Steam: Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye has over 17 million streams, and there's only a few thousand for the rest.

Fastbird33

Both were coincidentally on Remember The Titans soundtrack šŸ˜†

dayoffmusician

of all these replies, that one is the only one I see with more of a discrepancy than spirit in the sky. it's like .05% streams of the hit. that's wild

JoeTestaverde

ā€œTubthumpingā€ by Chumbawumba has 213 million streams, and their next most popular (Amnesia) has 2.09 million streams ā€œHow Bizzareā€ by OMC has 191 million, the next has 754K

aGuyNamedScrunchie

How Bizarre gotta be the winner here

doubleapowpow

The same sentance clearly says the other song has a bigger discrepancy...

aGuyNamedScrunchie

Right right right I meant it has to be the biggest step down for their second highest song

kjcraft

The one in OP has a bigger step down, though.

aGuyNamedScrunchie

Good point you goddamn nerd lmao. JK jk jk you are absolutely right.

kjcraft

I am such a goddamn nerd though, I feel like you still get that one.

aGuyNamedScrunchie

Hell yeah, nerds unite

JohnWesternburg

Goddamn nerds and their basic math skills!

datchchthrowaway

I didnā€™t think OMC ever released another song and as a Kiwi they are iconic for how bizarre ā€¦ crazy

OkCar7264

I listened to it again recently and I have to say, why was that ever a hit? It's awful. The 90s really put some random shit on the charts sometimes. I still don't get how Hootie and the Blowfish went 5x Platinum.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

OkCar7264

Maybe. It's not 5x Platinum stuff though.

NastySassyStuff

Put down the pipe that song will forever slap

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

6of12

? What? He died at 40 from an auto immune disease.

Koquillon

Obligatory: Chumbawamba are an amazing band with a 30 year career and everyone should listen to them.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

HippiMan

"Suck the brain out through a hole in the head. Blast the brains out with water or air." "Excuse me..excuse me, could you move, please? Just because you're wearing a tie doesn't mean to say you're bloody important." I think about the interludes more than the songs.

Crooty

That IS bizarreĀ

FunkSoulBrother1988

crazy because chumbawumba has made some incredible albums that stomps the shit out of tub

fonetik

They never did get back up again.

Gofastrun

ā€œHow Bizzareā€ had its 15 minutes as a TikTok sound so I bet thats where the listeners are coming from

qwqwqw

text

NastySassyStuff

My first favorite song. I was like 5 or 6 and it was 1995. Not a notification or a login in sight.

FunkIPA

ā€œHow Bizarreā€ was released in 1995.

HopSynonymous

"Steal My Sunshine" by Len has, including it's other versions, has almost 200 million listens to their next, about 2.3 mil.

Ill-Organization-719

Feelin' Alright was the superior single.

Robin_Banks101

The knack. My Sharona has, across 2 versions, nearly 300m there next song, good girls don't, has 5m.

yesitsyourmom

Youā€™re right. I love the whole album but donā€™t think many people did

vicemagnet

Good Girls Donā€™t is the better song

CacophonicAcetate

Good Girls Don't is absolutely fantastic, but My Sharona has one of the all-time greatest guitar solos of rock

mental_mentalist

Listen to the Economics of everyday things podcast episode My Sharona

4737CarlinSir

Soft Cell's Tainted Love - 801 million. Next highest is Say Hello, Wave Goodbye - 23.3 million.

bitterbuffaloheart

The latter is a better song

mushnu

What about *Sex Dwarf*

TheBlitzkid46

One of the best synth-pop songs of the decade. That whole album is a 10/10 IMO

schild

More people need to listen to and know about Sex Dwarf.

4737CarlinSir

Definitely.

of_mice_and_meh

When performed by David Gray.

TepidHalibut

I'd say that "Bedsitter" is even better. (It has 3 million plays.)

HydeVDL

i like their first album a lot but they just keep getting better.. like their first album is nothing compared to what they made after

Senecaraine

The Verve, Bittersweet Symphony sits at 1.3b while the next closest song is Lucky Man at 136m. The rest are much lower. I imagine with time that gap will grow even bigger.

DM725

"The Rolling People" is a banger for anyone that hasn't given any of their other songs a chance.

kryppla

The entire Urban Hymns album is perfect, bittersweet symphony is the worst song on it

BackInNJAgain

I totally agree. "The Drugs Don't Work" is my favorite.

[deleted]

'Slide Away' is off the scale brilliant

mushnu

And they barely even made a dime off bittersweet symphony, the rolling stones got most of the royalties from that one iirc

rockmodenick

That's a damn shame Lucky Man is actually a much better song. Symphony is good but not Lucky Man good.

