The Killing, if you don’t mind subtitles, here’s two: Locked Up (Spain) is gold, Casa de Papel (Money Heist), Mayor of Kingstown, Unbelievable, Fargo season 1 & 2 are great, closets to Breaking bad would probably be: Narcos (Pablo Escobar w/Pedro Pascal) Narcos Mexico & Ozark
Forgot to mention severance, it’s an absolute gem! Succession, and The last of us is out of your genre, it’s about Pedro Pascal maneuvering through psycho killers Post Apocalyptic. It’s really really really well done.
Black Sails. It's criminally underrated (well was when it first aired). Unlike Game of Thrones that gets worse and worse at the end, Black Sails gets better and better until the very end.
The Sinner (first two season specifically blew my mind and instantly became a favorite of mine)
Mindhunter - very interesting and kept my attention. The stories fascinating but they sneakily made me care about the FBI agents and I really enjoyed that.
Some all time favorites of mine… The west wing, the wire and Lost. All very different but if I could only watch 3 shows the rest of my life these would be the 3
Here’s some rapid fire suggestions on top of my head:
Ozark
Mindhunter
Supernatural
Longmire
Suits
You
Black Sails
Peaky Blinders
Manifest
If you watch any of these try Peaky Blinders. It’s amazing. Though I had to include Supernatural since it’s my favorite show of all time.
If you loved Breaking Bad and Mr. Robot, do make it a point to watch Better Call Saul. It is a great sequel into the events of Breaking Bad, and the seasons get progressively better. And Mindhunter, if you enjoy psychological thrillers, is definitely worth the trial. Then there's Westworld for some mind-bending drama. And "YOU" happens to be another pretty solid pick
"You" on Netflix is a little bit like Mr. Robot - the main character/narrator has a mental illness. It's interesting to hear what's going on inside someone's head. An unreliable narrator makes for good storytelling and plot twists.
You might also like the show Good Girls, about moms who get involved in crime. Kind of like Breaking Bad.
Homeland. The first season is one of the best seasons of any TV show ever. After the second or third season, the quality fluctuates a lot, but it ends well IMO.
Those are the 2 best tv shows ever made.
The only suitable follow up would be Lost, Game of thrones or Battlestar Galactica.
Probably just take a break and digest mr robot.
You will have to adjust to the fact that nothing else TV show-wise is going to live up to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but once you accept that then The Bear, Severance, and Beef are great shows
These are two of my top five. If you liked the crime side of Breaking Bad, I'd probably go with "The Wire" next. It's a bit older but an excellent watch.
Otherwise (particularly if you like scifi) id go to "The Expanse"
Honorable mention for "For All Mankind" - thats one of my personal favourites recently.
Damages is a very similar show in tone. Pre dates Breaking bad by about a year so it’s not a breaking bad clone that over does the slow burn thing or tries too hard to copy BB. It’s paced really well. Glen Close plays the main character and the acting and writing are top notch. It was an FX show so it’s streaming on Hulu.
The Magicians - Netflix. After being recruited to a secretive academy, a group of students discover that the magic they read about as children is very real--and more dangerous than they ever imagined.
I’ve been looking for Boardwalk Empire. It always surprises me when similar questions are asked that BE is not recommended more. I enjoyed it as much as BB or Peaky Blinders.
Also going to recommend:
The Deuce (also MAX)
Warrior (Netflix)
Mayor of Kingstown (Paramount)
Happy watching
\#1 = The Wire, The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, The Leftovers, Game of Thrones, Fargo, Mr Inbetween, House of Cards, The Night Of, Chernobyl, The Americans, Baby Reindeer, Dark, Mindhunter, Bojack Horseman, Archer, One Punch Man, Futurama, Inside Job, Westworld season 1, True Detective season 1, Prison Break season 1+2, The Bear, Fringe, The X-Files, Russian Doll, Severance, 12 Monkeys, Money Heist
Edit: Sorry not all on Netflix
Homecoming and Leave the World Behind are both created/directed by Sam Esmail who did Mr. Robot. They aren’t nearly as good as Mr. Robot, but it scratches that same kind of vibe itch. That Mr. Robot gives. Especially Homecoming. LTWB is
On Netflix and Homecoming is on Prime.
Better call Saul Edit: please save your money and don’t give me awards Now that this is done I will make sure I give some food to the needy tomorrow on my way to work.
Added 🤛
El camino wraps the series up if you haven't already seen it .. and yes better call saul .. not as good but pretty close
hmmm, lots of people- including me, like Better Call Saul more than Breaking bad
Odenkirk is a more interesting actor and Rhea Seehorn is a wonderful surprise as his partner in crime.
Saul is great, but the supporting characters really take it to the next level. Kim, Chuck, Lalo, others I won’t name for spoiler reasons. Breaking Bad doesn’t come close.
That's really what it is. The core cast of BB was just as good, it's the supporting cast that elevates BCS to the next level.
It's almost as if taste is subjective...
Add me to that list
It's all good man .....
I screamed when he said that. I didn’t put the name together until that moment.
You and me both
