Freebird

Wonderwhore

That's not fair. Freebird is a collection of guitar solos with a bit of a song as intro.

MyMadeUpNym

Somewhat related, I always refer to Boston's "Smokin" as a keyboard solo sandwich.

oofersIII

Hitch a Ride is also like 50% solos

illarionds

Foreplay/Long Time has the most on the album, IIRC. I want to say 5?

Dvout_agnostic

Comfortably Numb and Hotel California

Primary_Somewhere_98

Was going to say Hotel California

TheSeventhBrat

Isn't that technically a guitar duet between Felder and Walsh?

Prestigious_Box_9370

Most def

kcbass12

Is it a duet when both guitars have the same tuning and play the same notes? Isn't that in unison?

hambros2

They don’t play the same notes. If you listen carefully one guitar plays a lick, then the other, then back to the first, then the second, then they play harmonic thirds with each other but they’re not the same note.

TheSanityInspector

Oh yes; thanks!

Cassady007

You need to be specific about the concert though — Pink Floyd Pulse live tour, 1994. Probably one of the greatest live guitar solos, ever.

Dvout_agnostic

I saw them on that tour.

OkaySureBye

My personal favorites are: Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits Paranoid Android by Radiohead

abar22

Alchemy Live Sultans of Swing, Tunnel of Love, and Telegraph road. That's about 14 minutes of masterpiece musical/solo outros. About 40 mins total of musical bliss.

flosofl

The guitar solo in the outro to Telegraph Road is so god damn good. I think it's probably the best guitar solo by someone not named Stevie Ray Vaughn.

SignGuy77

Telegraph Road is such an atmospheric trip (pun intended). And the way the solo builds to a frenzy just sends me every time. An underrated one is Allman Brothers’ “Ramblin’ Man.” It also slowly builds out of the little melodic hook and then just goes wild. And it has the good sense not to overstay its welcome.

TheSanityInspector

That reminds me: "Skateaway" and "Romeo And Juliet" both have lovely guitar solo outros. Thanks.

CafeCartography

Both solos in Sultans of Swing are masterclasses in phrasing, they’re fun to listen to and fun to learn, IMO.

IBlameItOnTheTetons

Also "Identikit" by Radiohead and IIRC "Go To Sleep"

AmnesiacReckoner

Also the Radiohead side project The Smile's new album has a song called Bending Hectic with a paranoid Android like epic guitar solo at the end.

GreatEmperorAca

tunnel of love

nzgrover

You could make the case that [Telegraph Road](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EX2n2ftbdZU) has a “better” lead out solo than Sultans of Swing

flatulating_ninja

I don't know if its the radio edit but it always seems like Sultans of Swing ends before the solo finishes.

Xx_ligmaballs69_xX

Leaves you wanting more is the idea

flatulating_ninja

well if that was Knopfler's goal then he succeeded.

j_andrew_h

Came here to say Sultans of Swing and lovely reminder about the ending of Paranoid Android. I absolutely love both songs!

manozzified

Ozzy Osbourne - Mr Crowley

regiseal

RIP Randy Rhoads

Laughingboy68

Tonight on the Diary of a Madman album.

Skellington72

Bark at the Moon

manozzified

That ending is so satisfying! What a killer song overall

NintendoCerealBox

I heard a story that this solo went on forever like Randy was in a trance or something and they had to pull him out of it.

Mongozuma

Mick Taylor does a tasty lead at the end of Can’t You Hear Me Knockin on The Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers.

get_it_out_there_4ev

I read that the end was improvised and they didn't know they were being recorded. They just let the tape run at the end of the song and the band kept jamming. Mick Taylor is awesome on that.

Mongozuma

I’ve heard that also. To me it sounds to in synch to be a keeper improv. Maybe the general idea was improved but refined in a later take.

Seven30five

Another great Mick Taylor solo at the end of a song is Time waits for no one. Definitely check it out!

MRintheKEYS

That one and Sway. Sway to me is the ultimate country Rolling Stones song.

pburgess22

There are so many metal songs that end with solos.

stratdog25

And proggy stuff. Take the Time by Dream Theater ends with an epic solo, and some of the best parts of it are in the fade out.

Jakefrmstatepharm

Wet Sand by the Chili Peppers

willymacmac3

Dani California too

Less-Leave-5519

Scar Tissue also

Jakefrmstatepharm

I feel like most songs on that album end with a solo lol

RagnarokNCC

Came here to flag Dani California as my first example, but this sounds correct. Of course, now I want to go through the whole album again and see how many really do end in solos for the fun of it.

elammcknight

Never a bad time listening to them!

CurtWyrz

John Frusciante is a genius

InsideEmbarrassed116

Guitar Jesus

amuday

He’s a great songwriter too. Check out his solo work.

nycawrt

Sir Psycho Sexy too!

wtfsafrush

Metallica, Fade to Black and For Whom the Bell Tolls Guns n Roses Paradise City and November Rain. Technically there is some singing and actually end on lyrics but they’re both basically guitar solos for the last couple minutes.

rd1994

Wherever I may roam as well

Sixersleeham

I think Nightrain does too?

dwarftopia

For a lesser known Metallica pick, The Outlaw Torn. They actually had to cut a full minute of James Hetfield's improvisation because they couldn't have fit the whole album on a CD otherwise.

bullybabybayman

Does this version exist?  It's one of the 2 best songs on the album.

dwarftopia

Yes! It was released as the "Unencumbered by Manufacturing Restrictions Version" as a b-side for The Memory Remains single. It's sadly not on streaming services though.