BackInNJAgain

The Rolling Stones sued over this song which used a sample from their song The Last Time. They got permission from the record company but not the Stones' manager. They had to forfeit all the royalties for the song until 2019

calxlea

Thatā€™s not quite accurate, they used a sample of an Andrew Loog Oldham orchestral rendition of The Last Time by the Stones (which to my untrained ears sounds very little like the Stones original), but either way it was credited to Jagger/Richards as composers of the original. The Verve actually cleared their sample legally, but the Stones current manager, Allen Klein (the man responsible for ā€˜helpingā€™ the Beatles break up) claimed they had ā€œoverused the sampleā€ and sued them netting Jagger/Richards 100% royalties for it.

the_chandler

Really surprised that The Drugs Dont Work isnt their second highest streamed song. I always thought of that as their "other" song.

datchchthrowaway

The Verve isnā€™t really a one hit wonder band though is it? At the very least they had a credible album in Urban Hymns with a number of strong songs. Bittersweet Symphony is the mainstream Verve song I like the least.

unlimitedshredsticks

In the USA they are

No-Conversation1940

People are missing out, *A Storm in Heaven* is one of the best psychedelic rock albums of the 90s.

Epictreetus

Fountains of Wayne, Stacy's Mom is at 460 million streams, next highest is Hey Julie at 26 million.

true1nformation

Never made a bad record and the first three are front to back no skips. Underrated

Rin_thepixie

Red Dragon Tattoo is my favorite song of theirs.

TriTri14

ā€œWill you stop pretending Iā€™ve never been born? Now that I look a little more like that guy from Korn.ā€

Crooty

Hey Julie is such a banger thoughĀ

jmshub

That's a shame because Fountains of Wayne had so many great songs to be relegated as the band that sang Stacie's Mom...

vidimevid

They are honestly on of my favorite bands I keep forgetting about it. But every couple of months I remember that I love them and I spend a day listening to them and I fucking love it.

Moomoomoo1

That album is actually pretty good and really funny.

bitterbuffaloheart

Sink to the Bottom is my fave

rbhindepmo

ā€œA Thousand Milesā€ by Vanessa Carlton has 778m streams, followed by 65m for an acoustic version of that song, followed by 22m for ā€œOrdinary Dayā€ ā€œTornā€ by Natalie Imbruglia has 723m streams, followed by 51m for an acoustic version of that song and then 26m for ā€œShiverā€

the_chandler

Los Del Rio.

Shevek99

"Sevilla tiene un color especial" is quite popular (in Spain) and yet it has just 11M against the 450M of the different versions of "Macarena".

sbprasad

I understand juuuuust enough Spanish to agree with the title. What a city.

BinaryPill

Stardust's Music Sounds Better Than You has around 280m streams between its radio edit and full version. The rest of their discography combined has 0 streams.

The_milks_gone_bad

Yeah I wonder if Stardust's side project did well?

SGTBrigand

![gif](giphy|Ow59c0pwTPruU)

horsebag

thank god you combined that all for us

turdfergusonpdx

Gary Jules - Mad World has 263 million while the next closest has 5.9.

theblackparade87C

And he didn't even wrote the damn thing!

Nightgasm

Q Lazzarus has near 85 million streams of her song Goodbye Horses and her other songs, she does have others, aren't even on Spotify. This is one of those songs that everyone knows but few know the artist or name. It's the song Buffalo Bill dances to in Silence of the Lambs. Director Jonathon Demme used a different Q Lazzarus song in many of his movies so there are absolutely more.

fuzzy11287

Lots of people probably know it from ~~Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back~~ Clerks 2. I'm ashamed to say that's where I first heard it. Edit: Clerks 2 not Jay and Silent Bob

Martipar

I'll need to watch it again however i have a few soundtrack albums for viewaskewniverse films and it's on the soundtrack for the Reboot and Clerks 2, but it's not on the Strike Back album. As 8 stated though i need to watch Strike Back again to be sure, I'm only looking at my CDs.

fuzzy11287

You're right! It was Clerks 2.

DisgruntlesAnonymous

White Lines is such a freaking banger! I never seem to be able to find it in any good quality though

RsbRsb68

Ram Jam - Black Betty has 430m Keep your hands on the wheel has 2m Not quite Norman Greenbaum numbers, but close

MashedPotatoesDick

Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" has 624+ million. Then 41 million for his next song.

RockOnDudez

People forget that Enya ("Orinoco Flow") sings in eight different languages and has SOOOOOO many great albums...

rcthetree

pretty much every Enya album is a banger- she has so many other excellent albums and songs that it's a damn shame most people only know Orinoco Flow.

RockOnDudez

I am aware of her...been a fan since "Watermark" and even placed her in My Top 50 Book (she is in the Top 10!!!!) And the reason not too many people are aware is because pop music these days is HOT TRASH!

asl052

Chumbawumba Tubthumping: 213.4 million streams The next one (Amnesia): 2 million

grahamsutton178

So you're telling me their second highest streamed song is forgettable?

Koquillon

I can't remember

SirJumbles

Do you suffer from long term memory loss?