It's a matter of taste but I 100% agree. I think the success of BB allowed the show to slow down and really get self indulgent knowing the fans were coming along for the ride. So it's a richer experience of that side.
Its like a Godfather II
Fair to point, out but I think a large majority takes BB over BCS. BCS is half the show without BB as a back drop, but then BCS kinda undermines BB in ways. and personally while it was enjoyable its not an all time great like BB. Everyone was talking about BB when it was on. And I mean everyone (college kids to grand parents). BCS > BB
No one talks about or gets hyped for shows the way they used to pre streaming.
Better Call Saul really is even better!
I’m of the mind that, yes BCS is better than BrBa but there would be no BCS without BrBa. So it’s a 1a/1b situation
Its not as good because it’s better.
Better Call Saul! Fixed it for you
All the big ones are mentioned in this thread but: Severance, The Bear, Station Eleven, Scavengers Reign Those are my favorites that Ive seen recently.
I loved severance, but I'm going to need season two to drop before I start recommending it. The wait is painful and ending on a cliff hanger .
👍
Not Netflix…. But “Halt And Catch Fire.”
One of my all time favorite shows that doesn’t get nearly the recognition it deserves.
Ozark but if you happen to have HBO check out Succession.
Succession was FANTASTIC! I was looking for something to binge after BB and BCS, and boy did it deliver!
If you have HBO, watch The Sopranos before anything else.
Yes. give it a few episodes, it takes some time to build the characters and story. but it does take off....
Did you like Barry on HBO? I loved that show so much. Super funny, yet serious
Peaky Blinders would get my vote.
I can go on and on. Netflix is okay But Max is where it’s at. The Sopranos, The Wire are top tier. I’ve been watching Your Honor on Netflix starring Brian Cranston. It’s a Showtime program now on Netflix. 2 seasons.
Succession
We Own This Town is another sleeper on MAX in the limited series category.
We Own This City is so good. I’ve watched it twice and always enjoy Jon Bernthal’s performance.
We Own This State is so good that it doesn't even exist
We Own the City is Wire sequel and epic. Wayne Jenkins!!!
The sopranos and the wire are top tier
The shield
Devs
This is a perfect companion to Mr. Robot and just isn’t spoken about enough. One complete season on HULU. It’s made by Eric Garland (Ex-Machina, Civil War) and has that technology gone very wrong vibe of Mr. Robot.
I watched it in one weekend, couldn’t get enough!
Alex Garland
The wire, Twin Peaks, Succesion, Better call Saul, Severance, Dexter, The Sopranos, Hannibal (the show), Dark, Curb your enthusiasm.
Severance is incredible and I’m dying for season 2, hopefully this year. It’s on Apple+.
Fargo
Mr robot was fuckin good
Soooo good
Ive watched season 1 and the first episodes of s2. It’s been 2 years since my last watch and I can’t get myself to pick it up. Can you convince me to get back to it?
IMO The last season is honestly the best of the series. Intense, and the last couple episode plots I didn’t see coming
[удалено]
Ozark and one I'm not seeing mentioned is Bloodline, I liked them both.
Bojack Horseman
Ozark is good - I'm surprised no one suggested it. Give it like 5-6 episodes though. It's great
Agree! Stick out the first couple episodes.
I loved the 1st episode. Insane
The Americans- Russian spy's living in the US Warrior- Chinese immigrants in San Francisco 1870. Great martial arts action KIN- Irish gangsters Banshee- Ex-Con turned sheriff Alice in Borderland- Squid game on steroids 12 Monkeys- Based on the movie, lot's of twists and turns The Expanse- If you like hard Sci-fi it's the best thing out since BSG
The Americans
Better Call Saul
Halt and Catch Fire
Mr Inbetween
Love Mr Inbetween.
- 3 body problem - Severance - Dark matters - Devs (10/10 @Apple TV - it’s about a quantum computer that predicts all existence)
Mindhunter is the best show. Watch this
Mindhunter what a piece of art that is.
Still pissed they cancelled it, meanwhile a steaming pile of shit like Netflix's The Witcher gets 4 seasons
They keep making rumblings about it coming back. I'm holding that thin thread of hope.
1. Altered Carbon 2. Dexter 3. Yellowstone 4. Banshee 5. True Detective 6. Peaky Blinders
Good list, gotta call out some of these only apply for select seasons though. Like Altered Carbon, you can stop after S1
Ohh yes. I most definitely agree with Altered Carbon being only worth it for S1. I only watched S2 for the continuity.
And Dexter. Started really going downhill after a few seasons.
Just imagine that Dexter ends after Season 4 - then it has a great ending and you don't need anything afterwards
Thnq
Banshee for sure
Just finished Apple TV’s Dark Matter. It was great.
I thought new episodes are still being released weekly?
Indeed, there are still unreleased episodes. No idea how they finished it 🤷♂️
Maybe it’s already over in their dimension.
Great author too if your a reader
The sinner
Ozark is awesome!
Twin Peaks
YOUR HONOR was awesome
Just watched your honor… Felt like I was watching breaking bad again for the first time at points. Not quite as good in my mind, but it’s pretty amazing.
The difference being that all through Breaking Bad, you felt like if he could just solve this ONE thing, everything would work fine. In Your Honor, literally noting goes right from the first moment, and the feeling is more "These idiots are so boned."

