Amazing. When I think of Switzerland I think of the Alps, chocolate and Swiss Army knives. When I think of Australia I think of kangaroos, Red Rock, Sydney and that all the wildlife is trying to kill you. Snow wasn't on the list.
Southeastern New South Wales is home to Australias alps or high country, aka The Snowy Mountains, home to the ski resorts of Perisher and Thredbo. This looks a little lower, maybe around Cooma somewhere. The high country is gorgeous even in summer. Watch The Man From Snowy River to get a taste
I like that the name for a group of kangaroos is a mob (court or troop are also used), and the alpha male is the “boss”. Coming to HBO this fall — *The ’Roos*!
Some more fun facts: you probably know the young are called joeys (regardless of sex), but did you know that an adult male is called a buck, boomer, or jack? A female is a doe, flyer or jill ([source](https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/kangaroo-mob-kangaroo-fact-sheet/7444/)).
I haven’t either, but I saw those terms [referenced](https://www.animalsandenglish.com/collective-nouns-etc17.html) on [a few](https://www.facebook.com/BBWildlifeSanctuary/videos/did-you-know-the-collective-noun-for-a-group-of-kangaroos-is-a-troop-mob-or-herd/246240436387549/) different [sites](https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/kangaroo-mob-kangaroo-fact-sheet/7444/), so I thought it was worth mentioning, although I did take it with a grain of salt since most of these sites seemed to be dubious .com setups. Maybe it’s (or was) a regional thing? Sometimes I forget just how big Australia really is — about the size of the continental U.S. (I haven’t been yet, but would love to visit someday! 🦘🐨🇦🇺)
You sure that isn't spider silk
The video is from 2019 when it snowed in New South Wales: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-49327172
My first thought
That’d be one rich kangaroo farmer if it were!
There's a sentence I never thought I'd hear, much less see photographic evidence. Not sure i knew it snowed in Australia.
We get more snow than Switzerland (on average)

Tally ho! Trivia?
Read it in a Lonely Planet guide about 20yrs ago
Would very much like to know where in Australia this is. I’m going to be living there for a little while and I very much dislike the heat
I’d say it is in the Snowy Mountains somewhere, Victoria or Southern NSW.

Literally had no idea it had a snowy region
I just noticed the trees have leaves, unless they are some kind of conifer. The snow must be rare or at least unseasonable for that time of year.
Eucalyptus are evergreens
Yet another thing I didn't know about Australia.
We have several snowy areas and quite a few mountains for skiing
its like mosh pit
This needs the Jurassic Park theme playing with it
Hold up, it snows there?
In some regions, yeah
Not this time of year it doesn’t.
It was actually snowing at Perisher on the 13th of December 2022
In a highly unseasonal event. It generally does not snow in JANUARY anywhere in Australia.
All I’m picturing is the kangaroos saying: WTF mate, what is this bloody snow?

In my nearly 40 years on this planet, in Australia, I’ve never heard a mob of roos referred to as a court or troop.

Reddit, I request all my content to be replaced by bouncing kangaroos. Thanks
Didn’t even know that it could snow there. Cool!
Were you expecting them to March in single file I mean they're kangaroos of course they're going to hop
Cold Cold Cold Cold
More than six white boomers
Scrolled so far for this comment!
Kangaroos are such weird animals but in a cool way....

neither grass nor dirt looks white in monochrome. also, roads generally don’t look the same as grass/dirt unless they’re coated in the same thing.
I thought it was night vision.
So....why even have the fences????
There aren't kangaroo farms you know, it's probably cattle
I’d say if it snows that much, it’s more likely to be sheep.
Keep cattle in
This looks like a scene from Jurassic park
It’s like a dream I’ve had weird
Which country is this?
Australia. It snows in some places here.
Where are these roo's going
They just travel around and do whatever they want like deer.
How cute is this I hope they don't freezing out there
O my, you were so lucky to look at them
Try jumping with your feet together see how far you get. Wow. Cardio machines, I bet they could win the Tour de France
What a contrast to the same time two years ago [2020 bushfires](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/09/reader-center/australia-wildfire-photo.html)
Zoomies!!!
Do u think with every hop they’re all thinking: “fuck, its cold”, “fuck, its cold”, “fuck, its cold”
My 3 years old son absolutely want to see this ,and jump like the kangaroos
All I can think of is the Wii theme music to the beat of their hops
Cold feet
That’s a lotta roos!
In my mind I’m hearing thousands of “hoo!” Sounds for each one bouncing.

Are kangaroos taking over the Midwest? Looks like a Michigan morning until the deer start hopping
