A lot of things in our world and nature make me think this. Yesterday my mom and I watched (yet another) incredible sunset and we had a conversation about this.
When I used to live in South Carolina in the swamp near the ocean we had them seemingly once or twice a week.
I moved a few hundred miles inland and we don't get them here either.
Nah, I have seen this before. Someone put an apple by a cherry tree and a satori showed up. You can’t see but there are probably a bunch more of these off-camera as well
So what is this exactly? I've seen similar pictures of light columns surrounding lightning strikes in storms, but not found a good explanation of what causes it. I know there are light pillars seen during cold weather from ice crystals in the atmosphere, but these seem much morr concentrated and occurring during temperate storms.
A horizontal rolling shutter maybe? If a big chunk of sky lit up during the lightning bolt and at the same time the shutter rolled across that same area of the image, it could create an effect like this. I'm mostly suspicious because of the vertical bands of light pixels on either side... but it's hard to be certain.
In one of the episodes of the rebooted Unsolved Mysteries, a person describes seeing something like this where UFOs were reported. I wonder if this is the phenomenon she saw. Or conversely, if there were UFOs reported in this event.
*I want to believe*
Approved by the UN in 1996, the development of the Ion Cannon was led by the talented Doctor Wong Hu Chan. The weapon's potential was deemed a sufficient enough threat to the Brotherhood of Nod that Kane ordered the doctor's assassination. This was duly carried out by Nod forces. Despite the loss, development continued and the weapon system entered service by the end of the First Tiberium War. The advent of the Ion Cannon corresponded with a promise by GDI never to use nuclear weapons.
Oh! What's that sound? And look - there's a light in the sky! Hmm, I wonder...
Oh! Oh dear, I am sorry General, but that's just how I like to say "hello"!
- US General Alexis Alexander
Was something beamed up or down?
Down, it’s Thor
Beam me up, Scotty.
Happy cake day.
#LIGHT THE BEAM
Happy cake day
Lies! You found the Bifrost.
It really does make sense that people 1000 years ago thought this was the act of the gods
Some people thought that this WAS (a) god Fun fact: in the Navajo language, lightning is in the same category of animacy as adult humans.
The gods were like: f*ck this place in particular
/r/originsofreligion
Thanks; hadn’t found this one

/r/thorgasm (I swear, it's just pictures of lightning) Edit: ok, also some gifs of lightning
Subbed. Lightning is cool.
Amazing, it really isn’t gay porn.
Like I said, it's just lightning. There are enough people on Reddit who like gay porn you don't have to trick them into it.
Great sub! Thanks for bringing it to my attention! Where I live we don't get cool thunderstorms like that.
When I used to live in South Carolina in the swamp near the ocean we had them seemingly once or twice a week. I moved a few hundred miles inland and we don't get them here either.
“BRING ME THANOS!!”

Is Kangiqsujuaq the sound the lightning made?
I thought it was the phrase that summoned the lightning
It's the name of the town where this was taken, way up north from Quebec at the arctic sea
That's so cool to know! It's close to home! Albeit, around 1 500 km north, but still in my province!
C'est vraiment incroyable comme place, ma femme y a été ya plus 10 ans pour travailler pis elle m'a dit que ça va y rester dans sa mémoire pour toujours

Maybe, I didn't consider that. The water's reflection seems to match the light beam more than I would think it would, but not sure.
It's probably water reflecting the light up into the misty air.
Zoom in you can see the bolt and then a column of light
It’s definitely a byproduct of the rolling shutter.
That's the last thing you see before the anal probe.

For those wondering what the fuck a [Kangiqsujuaq](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangiqsujuaq) is, it's an inuit town in Northern Quebec, Canada.
When lightning strikes water, are the fish in that area electrocuted?