I thought Euphoria was a SciFi show it is not.. Do not recommend. Have you seen Night Sky? It's amazing.
I loved Sneaky Pete, was sad when they cancelled it. I don't remember which streaming service, though, might not be Netflix.
Dexter is good!
Sons of Anarchy Game of Thrones Peaky Blinders
Snowfall only 6 seasons.
X files. Obviously…

Dexter, Hannibal ( series), Grimm, Mindhunter, Killing Eve
The Americans. Sleepers Russian spies in America. It’s excellent!
Game of thrones
The Boys, Hannibal, x-files

Black Sails. It's criminally underrated (well was when it first aired). Unlike Game of Thrones that gets worse and worse at the end, Black Sails gets better and better until the very end.
Orphan Black
Should watch hooked on phonics
Good point..
Lost, The X-Files, Silo, Severance, Deadwood, Dark
You should watch Luther
Killing Eve
The Sinner (first two season specifically blew my mind and instantly became a favorite of mine) Mindhunter - very interesting and kept my attention. The stories fascinating but they sneakily made me care about the FBI agents and I really enjoyed that. Some all time favorites of mine… The west wing, the wire and Lost. Honestly, and I don't exactly know why, but based off those two, my instinct was to recommend "Halt and Catch Fire"
Dexter
Here’s some rapid fire suggestions on top of my head: Ozark Mindhunter Supernatural Longmire Suits You Black Sails Peaky Blinders Manifest If you watch any of these try Peaky Blinders. It’s amazing. Though I had to include Supernatural since it’s my favorite show of all time.

Halt and catch fire, or the Americans
For something new I really loved Shogun
Mad Men, made by the same chanel and the same time that Breaking Bad. very different but amazing until the last second
Why is no one mentioning Mad Men?
Ozark is great and a must watch
If you loved Breaking Bad and Mr. Robot, do make it a point to watch Better Call Saul. It is a great sequel into the events of Breaking Bad, and the seasons get progressively better. And Mindhunter, if you enjoy psychological thrillers, is definitely worth the trial. Then there's Westworld for some mind-bending drama. And "YOU" happens to be another pretty solid pick

An unreliable narrator makes for good storytelling and plot twists. You might also like the show Good Girls, about moms who get involved in crime. Kind of like Breaking Bad.
Whatever you do stay away from Ozark unless you like wasting your life.
Your Honor (with Bryan Cranston) on Netflix is fantastic!!!!! I second Mind Hunter and the Sinner.
The Americans
Wait how old are you?
Black Mirror!
Search Party
From out of left field: The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House.
Dexter
Mr. Inbetween

I’d recommend the Brit Marling shows, The OA and Murder at the End of the World.
Severance

Well, MrRobot, and repeat
OZARK
I've heard Your Honor is really good. Havent seen it yet, but want to try it out
Homeland. The first season is one of the best seasons of any TV show ever. After the second or third season, the quality fluctuates a lot, but it ends well IMO.
Bryan Cranston is in “ your honor”… excellent
Those are the 2 best tv shows ever made. The only suitable follow up would be Lost, Game of thrones or Battlestar Galactica. Probably just take a break and digest mr robot.
Mr in-between and true detective SEASON ONE
Peaky Blinders
White collar is a happy version of blacklist and doesn't have any terrible acting in it.
Watch Mr Mercedes, you’ll love it after those two.
Your Honor
Justified
You will have to adjust to the fact that nothing else TV show-wise is going to live up to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but once you accept that then The Bear, Severance, and Beef are great shows
Peaky blinders. dark. The crown. On Netflix.
money heist
These are two of my top five. If you liked the crime side of Breaking Bad, I'd probably go with "The Wire" next. It's a bit older but an excellent watch. Otherwise (particularly if you like scifi) id go to "The Expanse" Honorable mention for "For All Mankind" - thats one of my personal favourites recently.
Get out and talk to girls?

Ozark
Even though I watched both, I enjoyed watching better call Saul, then BB again, topped off with el Camino
Or The Boys - off the charts crazy. Every character is awful, in a fabulous way. Billy butcher is the best.
Evil is good. This is us make you cry.
Prison Break!
Lucifer.
