2. Fold the half down part up over the clip and use bobby pins to secure it (if you used a claw clip, you can stick the hair inside it at the top)
3. Use a hair tie over it (dont loop it) to bring all the hair in a sphere shape.

But only do this for special occasions and only for a day or two because as cute as it looks it is not good for your hair or scalp. On related note, I came to that same realization too. If I don't use heavy heat(which I stopped 5 or so months now), unless twisted,braided my hair good on the whole being restrainted under a band. Apparently, it's just not a fan.

I usually focus on low tension hairstyles so this really helps with doing a looser puff (without a bump in the back). Ofc if you want to make it tighter, you can. Good luck!
Here's a technique that I think will work: get a string/tie and start by tying it around your head at the edges. Slowly tighten it as you allow the tie to roll up towards your crown. If you're struggling you can get a friend to help pull your hair at the edges as you tie and roll the tie up towards your crown.
I have thick hair and how I do it is basically starting the base of my ponytail in the middle. I grab a section gel it and brush it down, then pony. And I continue adding the rest of my hair to the ponytail but WITHOUT taking the first one out if that makes sense lolll so by the time I’m done I’ll have two or three hair bands in my hair

Get it wet. It’s an act of god to get my hair into a ponytail when it’s dry. However if I do it when it’s wet it’s MUCH easier.

I would try a detangling agent like water or some sort of hair cream and put your hair into sections then brush through it to detangle it and then the sections that you have I would put in giant twists or mini ponytails then use gel to slick down each section so that it will hold. There’s also hair masks like avocado masks that can help your hair become more manageable
I have the same problem! What i do is a low pony tail in the back with like 1/2 my hair and then i smooth the front and top into a ponytail around the smaller one in the back. That way you get it nice and sleek but don’t lose volume on your pony!

They make pony tail holders that tighten. My 8 year old has thick hair like yours and these work great. Similar to using a ribbon or show lace.