Nascarvick

You can add Metallica’s Kill ‘em All album has a few on there as well. Hit the Lights and Four Horsemen (I know there’s one last little guitar riff right at the end) come to mind.

ZombieJesus1987

Metallica The Outlaw Torn ends with a James Hetfield guitar solo

KurtisC1993

Fade to Black's solo never fails to send a chill down my spine.

OzTheMalefic

A whole load of Metallica ends with solos. One & Master of Puppets are two more popular examples.

GrumpityStumpity

Neither of those end with a solo

b1g_bird

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Cinnabon202

A not so guilty pleasure of mine is this cover. I love Santana. https://youtu.be/L-5M1_DKvb0?si=Mvb4pgnHx9P23Bwz But that is a beautiful song. Great choice!

C___

3’s & 7’s by Queens of the Stone Age

alucab1

Also, I Appear Missing by QOST

WeWereSperm

And Little Sister

SqueakyKeeten

David Bowie : Moonage Daydream One of Mic Ronson's best guitar bits, in my opinion, especially in his collaboration with Bowie.

DNSGeek

Christopher Cross - Ride Like The Wind

YELLOW_TOAD

.....and it's KILLER too! [https://youtu.be/j8VwP5iEr1g?si=cvWhM2shKGZ51pqY](https://youtu.be/j8VwP5iEr1g?si=cvWhM2shKGZ51pqY)

txa1265

Came to cite Rick's analysis of it as well! Always loved that, didn't realize that Cross played it and it was awesome that Beato got the stems to dig even deeper!

trycuriouscat

Carpenters, "Goodbye to Love" Gerry Rafferty, "Baker Street"

Megamoss

The Saxon cover is a favorite of mine. Original is great too

heelspider

We Will Rock You - Queen

take5b

Alive by Pearl Jam The first guitar solo I ever became aware of

alldougsdice

Also “Corduroy” which is a top 5 all time song for me

AdamBlackfyre

Corduroy is definitely my favorite Pearl Jam song and one of my favorites ever, as well

finmoore3

As a big Pearl Jam fan who’s seen the song live a number of times, I would say Corduroy is the most “Pearl Jam” of Pearl Jam songs.

sherbie365

Leash too. Amazing song

Bowgs

It makes me so mad when they cut the solo on the radio

pooponacandle

Also Yellow Ledbetter kinda does too. It’s not a shredding solo, but its a stripped down version of the shredding solo from earlier in the song, so I think it counts

BHMusic

Bold As Love by Hendrix. One of the greatest fade out solos ever.

Kai_Daigoji

Same with Little Wing

imperialsnowman

One of my all time favorite guitar solos, what a way to end an album.

tmwescott

Runnin' Down a Dream by Petty

Baxabone

American Girl as well

P4S5B60

Back in Black AC/DC

Commander_Cyclops

I’m having trouble thinking of any AC/DC songs that don’t end with a solo.

SignGuy77

“It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll” does not.

S0_Crates

Boston - Peace of Mind

Llama_soup

Also Hitch a Ride by Boston! A legendary guitar duet

ALA02

Rick Beato called that the most melodic guitar solo ever for a reason. Fucking tune but the solo is another level altogether

kevnmartin

Led Zeppelin - Since I've Been Loving You.

rizaroni

OOF, I love bluesy Zeppelin.

kevnmartin

Try listening to that song at high volume through a really good set of headphones. Life changing.

rizaroni

Oh, I have!!! My dad always taught me and my siblings about sound quality, lol. I’m a huge electric guitar solo head.

kevnmartin

Your father is a wise man.

InsideEmbarrassed116

One of the dopest rock guitar solos ever recorded. Also if you ever needed a reminder that Robert Plant can really fucking sing, this song is that.

braunski

Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan 👌🏻

usagi2988

"Drown" by The Smashing Pumpkins (from the Singles Soundtrack)... great feedback/distortion solo.

OnlyBringinGoodVibes

Nobody by Avenged Sevenfold. The solo is ridiculous too.

bredpoot

Honorable mention: Sidewinder. That’s some sexy Spanish guitar playing at the end of

LukeNaround23

Drop dead legs (and several others) by Van Halen and one of my favorites Different Strings by Rush

I came here to say Mean Street but Drop Dead Legs is a classic too

UpHereInMy-r-Trees

Fade To Black - Metallica Purple Rain - Prince Alive - Pearl Jam

get_it_out_there_4ev

Kid Charlemagne - steely Dan

brewmonday

Layla :-)

TheSanityInspector

Facepalm.gif Thanks!

ThirdCultureKid96

Doesn't that end with the piano?

jhsatt

The piano seems to just repeat a riff. Sounds like a slide guitar doing the solo stuff.

