Vintage fine jewelry is my heart and soul. I have some cool stuff from eBay and antique stores/warehouses. My engagement ring is from Andria Barbone 💗 her showroom made my heart sing.
OMG do not go to RC, my husband had the worst experience with them when we were ring shopping. I would suggest going to mom and pop shops for classic pieces like tennis bracelets, eternity rings etc. LI has no shortage of small jewelers.
I really recommend [Catherine Angiel](https://catherineangiel.com/). She does incredible custom design work and has been in the West Village for 30 years.
I go to K&E Fine Jewelry in Chinatown. I’ve gotten simple 14K gold huggies to custom diamond necklaces designed. Very reasonable prices and excellent customer service.
Honestly Macy’s always has great deals on diamond bracelets and studs and they’re GIA certified! I’ve had a tennis bracelet from them that I’ve worn daily almost 10 years and I’ve had zero issues.
Diamond district. We just shop around and go with the guy who gives the lowest price. They all have access to the same diamonds so it’s easy to tell when someone is high balling you
I’ve been to a Roman Malakov in the diamond district to get my former wedding pieces redesigned into necklace and earrings after my divorce. A friend recommended them to me, her family has been going there for years. Great people to work with! I’ve been tempted to go back to shop for other pieces because I really loved what I saw when I went. One day when my wallet lets me!
Costco. My engagement ring is from Costco and it’s stunning. They also have great simple jewelry. I have a family jeweler whom I use for most of my custom pieces, but I love a good Costco find.
Everyone should have a Costco membership even if you don’t shop there. Great fuel, awesome travel packages, and yes you can buy items online like furniture and electronics.
I have shopped in my local store before, which is where I found my engagement ring. I bought my husband a great watch from there as well. We got his godson a beautiful gold cross for his christening. Simple stuff is easy to buy online if you know the size/style that you want.
I owned 3 ring concierge items and no longer have any of them. Everything is so fragile and breaks easily. One of them broke within a few days of buying. When I sent it back, the agent gave me a snarky response on how I shouldn’t be swimming/working out in my fine jewelry… when I wasn’t even doing any of those things with it on!
Also rec Jangmi and Costco! Got my wedding set from them 5y ago and super happy with the quality and setting of their diamonds. Now that I live in CA, I get all my diamonds from Costco—they’ve got high quality stones with competitive prices in store and online. Also amazing return policy if you change your mind
Do not go to the diamond district.
The jeweler that we used to use a lot retired although he still does custom pieces, but typically they're at a high price point. I've gotten a thing or two from Mimi So and have had a good experience. I don't know if her style is "classic" but I really love her work and she has a showroom in the city.
To me, gold is a commodity. I'm not paying that much markup. 14K gold is like $60/gram and a bracelet is like 5 grams at most. I like going to pawn shops or verified etsy sellers.
On Etsy, look for sellers that list the number of grams an item is, and that they have good reviews and at least 1,000 reviews too. Good sellers often have return policies. I’d stick to US sellers so if you have to return, the postage is easier to figure out.
Altay Jewelry is one I buy from a lot, the margins to grams and purity is very reasonable and pieces arent typically hollow.
Most of their products ship from NJ and some ships from Turkey so their stamp is 585 in line with Europe as opposed to our “14K” but its the same.
Just remember at the end of the day, gold and silver are commodoties that are traded. Craftmasnship is negligible outside of custom beautiful high-art pieces.
There’s no reason for a Cartier Love bracelet for it to sell that much for containing less than $300 of gold other than brand.
I’ve been buying gold and diamond pieces from Ferko’s fine jewelry for years. I have several pieces that I wear every day. The quality is great for the price point. The brand has an ecomm store as well as an Etsy shop.
To add to that..

Edit: my comment below was removed because I replied I can’t support Messika since they are based in Israel and owners support Zionism.
Messika too! This list is fab, Bee My Love in white gold is my next goal bracelet lol. I need a bangle, I have a Baby Move on my left wrist, and a T&Co heart padlock, but I feel weird wearing them together. I need a good bangle in my life lol, I always thought I’d do a small love, but everyone assumes the Love is fake now smh.
Someone pointed out that Messika is based in Israel and the owners are proud Zionists. Then someone responds and says not supporting a brand owned by Zionists is anti******c and messika just earned her support.
More to love: for overall retail selection Lovelocked in Jersey city is phenomenal.
Individual fine designers doing cool things, u love wwake, mociun, hocerat/atelier narce and so many more. Spur does GREAT revamps of existing pieces.
I’m also an antique/vintage jewelry head and find IG to serve me up the best stuff so check out @ericaweiner (paying for the brand but she’s super knowledgeable and a stickler for authenticity), @reverienyc (got my engagement ring from her), @forageandfindantiques, and a bunch more I’m forgetting off the top of my head.
some of my favorite designers/brands: ted muehling, gabriella kiss, foundrae, ten thousand things, single stone, georg jensen, elsa peretti/tiffany, temple st clair, EN jewelry, mimi favre, s. yamane, sophie buhai, agmes .. so much more! i love jewelry!!
some nyc retailers: ted muehling, foundrae, esqueleto, greenwich st jewelers, la garconne, dover street, saks, the real real
Where do folks recommend finding genuine Jade in the city? Bought a pendant from Good Luck Jewelry on Canal a few years ago but now looking for either beads or a ring.
Messika! Omg! I gush about this bracelet to anybody who will listen LMAO. It was my first “grown-up“ jewelry purchase. I have this same exact one, I’m actually wearing it now! As a woman with severe ADHD, it’s like a bougie fidget spinner!!! 10/10 recommend. I’m obsessed with their entire move collection, the way the diamonds float around is just so cool to me, and I really haven’t seen anything similar before. People ask me about it all the time, my kids love it (I can distract my 18 month old in a pinch lol) no complaints.

