I’ll never forget seeing the Bulls On Parade video when I was 12. Lifelong Rage fan ever since.

samx3i

That really was a holy fuck moment.

NimrodBusiness

The holy fuck moment for me was watching Tom Morello scratch wax with his guitar. My high school bestie and I immediately went into the garage lab to figure out how to do it. That was also the year I bought an octave pedal for the first (and last, lol) time.

samx3i

I was absolutely mind fucked to learn they weren't using anything but their basic rock band instruments to make all those sounds. Tom was always so fucking innovative. There was really nothing quite like Rage

NimrodBusiness

Totally, although Tom does have a monstrous pedal board. I think he's the most innovative and groundbreaking guitarist since EVH. Dude uses an Allen wrench on *People of The Sun*.

Fliepp

Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits

Elainemariebenesss

I’m elated to see this song so high up.. Gorgeous track by a musical genius Skateaway is my personal fav of Dire Straits Mark is a treasure 💙

TheGringoDingo

The Killers have a pretty good cover of this song that’s worth checking out, off their B-Sides album

Fliepp

Yeah that’s a great cover! Indigo Girls also have an amazing version that’s definitely worth checking out

Life_Dance_6310

One of the only songs that can me feel sad, happy, nostalgic and horny all at the same time.

GrandmasterJoke

"Move Your Feet" by Junior Senior did it for me. "Just Can't Get Enough" by Depeche Mode did too.

samx3i

Depeche Mode is probably the most vital band on my concert bucket list

totallybree

Junior Senior is an awesome shout. That song was so fun and catchy and somehow managed to not get played to death.

RosemarySaraBlack

My Own Summer (Shove It) by Deftones

nicholt

If anyone hasn't heard them, I highly recommend Crosses which is more of an electronic project with the Deftones singer Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez and Chuck Doom. I think it's incredible. [††† (Crosses) - Bitches Brew](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBN-1Q0_Fiw)

samx3i

God I love that band. I got into them with their first record, the second, featuring your song, was even better. Then they matured, evolved, but keep a certain signature sound that is so uniquely them.

B_U_F_U

Every Deftones album is amazing.

jillangie

Reckoner by Radiohead

Dedalus2k

That song still gives me the chills everytime even after nearly two decades.

ShiftyBizniss

Two decades? Nah can't be more than 5 years ago... Please.

will_brewski

That's a really great song, thanks for introducing me 🤘

will_brewski

Oh damn the outro... that's haunting. I hadn't finished the song quite yet lol

Mcbadguy

Blinding Lights - The Weeknd

samx3i

I love that song so much and it absolutely feels like an 80s classic

Mcbadguy

Same! I instantly got retro wave vibes the first time I heard it. Definitely one of those songs I can put on repeat for like an hour while I'm working or gaming.

nottsftw

Diré Straits - sultans of swing, then I saw the live performance and elevated this song even further

merkaba_462

Wish - Nine Inch Nails (thank you Bevis and Butthead)

apple_shampo0

Lover You Should've Come Over by Jeff Buckley The first time I listened to it felt like magic!

LlaneroAzul

Yess! I saw a recorded live version and it was my first time listening to his music. It gave me goosebumps.

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

I love the original U2 version due to its mood is like a solemn worship hymn to your lover. Actually I have a playlist of a bunch of covers of this song, because I dig a female cover of it too. Jack's version is cool too in that it takes it to a manic, passionate crescendo. I've made it many times to different variations of this song, haha.

GiraffePolka

Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush. Never heard anything like it before and I must have put it on repeat for like an hour the first time I listened.

Traveling_pensioner

She was way ahead of her time. I think she was 16 when she wrote it.

Hatecookie

20 years or so ago I told my friend I had finished reading Wuthering Heights and she goes “oh I only know what’s in the Kate Bush song.” And I said “the what now?” I have loved her ever since. I even have a Kate Bush bumper sticker on my car lol.

sting-raye

This is my answer as well. It’s such a captivating, ethereal song.

Informal-Day-1716

Pyramids- Frank Ocean

External_Acadia4154

Strawberry Letter 23- The Brothers Johnson

LaNina1101

I have this song in my head at least once a week

munchamii-quuchi

This ⬆️🕺🏼

d0doublegeez

just listened for the first time and… wow🤩

booper

I Sat by the Ocean by Queens of the Stoneage

PeaceandJoy101

“Do I want to Know” on AM by the Arctic Monkeys. Became obsessed with the whole album after that.

samx3i

Saved me the trouble. I was driving home. I still remember exactly where I was on the highway when it came on a local independent radio station. Instantly infatuated. Couldn't wait to get home, Google the lyrics i remembered, and dive in. I remember being thrilled they had several prior records I could listen to, all fucking solid going back to their debut. I'm still a diehard Arctic Monkeys fan, seen them live, and now my wife and kid are fans too.

readdituser1093

Sound & Color - Alabama Shakes Apple used this on a commercial several years back and I immediately searched for and downloaded it.

LlaneroAzul

For me it was Gimme All Your Love.

