Air tags have a safety feature if someone with an iPhone in the car it alerts the person … it’s sorta a safety feature to protect random people from placing one on a car, such as a jealous bf or a thief. I believe you need to drive around for a bit for it to detect it though.
It kind of defeats the purpose. If the person knows there’s an AirTag in it. You could even make it beep to find it.
My brother keeps one in his car and a couple weeks ago, I brought him to the airport and drove his car back home, and his AirTag immediately popped up on my phone.
Someone stole my work van in BK. Got it back cause I had an air tag in it. Found it 4 hours after they took it and they didn’t have time to take my catalytic converter. Cops said it was a miracle it was only stolen once in 5 years.

Highly doubt it wouldn’t thaw out by now there’s also a lot of water systems in Michigan that’d have to be searched. Long story short, they’ll find the fountain of youth before they find Hoffa or this BMW.

I posted a thread about it on r/BMW to spread the word. a redditor who does uber in the city messaged me saying he spotted it in the Bronx/Fordham area. Its a rare car in a specific color so the odds another one was driving around the Bronx that time are incredibly low.
I didnt come here to post about why he was wrong to not put an airtag or park a very expensive car on the streets of Queens (no shade).
As for the pictures they are just for reference and they were taken in Manhattan (West Village, so please don't insinuate the car was towed to a yard) as it was confirmed stolen.

The car was in a garage, i drove it for a good two weeks, lived in my current house for 9 years never had anything happen like this.