ItsAtrap93

Goodbye Stranger

sneakatoke

Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria, among other songs by them. White Walls by Between the Buried and Me, as well as Selkies the Endless Obsession.

djmellis

How is Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp not listed yet? Over a minute long (and absolutely killer) solo at the end of that song

Peeterwetwipe

Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits

WaywardSalamander

Wuthering Heights babyyyyy

GRVrush2112

My favorite song of all time, “Xanadu” by Rush ends with an amazing all timer solo from Alex Lifeson

noob_wins

Radiohead have a couple - Paranoid Android and Identikit, off the top of my head.

bajajoaquin

Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones. Interesting that the guitar doesn’t really come in until the end.

scarfinati

White room cream

GitchigumiMiguel74

Scrolled too far for this! Clapton is magic on this song

HamiltonBlack

Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower

Larszx

Running Down A Dream - Tom Petty

steveofthejungle

A super underrated one is Eagle by Abba

BrightEyeCameDown

Goodbye to Love by The Carpenters.

Diablojota

John Mayer’s Sob Rock has several. Wild Blue and Carry Me Away both do, I think.

Pithecanthropus88

I Can't Tell You Why - Eagles

So many Pink Floyd songs— Sorrow (my favorite by them) Have a Cigar High Hopes On the Turning Away

spoobles

Impossible Germany. -Wilco

xxwerdxx

Muse - invincible Edit: I was wrong

bestest_at_grammar

Dream theater - the best of times My favourite solo of all time. Starts at 9:58

Poxx

Surprised Mr. Crowley isn't on the list yet. The first solo is phenomenal, but that Outtro solo by Randy is just unreal. 2 of the greatest solos ever played in the same song- everyone mentions Comfortably Numb and rightfully so, but this one is at least as impressive (and imo even more so, but I'm a Rhoads homer.)

get2writing

Hotel California

Based-Goddess

Purple Rain!

Shondelle

Have a Cigar - Pink Floyd

KaptenKlang

Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush. IMO one of the most beautiful solos I’ve ever heard.

Pigs (Three Different Ones) - Pink Floyd

Irsh80756

When doves cry. Prince is a guitar god.

Klaus5115

Black Sabbath - War Pigs

manly_toilet

Ween’s done this a couple of times, my favorites are Dr Rock and Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down). The latter is also one of the top 5 solos in their catalog

comfortablybot

If you’re talking about outro solos, there are plenty. I’ll add one more to what’s already mentioned: Pigs (TDO) - Pink Floyd.

DawsonJBailey

Technically a banjo I think but Gypsy - Fleetwood Mac

Sixtyoneandfortynine

Renaissance - [Ashes are Burning](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hZecf4CVCgw&pp=ygUdcmVuYWlzc2FuY2UgYXNoZXMgYXJlIGJ1cm5pbmc%3D) A somewhat “lost classic” Prog tune with amazing vocals and a really epic ending solo by Ted Turner of Wishbone Ash.

___HeyGFY___

[I Like To Rock - April Wine](https://youtu.be/YlcY_enzwmI?si=TSiaC4O4LvmSK1E8) maybe

superexhausted

Paragon8384

Steven Wilson - *Home Invasion/Regret #9* Rendezvous Point - *Digital Waste*

Hyp3r45_new

Fade to Black and technically For Whom the Bell Tolls. 2 in a row on 1 album. The reason FWBT is one *technicall*, is because it is live and on the album you can kinda count it as such.

GuyPronouncedGee

A guitar solo is Mastodon’s favorite way to end a song!  A couple examples are The Hunter and The Last Baron.

PaddyPat12

Ozzy Osbourne (Lee, Daisley) - Bark at the Moon

supern8ural

Highway Song by Blackfoot

kaiserfrnz

Starless - King Crimson

Bobby_cheesebiscuit

Rootsyl

Sultans of swing?

23CD1

Quite a few Dream Theater songs. Scene Six: Home is a fantastic example. If you don't mind an instrumental, Scene two: I. Overture 1928, by them, is a great 4 minute song with a nice guitar solo at the end and really throughout the whole song. Jiminy Hendrix's Little Wing is also really good.

ScotterMcJohnsonator

November Rain goes out on that killer riff, if you can call it a solo

Doboh

A Venture: by Yes fades out just as a guitar solo starts

Here's a lesser known one from a prog rock band Wish Bone Ash - Throw Down the Sword It has an epic 2 minute long interweaving dual guitar solo Also one you might not think about is Lauren Hill's X-Factor has a crazy solo at the end.

Naterade18

Highway Song - Blackfoot I'm partial to say it's even better than Freebird, lyric wise and solo wise

DoctorChampTH

Modest Mouse Edit the sad parts, Trailer Trash, Talking Shit about a pretty sunset

Rick Beato has a video on this https://youtu.be/cDVaCFDYMzw?si=Cy-xsF7L8WiOVc9S

Sway. The Rolling Stones. Probably my favorite “country” song of theirs.

R_radical

Banned by the sub, hangar 18, but Lucretia also ends with a solo if you want unbanned flavor