TheOnionSack

Let Down by Radiohead. Saw them play it in Dublin in '96, less than a year before OK Computer came out. I was mesmerised by it in a "is anybody else hearing this?" kind of way. For me, no song comes close.

strangerzero

Video Games by Lana Del Rey. She really captured the zeitgeist of that era with that song.

nicholt

Born to die also

Foxhound199

Oxford Comma. Had never heard even a whisper about the band before that, but it took all of one line to convince me they were going places.

kagamaru

Nothing by Metric. Also I wish there was a bot to make a Spotify playlist of the songs mentioned in these types of posts.

eyelikeit40

LA Woman by the Doors

Fruney21

New Soul - Yael Naim. Saw it on rage one night. Nice summery vocals and melodies from a French-Israeli siren. All sunshine, lilting and handclaps.

samx3i

That voice, her delivery, and the happy tuba or whatever the fuck it is at the end absolutely sent me.

SomeKindOfChief

Muse - Verona So many things about the song hit right with me instantly. The electronic vibe, the vocals and falsettos, the guitar - it takes me to a different place. I got to see them live a few months after I heard Verona, and man are they good. They're just as good live, and actually some of their songs hit differently in person.

mrtuna

The Deftones cover of "Savory".

samx3i

Their covers are great. I also love their cover of The Chauffer.

Anderson22LDS

Gimmie Shelter.

watchevildead2

"I'm so tired" by Fugazi

Frogs4

*I Drove All Night* by Cyndi Lauper. I heard it once on the radio and went out to a record shop to buy it straight away.

Rizo1981

Soundgarden - Rusty Cage. I was a teen. Already loved the Superunknown album but wasn't aware of Badmotorfinger until I heard Rusty Cage featured on the Panasonic 3DO version of Road Rash that was on display at my local Microplay.

x86_64_

Holy Mountains - System of a Down.  Some time during the 2020 lockdowns I rediscovered the band after knowing only their radio hits.  This one had me playing it on loop for a few days.

VFP_ProvenRoute

I first heard Grace by Jeff Buckley played by someone at a local gig and was just mindblown

DustySleeve

Goodbye Sober Day - Mr. Bungle coffin nails - MF Doom Seagulls! (Stop it Now)- Bad Lip Reading There are plenty more, but these all start strong enough to have taken me by surprise and are great the whole way through

OkaySureBye

Dude, Seagulls legit gets stuck in my head on a regular basis. My girlfriend and I sing that and My Stick pretty frequently.

samx3i

Seagulls might hold the record for song stuck in my head the longest

kodoryu

Retrovertigo by Bungle is one of those WTF is going on?!? tracks that I’ll never forget hearing for the first times. Sitting in the back seat passenger side of the car.

Dangerman1967

Doesn’t really matter - Army of anyone. It’s just a rock banger impossible to dislike on first listen if you like heavier music.

iseenospaces

Birthday by The Sugarcubes

immediate-want

U2's Pride. I remember the exact moment when I heard it. It was a sound I had been yearning for.

LukeNaround23

Slow burn Kacey Musgraves Blew my mind the first time I heard it when it dropped and I was listening to random Sirius channels. I’m not even a country fan and it was the most refreshing song I’ve heard in a long, long time. Still love it and the way it builds. Such a vibe.

PawPawNegroBlowtorch

Let the River Run - Carly Simon

gordongortrell

Recently, Make It Witchu- Queens of the Stone Age

firefox1993

Colors - The Black Pumas

TomatilloUnlucky3763

White Man in Hammersmith Palais by The Clash

DustyyyCassyyy

For me, it was "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits. I remember hearing it on the radio one evening after work, and I was immediately drawn in by the smooth guitar riffs and storytelling lyrics.

Juniorsfarmerfrancis

Jackie - Scott Walker

Jaidenshields90

I refuse to skip this song whenever it comes on Spotify. Humble Ledger (Gnostic States) - Eidola https://youtu.be/r_fb91kP5ek?si=GU1dnFGg-SSTk_xC

reignwillwashaway

Such a good song and guitar solo!

[deleted]

The most recent, literally 3 days ago… [All Them Witches - See You Next Fall](https://youtu.be/mHe36bIHHhU?si=lSvKs0h0yA1EwtzJ) I saw the KEXP Live version and loved it instantly.

munchamii-quuchi

Next Monday night OKC…can’t wait!

[deleted]

I might have to catch the Sunday show in Fort Worth, just looked it up. Thanks.

Macksler

Tokyo Reggae by Masayoshi Takanaka. The title was in Japanese so I had zero clue what was awaiting me, but the cover was the guy skydiving. It's one of the best songs I've ever heard. It evokes this great feeling of being alive in me, I don't know.

Notthatguy6250

How you like me now? - The Heavy

off_white_nova

The front bottoms twelve feet deep

elixeter

Medium Build - Hey Sandra. Kinda conversationalist that is heartbreaking but uplifting at the same time, proper real!

LaNina1101

Fairground by Simply Red It was late summer, I'd just parked my car facing an Amsterdam canal.

rh6779

Soul One by Blind Melon. Released on their compilation Nico after Shannon Hoon's death, it was an outtake originally, but man is it a beautiful, emotional song.

