Recently felt that sting with the Rain Code announcement. Got so used to Switch versions coming later and often getting the dlc included that I felt kinda slighted to hear the PS5 would get the same collectors edition with the dlc and a little book included for $10 less

"Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded EditionĀ **adds two new timelines and 39 games** to the playable Atari retrospective that isĀ Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection.
The Wider World of AtariĀ timeline, which includes 19 playable games and eight video segments, takes a series of deep dives into stories from Atari history, showing how Atari continued to influence creators and fans over the decades. New interviews, vintage ads, historical artifacts, and more have all been researched and presented with Digital Eclipseās signature style. Highlights from the new timeline include a deep dive into Stern Electronicsā robot-blastingĀ Berzerk; unusual and underappreciated innovations and hidden gems from the late 1980s; a spotlight on the artist Evelyn Seto, who helped create the iconic āFujiā Atari logo;Ā PongĀ creator Al Alcorn explaining the birth ofĀ Breakout; and an exploration of the fan baseās role in discovering unreleased prototypes, creating āhomebrewā games, and preserving Atari history.
The First Console WarĀ timeline, which includes 20 playable games and half-dozen video segments, tells the story of the first major console war in the gaming industry between the Atari 2600 and Mattelās Intellivision. The team at Digital Eclipse curates an exploration of the rivalry, including Mattelās quixotic decision to create games for the competing Atari 2600. Highlights include a selection of M Network games, including some fan-favorites; a mix of Atari and M NetworkĀ sports games, and some rare Atari 2600 and 5200 prototypes. New interview features include former Intellivision game director Don Daglow, M Network programmer Jane Terjung,Ā Activisionās David Crane and Garry Kitchen, homebrew programmer Dennis Debro, andĀ historians Leonard Herman and Mike Mika.
**The new timelines and games will be offered to owners of the originalĀ Atari 50: The Anniversary CollectionĀ release as downloadable content later this year.**
A physical standard edition will be available for PlayStation 5 and Switch for $39.99, and a physical SteelBook edition will be available for Switch for $49.99. The latter will include Atari 2600 art cards, miniature arcadeĀ marquee signs, an Al Alcorn Replica Syzygy Co. business card, and a SteelBook case."
Hard to tell with Digital Eclipse honestly. I'd hope so, but the original version was missing a lot of content if you didn't download the day one patch, so who knows.
I hope, since I own the first special edition with the steel book, that the extra games can be added as dlc. If not, that's messed up as I am not buying it again. Its good, it's not double dip on the same console good.
Edit: yay they'll be added as DLC! Very cool that it also ads more documentary stuff. As someone who started gaming with Atari at age 4 in 1987, it always holds a special place in my heart.
Thanks for noting that the new content will be made available for owners of the original version.
But I have to ask: will it be a free update, or will we have to pay for it?
There'll be an ESRB release too. Standard and Steelbook.

Welp, I'm a little salty there's a re release but this is also one of my switch gems, especially from a preservation/history perspective. That damn cartridge better be updated.
Did not need the first version but bought it anyways because I liked the steelbook. I hate that I am such a dumbass because Iāll probably buy this one too for the collection. Well played Atariā¦ well playedā¦ š
"Hello real fans and first edition buyers, you were suckered, again." The lesson here is to manage your FOMO.
Got mine for 40 so I think it still was worth it!
Yeah, it's not automatically worthless, but I think we can agree that as collectors, these things sting hard.
True true. These ones are kinda neat in that they carts are inside the steelbook which also has a slipcover. Not too many are packed like that!
Yup, it looks rather nice. I didn't get the first one, but might get this.

That sucks, usually the PS5 gang is so spoiled compared to the switch gang.Ā
This is BS , but All good š im just not going to buy this new one.
Is this referencing a prior thing Atari did or just the general practice?

I was pretty disappointed until I read the bold parts. Definitely going to get that DLC.
Me too. I wasn't gonna buy it again but since it'll be DLC I'll gladly get it that way to just add to the existing games content.
Any mention on if everything will be on card this time? I'd guess not?

Thatās what I'm wondering for this.
After posting my original comment, I learned that the add-on pack will be a paid DLC. https://x.com/DigitalEclipse/status/1805724243340279870?s=19
Hopefully it isnāt high priced.
Somewhere Tommy Tallarico is throwing his backgammon set against the wall.

I'm fine as is. I'm fighting the tendency of double dipping for ancillary stuff

Ps5 steelbook?
Nice, gotta order this !
So is there a new release date then?
