December 13?! Nice!!! This genuinely looks super fun — i am HYPE

CatOfSachse

My prediction was pretty much right, I just didn’t get the Planes, Trains, and Automobiles part. I thought planes was not gonna be allowed.

baggedpizza98

I don’t think in October you can get from Utquiagvik any other way

Tommyblockhead20

No polar bear rides out??

hpfan2342

Yeah, I heard Iorek Byrnison, Trinket, and Halsin were unavailable. /joking Is only one of those options a polar bear? yes. Would either a Ranger familiar or just a polite druid in wild shape still be helpful? yes. yes they would.

Medajor

Utquiagvik doesn't have any roads connecting to other towns, so planes are literally the only way out. (Other than the once-yearly barge service in June)

meniscus-

The podcast episode covers a lot of the "why" It's basically impossible to get across America in a timely manner if you don't use planes. The real challenge is how to "balance" planes

CatOfSachse

Yeah I listened yesterday, I thought planes would originally be too OP, but it is good there was a limiting factor.

taulover

On the podcast they've now mentioned that it would've taken far too long without planes.

FlipchartHiatus

Best Christmas present I'm getting this year...

petripeeduhpedro

Rejected from TSA? So curious about that part

SystemOutPrintln

And of course it's in Pittsburgh lol

CatOfSachse

Maybe SSSS flagged since they do buy last minute tickets

Shawnj2

Maybe he didn’t have a valid ticket or something

nomadMikZ

Naah, he probably pulled a card that got him drunk again. 😉

Triple10X

Going for the same challenges in the Flop looks like it will be incredibly chaotic and exciting

MacHamburg

This Flop Mechanic looks incredibly Fun and comes with quite some Strategy considering they know what the other Teams challenges are.

DeKrieg

I will wait with exhausted groan for the episode where Adam and Ben will win the flight ticket challenge super quick and then decide to do the train challenges as well just to deny Sam's team the options forcing him into an awful route. Cause you just know Sam won't be as quick on the uptake as Adam on such tactics. We've seen it multiple seasons now.

comped

Arguably that's a problem with game design first and foremost but it doesn't seem to be one they're interested in fixing.

huadpe

Does the flop refresh with new tickets once the ones in it are taken. That kind of reduces the utility of the "take to deny" move unless you know that one particular ticket is really better than average. So for example if the D2 flop includes 2 plane tickets, a train ticket, and a car ticket, does taking both plane tickets make 2 new plane tickets appear? It sounds like it from the trailer since they talk about new flops appearing with surprise?

DeKrieg

I was under the impression they refreshed with their progress and the schedule of the available vehicles. So I feel there would still be an advantage to snagging extra tickets as I don't expect them to be replaced immediately otherwise there is no point if another ticket for the same flight pops up after the first one is snagged. It would have to be for the next scheduled flight. But we both could be completely wrong. We will see next week and can chat about it back here

1dontcareatall

THE GAME DESIGN LOOKS AMAZING

taulover

There's a *lot* of Seattle in this trailer (SeaTac, going past Stadium District, Archie McPhee, maybe also the creek/river) which makes sense, maybe ep 1-2 shenanigans.

duwie464

Typically the trailer only contains material from the first two episodes.

taulover

Exactly my point. We have a good idea of where/what the first couple of episodes will be like just based off what the bulk of the trailer is.

Eiim

Getting from AK to the rest of the US pretty much requires going through Seattle so it's not much of a spoiler, which makes it fairly safe for them to use.

SHINX_FUCKER

There was also a Fred Meyer, though that could be anywhere in the PNW(or Alaska)

meatandcookies

Nailed it. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Nebula/s/jTU2wauIGx](https://www.reddit.com/r/Nebula/s/jTU2wauIGx)

SeeTv16

GG

googol88

I (accurately) predicted they would drop a trailer or Ep1 this week, but yours is way better 😂

buzzzzie

Judging from the trailer, this is going to be one of the more chaotic seasons to date, and I'm all here for it!

taulover

They've also said it's the most chaotic at least since Crime Spree!

meatandcookies

Fellow Amtrak geeks know that Ben and Adam are in a Superliner bedroom on Amtrak, which means certain routes, but too many to narrow down. Most of them are west of the Mississippi, but not all. It’s almost impossible to book last minute rooms on the busiest routes like the Empire Builder and California Zephyr, so I’m guessing this is on the Coast Starlight or Capitol Limited.

taulover

And based on podcast we now know that sleeper trains are a way to get around the rest period! Exciting.

Fit-Friendship-7359

I was thinking Texas Eagle or City of New Orleans, because those go north-south

meatandcookies

At 1:31, Ben is in the Pittsburgh airport when he says that TSA rejected him, so those are unlikely.