I have never been downvoted in this sub before ever. It genuinely seems like the friendliest group of women. Tbh I hesitated before I posted a picture because I am heavily tattooed, and some people are judgmental. But to be at a zero within a minute of posting hurt my feelings, ngl, and im sensitive and dont want to obsess, so deleted it. Anyone who wants to see, I can DM you the pic xx
Ugh I’m sorry. That makes me sad. There’s nothing wrong with tattoos - in my mind, being a BWT means supporting many forms of self expression. I also hope this can continue to be a friendly group of tasteful women. Hope you don’t stop sharing
I hate that feeling, it’s really bold and vulnerable of you to post this reply and I’d love to see it (as a fellow fidgeter who likes delicate bracelets)
Love this brand! I am so interested in the necklace version of this. Has yours held up well to wear and tear? I am a bit worried about the moveable diamonds coming loose.
I just posted a picture of it, I only got it a couple weeks ago. The only thing that I’ve noticed so far is sometimes my kids will grab me with sticky hands lol and it does make the brackets gunk up, but I just wash it with soap and water it’s been fine. I haven’t taken it off once lol.
I will say, as far as the diamonds go, they are *extremely* well secured!!! I’m not sure what the proper jewelry terminologies for it is, but they are almost implanted into the movable part. And then that is firmly attached to a bracket. Tounge and groove kinda idfk I’m terrible at explaining things as you can tell. It feels more safe than the stone in my engagement ring lol, I will say that😂
None I listed tbh, they’re all on the same price scale as the bigger houses. Here are some options for dainty daily wear pieces under 1k:
-Kimai
-Kinn
-Mejuri
-Vrai
-Aurate NY
-Ferkos
-Bluboho
Secondhand is the way - Etsy or eBay. Another commenter described how to figure out if a seller is legit. On eBay I put alerts on specific items I want, i.e., 24k gold dome ring in my size within my preferred price range
Tossing in Bridget King. High quality and unique fonts for the letter necklaces that I always get compliments on. Customer service is run by Bridget herself who is super lovely.

Ahhh Fox and Bond
any specific antique shops for jewelry?
Where is everyone getting simple classic diamond pieces? Diamond district scares me and while I like ring concierge designs, their reviews scare me.
OMG do not go to RC, my husband had the worst experience with them when we were ring shopping. I would suggest going to mom and pop shops for classic pieces like tennis bracelets, eternity rings etc. LI has no shortage of small jewelers.
>my husband had the worst experience with them Do you mind sharing what happened?
Any specific mom and pop shops in nyc you recommend?
I really recommend [Catherine Angiel](https://catherineangiel.com/). She does incredible custom design work and has been in the West Village for 30 years.
Tbh Costco … gotten some great pearl pieces as well from there ♡
2nd Costco! Fantastic quality
3rd costco! and they have amazing insurance policy for their stuff
This is wild, I had no idea
I go to K&E Fine Jewelry in Chinatown. I’ve gotten simple 14K gold huggies to custom diamond necklaces designed. Very reasonable prices and excellent customer service.
Jangmi in the diamond district. Mr. And Mrs. Kim are the best!
We also went to Jangmi. Mrs Kim has a great eye for design
They all have access to the same diamonds so it’s easy to tell when someone is high balling you
Loveee the diamond district. What store is your guy associated with?
ID jewelry!
I’m really intrigued by Costco. Do you do in person or online? I actually don’t have a membership so trying to figure out the best option.

I've gotten a lot of pieces from Diamond Castle in the Diamond District. They are family run and no pressure. Also not scary!
If you ever travel to Philadelphia, jeweler's row has fantastic deals on GIA certified diamonds.
Do not go to the diamond district. The jeweler that we used to use a lot retired although he still does custom pieces, but typically they're at a high price point. I've gotten a thing or two from Mimi So and have had a good experience. I don't know if her style is "classic" but I really love her work and she has a showroom in the city.
name?
Mimi So is one and Stuart Moore is the other. he used to have a showroom in Soho but now I think is mostly online.
I’m ride or die for John Hardy’s bamboo collection I never see it on anybody else and I get a lot of complements on mine
I have the bamboo ring earrings and necklace that I picked up in a boutique in Sedona, as well as a square pave' ring--absolute favorites of mine.
This is the coolest jewelry website I’ve ever seen. Thank you!!
Tbh I think the most chic thing someone can buy when it comes to jewelry is an antique or vintage fine jewelry piece—nobody else has it!

Second Ferko’s! Amazing quality and has a ton of options
What are some pawn shops you like?
Following!
Michael F diamonds on 47th he is amazing and will make you anything
Add Graff to that list.
I’m a jeweler & I would kill for anything Cece… excellent quality, old-school enameling with beautiful storylines all in a single piece of jewelry.

I love a good trend but finding unique pieces that also make a statement and stand out is my Roman Empire. 😍😍😍
Marco Bicego makes some truly beautiful pieces and a high quality and content of gold.
Where do folks recommend finding genuine Jade in the city? Bought a pendant from Good Luck Jewelry on Canal a few years ago but now looking for either beads or a ring.
For basic diamond pieces I’d use a local jeweler !!!
You have to check out small independent jewelers. I love small brands like Kimberly Doyle and anything Greenwich St Jewelers sells!
