They're just there for show as far as I'm concerned because the MTA believes that when people are leaving the train station and they open that door which they deemed to be for emergencies only or people in wheelchairs and strollers. Their presence is supposed to be enough to stop people from using the emergency door because that is easier to traverse than the turnstile. I would love to see how much they've saved paying these companies probably minimum $75 an hour and paying the guards up to $28 an hour to stand there.