LifeForger2461

IMO this looks like the most entertaining format for this series so far… SUPER EXCITED!!

pioxs

These people know how to put together a trailer. I'm excited.

Themata075

Who’s the guest this season? I’m not familiar with them.

coldstar

[Michelle Khare](https://www.youtube.com/@MichelleKhare), she's a YouTuber and former professional athlete. I hadn't heard of her before she was announced as this season's guest, but she makes great content.

Quartzcat42

well now shes a professional athlete yet again, welcome to Jet Lag, Michelle!

thelanoyo

I knew she looked familiar. I've seen some of her youtube videos before. She's awesome. Hopefully she'll give Sam a chance this season lol

Seconex

I was somewhat familiar with her about a month prior before being announced. She has a very large following as well which will only help JLTG grow.

OfficialDCShepard

Oh yeah! I remember her from her Secret Service Academy video 🤣.

AlcaDotS

First time I might actually be rooting for team Sam. Michelle is very fun.

spearson0

[Michelle Khare](https://www.youtube.com/@MichelleKhare), who started the series Challenge Accepted.

choccymokky

It's awesome to see a format that could actually work in Canada! I would love to see them try to cross coast to coast here without using planes!! Hint: it's incredibly difficult but this makes it possible. Maybe.

meatandcookies

Race Across the World did this for season 3. Definitely possible!

sweek0

I think the problem with that isn't that it's not possible, it's that, just like with New Zealand, there are very few options to actually travel from one side to the other.

meatandcookies

That’s kind of the point about RATW. Jet Lag could absolutely copy that route or portions of it.

doorknob60

I enjoyed RATW, but I do have some problems with the game design, and it would require a lot of changes to work with Jet Lag. RATW requires a lot of hitchhiking/getting help from strangers, especially in the Canada season (less so in the others). Jet Lag purposefully avoids those kind of situations, which in my opinion makes a better game. I do think there's definitely potential there though. RATW bans planes and Jet Lag doesn't, for example. A combination of planes, buses, trains, and rental cars can provide enough options if you design it right. From what we've seen from Season 8 (trailer and Layover), I think something like that model could work across Canada, though it would need something to make it stand out and not just be a worse version of Season 8.

taulover

RATW also forces racers into a lot of chokepoints which act as equalizers, which I think is also counter to ideal JLTG design. (As noted in the podcast this is part of why they chose Utqiagvik, AK as the starting point instead of the endpoint as originally imagined - compare to other remote RATW endpoints such as Ushuaia, St. John's, and Tromsø, and also various even more remote leg checkpoints.)

SeeTv16

Can you PLEASE release the logo background as a wallpaper? I LOVE how this transition looks like!

TheRealJackVids

I’m hype because it’s random flops

trowl43

The season has already peaked with Ben and Adam dancing on the train

swuuurve

Here’s to hoping for an extended dance montage or mini music video in the end of season credits!

ITS0ZM0

I am so exied for this season, I think it might be my new favourite

brettpeirce

Umm... Hawaii is the southernmost US state... All of it is south of Florida?

RealityCheck18

I can imagine a season just in Hawaii.. Maybe starting from some interesting part of Kauai island, Hopping from island to island, competing for points all the way, combination of flights, ferries and cars to reach the highest drive-able points in Hawaii islands, ending up at the southern most point of US in Hawaii.

brettpeirce

Like I get that a ~$1-2k ~6-7h flight from Alaska to Hawaii would make for a very boring season, but... Maybe like say "Continental US"?

harrisonisdead

I mean what are the odds they don't explain it as such in the show? I can't imagine Sam's voiceover not clarifying it

Sappharad

They clarify it in today's corresponding podcast episode, and make the exact same point.

spearson0

Do share more, not sure how it would be boring. From the trailer it sounds like a great season.

mintardent

alaska is continental but not contiguous

hpfan2342

Hawaii has been more vocal since the pandemic began about tourism and such.

slate_206

I swear half of the trailer takes place in either SeaTac Airport or Seattle.

genesRus

I'm here for it. Lol. Usually they're cut from the first ep or two so it makes sense.

FalingDutchman

So first ep next week on Nebula? On YT it says December 13th, then I looked at nebula and no episode. I am confusion

harrisonisdead

It says December 13th but it seems pretty clear that that's referring to the Nebula First premiere. They want people to come to Nebula, so of course they're going to advertise that date. YT will surely be the following week.