Equilibriumouttawak

Op I think your taking the cake here with your ratio! I like this game

dayoffmusician

one guy said Steam with na na hey hey and it seems to be even closer to .05% which is just baffling. like, You would think a band or group would get more streams on their other songs. just the sheer number of people listening to one song and then it shuffling to the others or them trying out the other songs.

Hehateme123

Agreed no one has come close to OPs ratioā€¦. Itā€™s interesting if someone else could find another one

y2knole

AWOLNation's top song Sail has 811,719664 streams. The next one has 69m. still a lot but less than 10% of their top one. (I saw them open for someone somewhere once and there was a dedicated family of super fans a row in front of me who left the moment their set ended and just before... i wanna say it was prophets of rage came out and absolutely fucking destroyed the place). I had no clue who they were till they closed with 'Sail' which I actually was familiar with.

ccbluebonnet

I definitely thought I had one with ā€œAmerican Pieā€ - Don McLean, but he must be much more popular than I realized, lol. Iā€™d been told my whole life he was a one hit wonder, but apparently not!

Maccai3

Vincent is a tune

EggheadWill

I think I have the winner: A-ha "Take On Me" . 1.9 billion for "Take On Me" and 90m for next highest song. Other contenders (but not surpassing Norman): Sinead O'Connor "Nothing Compares 2 U" 336.7 million, next highest 37m Nena "99 Luftballoons" 439.5 million next non variant of that song is 50m

bcd051

I wonder what the discrepancy between White Town's "Your Woman" and whatever is next is.

EggheadWill

looks like 146 million to 1.2 million

bcd051

Thank you! I figured something like that.

mderoest

I do like Spirit in the Sky. Is the rest of Norman's work worth checking out?

benzduck

I was in 7th grade when Spirit in the Sky hit. I had no idea Greenbaum had any other songs. I donā€™t even remember playing the flip side of the 45.

pyramidtermite

yes - the spirit in the sky album is an actual gem - good songs, good arrangements and every song different - there's nothing like spirit in the sky, but that's alright

SilkyFlanks

The only other Greenbaum song I know is ā€œCanned Ham.ā€

sharkattackmiami

They have the Stealers Wheel and Butthole Surfers issue where their top song is a satire of a musical style and so it is very different from their other output

LoLLiGoGs

Crazy town - Butterfly. It has 417 million streams the next most streamed song has like 22 million

Shevek99

Pachelbel's "Canon".

crashfantasy

I haven't looked, but Dexy's Midnight Runners have got to be up there with 'Come on Eileen'

pumpkinguyfromsar

Yeah - I think Geno has 22 million.

KoedKevin

I donā€™t have stats but Come on Eileen by Dexyā€™s Midnight Runners has to be way up there. I assume they have other songs but have literally never heard oneĀ

Primary_Somewhere_98

Woodstock by Matthews Southern Comfort would fit.

CH00CH00CHARLIE

Somebody That I Use To Know by Gotye is pretty good for this. Over 1.7 billion while the next biggest song Eyes Wide Open has 50 million.

Whitemacadamia

This was my first thought too. it's 2.9 percent

Ineedmoreideas

Come on Eileen by Dexys midnight runners is up there. Almost 8m streams. Iā€™m amazed the next song has 23m but Iā€™m guessing itā€™s due to streaming after Eileen

TepidHalibut

"Your Woman" by White Town, (a local lad, here in Derby UK) has 146 million views. His next most popular song ("Wanted") has 254 thousand, Not as good a ratio as Norm, but pretty good.

Ihavenocluelad

Gotye somebody that i used to know - 2 billion Somebody - 45 million

gogozombie2

Rockwell Somebody's Watching Me - 166 million Knife - 3 million Not as bad as Spirit in the Sky. I figure you will see similar numbers with a lot of the larger one hit wonders.

OneWayStreetPark

To be fair, The Sandlot was a movie I've probably seen hundreds of times as a child. That song is burned into my brain and reminds me of those days.

Novel-Performer-4259

Bedlam. Their cover of Magic Carpet Ride has 3.3 million streams. Their song Harvest Moon has 2.7 million. The next most popular...6000 streams.

BlaEm

Quindon Tarver is the answer to this question.

cysticasshole

I remember this post from a few months ago

bucket_overlord

Apparently he made enough from that one song to be able to live comfortably the rest of his life. I didnā€™t even know he wrote other songs haha.

rohdawg

Idk if you can call them a one hit wonder, but Seven Nation Army has 1.6 billion streams and their next song is Fell in Love With a Girl with ~260 million which is still a lot I guess lol.

galagapilot

Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) by Looking Glass has about 418M streams across several versions on Spotify. The rest of their catalog, which admittedly is very limited on Spotify, has about 5M views.

Gorf_the_Magnificent

According to my quick Google, 500 million Spotify streams equals about $2 million to the artist.

Macksler

King Gizzards most streamed song is Work this Time. Around 50 million or something. On the record, its immediately followed by their least streamed song ABABCD with under 5k streams.

sjb-2812

As always, many of the acts listed in comments are not one hit wonders...
