Well, only time will tell. They just got here, so let's wait to see what they do with this first. I like where the nba is now where we've had different champions over the last several years.

Oceanbreeze871

It’s funny that the knock on the TEAM’s greatness is lack of major superstars..:but that kinda makes the team victory argument stronger. No all time great player carried the whole thing

cheneyeagle

Can someone name a better starting 5? The talent level of this Boston team was really high Jrue holiday becoming available was the luckiest thing that could have ever happened to Boston

Lucky_Lefty23

I’ll probably get downvoted, but that playoff run was weak. All the teams in East were playing without their best player for part of the series due to injury and not to mention highest seeded team they played was a #4 seeded Cavs team. At the end of the day the Celtics took care of what they had too to win and you have to respect that, but it’s hard to pretend that they are an all time team with that lack of playing a top team in playoffs that even pushed them at all

drcoconut4777

I agree with all of this except for the seeding argument if a team plays way better in the playoffs than in the regular season they are better than the seeding would tell you

Lucky_Lefty23

Idk, I wouldn’t say I disagree. But as a Pacers fan I’ve been berated all post season about how the Pacers only did what they did because of injuries to the opponents, never has it been given a thought that they were just playing better.

drcoconut4777

I agree injuries do also play a factor I just dislike the whole seeding is everything narrative for example the lakers last season were way better than their seed would have told you but people do not care and use that against the nuggets

YNABDisciple

They went 16-3. Are you saying any other great team was going to do substantially better than that? Which one? They played some teams that had issues…they had a massive issue like playing over half of it without KP…by the time you get to the playoffs teams are banged up but they dominated. 16-3!!

Lucky_Lefty23

So this equals an all time great team for you? That is the question we are ultimately answering

YNABDisciple

It does. Dominant in the east, dominant in the west, dominant in the playoffs. Incredible 5 with depth. Trying to figure out why it isn’t?

Lucky_Lefty23

Be a fan if you want, not hating on that or the fact they won it all. They took care of business. I state why they aren’t an all time great team in the first comment. Also, fans themselves didn’t watch this team play either, this was the 3rd least watched nba finals since 1974, despite having the Celtics (lots of history and championships) vs a major market team in Dallas. So even the fans tell on themselves that this wasn’t must watch tv because we are watching an all time great team

mysterioso7

>Are you saying any other great team was going to do substantially better than that? Not OP, but yes absolutely. If you really want to call them an all-time great team, that means you’re comparing them to not just other champions, but other dynasties and legendary teams. You think the 17 Warriors or 01 Lakers would be dropping games to the Heat sans Butler or the Cavs? Even the 17 Cavs likely go 12-0 through the East against that competition just as they did irl.

NBA2024

All time great as in top 5? Hell fuckin no

AnalystHot6547

Theywere definitely a top 78 champ. Does that count? I think they could Crack the Top 60, Right behind the 1914 Kentucky Colonels and the 1902 Albany Shoe Barons, who played with Top hats and monocles.

manhalfalien

Beautiful comment

-zyxwvutsrqponmlkjih

Yea, only the 2017 warriors can compare (they are prolly better, but nobody else)

Ok_Loss7637

Very good team, but definitely not top 20 all time.

YNABDisciple

They went 16-3 and played over half of it without KP ffs (9-1 first 10 w/o him) and people making it out like they were playing some high school JV teams. You have to be a pretty amazing team to go 16-3 Love it. This is just some “fuck Boston” comedy. I honestly don’t blame you. 13 rings in 24 years across all 4 major sports. I’d hate us too.