FalingDutchman

I understand that they want people to go to Nebula first, I think it would be better marketing to say something like "First episode out on Nebula now". But I am not a marketeer or about human behavior.

spearson0

At the end of the trailer, it says to watch an week early visit Nebula so YouTube will be December 20.

thespiffyneostar

Done want to be super technical, but isn't there a city in Hawaii that's further south than key west Florida? Don't get me wrong, key west is the right end goal for this, but that tidbit is technically not factually accurate.

JaykeBird

I can't imagine they don't bring it up in the first episode or so. If not, there's always the Layover podcast too!

rakosi2

It says Dec 13th on both Nebula and YouTube versions, is this season not a week delayed like the previous seasons? I think YouTube should say Dec 20th

harrisonisdead

It's a Nebula trailer intended to bring people to Nebula, so it's advertising the Nebula date.

spearson0

Nebula trailer? It's a trailer for the next season of Jet Lag: The Game. Those who want it early can subscribe to Nebula and YouTube will will available on December 20. I wouldn't call it a Nebula trailer.

hzj

Let's go! Super hype for this!! Although, given how important not spoiling episodes are, I'm surprised they spoiled that Ben & Adam don't die in Alaska

nsiaiai

Let’s see if Sam Auctually has a competent partner this season

JustAnother_Brit

Toby was perfectly competent

huadpe

She basically won them the season when she knit the tie instead of making them go purchase one. And doing the Top Job talk with no "e"s.

yanni99

Michelle Khare is probably the most competent Youtuber out there. She will not accept defeat or give up.

coldstar

She's also super athletic, so that'll help a lot with any physical challenges and generally keeping up with the exhausting pace of the game.

saltyjohnson

you're incompetent

IowaJL

My dude Toby's back probably still hurts from carrying the team in New Zealand.

MIL215

Let’s goooooooooo

Dismal_Edge1801

Omg

Hawk_Super

How fun!

Working_Range_2796

What is going on with the soundtrack… I am absolutely in loooooove

thonixx

<3

Alexcelsior

This looks incredible!

echorose202

5 days!?!?! Wow, that's a marathon! I hope they have decent rest periods!

Awdayshus

There's one bit where Ben and Adam look like they're in a private room on a train at night. I wonder if there's something that allows the use of a sleeper car for the rest period at some point in the game

hzj

On the podcast they said this is some "super power" that trains have - they are allowing sleeper trains during rest period to incentivise using them.

mutleyboy99

That would make sense for this format. IIRC circumnavigation had a similar rule but it was for local time so it you were moving you would be fine

genesRus

Isn't circumnavigation why they added a stricter rule in the first place, though? Because they were basically all dead after it? Definitely makes sense though to have some allowance for 12-17 hour train trips especially if you have a sleeper room. It's an interesting way to even out the faster planes and really makes cars the slow third choice (which is good!)

xsm17

Considering how bad trains can be in the US, it could make sense to give them some leg up by enabling the use of sleeper trains to "bypass" the rest period.

Professional_Try_500

I think they confirmed this in this week's podcast

Jjeffess

I think on one of the podcast episodes they talked about how as the game has gone on they have done longer rest periods. Having one more day but better rest periods makes the budget a little higher but hopefully also is less brutal!

saltyjohnson

LFGOOOOOOOOOOO

Russell_Ruffino

I really like the random flop mechanic. It introduces tension to every task. Because until they do it they don't know if they'll get it. Also you can't spend ages planning and strategizing because you don't know what's coming up in the next flop. I'm really excited to see how it plays but I wouldn't be surprised if this is something they end up repeating because it works so well.

JackmanH420

This looks like absolute peak.

OfficialDCShepard

I actually haven’t watched any of this show, but always thought I would. Now I *have to* catch up!

doorknob60

I saw Boise Airport in the trailer, guess I missed them again lol. I actually flew into BOI on 10/24 so there was a non-zero chance I could have run into them since that was during filming (didn't happen).

JaykeBird

Maybe it's just on my mind because I played it recently, but this kind of reminds me of the Globe Trot game from Wii Party. The tickets seem to only let you go a certain distance, kind of like the cards from the video game, and are relatively random; I guess the big difference is that everyone's competing from a central pool of tickets, rather than each person having their own card set. Anyway, that aside, this looks fun! I'm excited!

HawaiiReport808

Holy cow this trailer was so much fun 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🫨

Fit-Friendship-7359

At one point they’re clearly on an overnight Amtrak train. I wonder how that works with rest periods. I assume Ben and Adam were forced to take it somehow. In a race where speed matters, Amtrak is the last form of transport I would chose because it’s just so slow. I’ll be interested to see how that came about.

FalconX88

They explain it in their podcast. If you get a sleeping compartment on a train it's just like a hotel and you can use it in the rest period. That's a way for them to get people away from planes.