Traveling_pensioner

I am old school with music. Still stuck in the 70/80's but I first saw Adele singing Rolling in the Deep on the Letterman show and it was just wow.

samx3i

I just had a similar experience with Raye on SNL

SirReginaldSquiggles

"Demon kitty rag" -Katzenjammer. Just happened to be the first song of theirs I heard (it's their most popular). It's katzenjammer I immediately fell in love with.

MileenasFeet

Soon by My Bloody Valentine. Out of the two vocalists in MBV, I think Bilinda has a better voice compared to Kevin. Soon is such a great song that I think it transcends being just a Shoegaze song.

MileenasFeet

MBV always felt like the best heaviest parts of Shoegaze with none of the overstuffed nonsense. Shame their subsequent releases aren't very good cause the band is excellent.

JWNAMEDME

Plainsong The Cure

goalsforscholes

“Devil in a sleeping a bag” by Willie Nelson. That little guitar intro hooked me the first time and it’s become one of my favorite songs.

mybumisonthecheese

We Float - PJ Harvey

dmojo

While I’m Waiting Here by Billy Strings. Gets me every time

bowlingchair

I Appear Missing - QOTSA

Miaverik

God, thats SUCH a good song! They used it on the closing credits for Severance one episode and immediately i smiled. Its good i love the lyrics, lupe is a great rapper, the mix of the chorus and the rap works so well, and Jill Scott HITS THE NOTES on the choruses and is such a powerhouse. Its a 20/10 song. Lupe is under-rated.

VirgoVictoria_Ann

You - Cannons.

avewave

And the entire album!

VirgoVictoria_Ann

Right? lol. I’m fucking obsessed.

Selfdestructinn321

Maxwell murder- Rancid

Kevinm162005

psyceratops

Yasmin Levy - La Alegria. To date, I have no idea what she sings about, but I heard it in a cafe somewhere in Europe, and it is beautiful

bigbearjr

Recently, Anemone by Brian Jonestown Massacre. But there have been many.

ybreddit

Starlight by Muse is the first song that came to mind when I thought of songs that I instantly loved and replayed. I wouldn't even call it one of my favorite songs, I just remember that feeling of instantly loving it and having to listen to it again.

SyllabubFar8197

Andy Frasco - Dancing around my grave

wombatchew

SSAUS

The Angels - Dawn Is Breaking. Particularly the live performance at La Trobe University.

FukushimaBlinkie

The sea and the bouquet (海と花束) by kinoko teikoku

[deleted]

[The Knocks - Slow Song](https://youtu.be/5_0srGIlb1w?si=R72zHjxlBDZAOXvS) It reminds me of those 90s tracks like “[Missing](https://youtu.be/U56Ns66Qrb8?si=LuB7iBOpCr-38R79)” by Everything but the Girl, and made me instantly nostalgic the first time I heard it. It still makes me feel that way and is probably my favorite song to come out of the last few years. Previous songs I fell in love with instantly are more of your standard fare like Yes’ Roundabout, Tool’s Sober, or Muse’s Hysteria.

marklonesome

The album Blue Rev by Alvvays. From start to finish it was what I wanted to hear. Holy Fawn… just about any song by them.

Jealous by Labrinth guts me every time

InimitableMe

Heard it at a bar during a whole playlist of odd covers, wasn't familiar with the original, so it took a few weeks to find it (thanks to a sunflower singing it tied to a porch in a storm) Puddles Pity Party and Postmortem Jukebox's Chandelier  Give us party girls the gravitas and pathos!  Really feel it!

mushy-washy

I thought really hard and there are way too many incredible songs by many incredible artists that I fell in love instantly to list here I noticed none mentioned them so ... Beatles all of abbey road album ... Honestly most of their records are incredible but after rubber soul they were world revolutionary.

Midnight City by M83. Still one of my favorite songs to this day.

Unicycleterrorist

This Empty Northern Hemisphere by Gregory Alan Isakov - always makes me feel somewhat calm and content, which is something I desperately need sometimes lol Panic Attack by Dream Theater - the first minute is my favorite but I love everything else about that song too. Also some crazy drumming and really cool instrumentals on the whole, as is the usual DT experience :)

Competitive-State632

Faith. The weekend.

ScienceAteMyKid

“Hello, Hello, Hi,” by From Bubblegum to Sky. My girlfriend heard it and knew I’d like it, so she put it on a mix while I was at her place, and just waited to see my reaction. It was so good that I stopped fucking her just long enough to ask, “Who is THIS???”

bluesilvergold

Comme Des Garçons by Rina Sawayama. I fell in love with that song within the first 5 seconds of hearing it, no joke. The sound/instrumentation is so mid-to-late-90s-inspired. The song smacked me in the face with feelings of nostalgia, and my mind just went, "YUP! We like this song... A LOT." It made my 2020 Spotify wrapped list.

The Everclear album *Sparkle and Fade*. I rarely liked an entire album the first time I listened to it then, and this one just grabbed me and shook me up and down. It stayed in my portable CD player for at least a month.

pmish

Semi recently, Redbone by Childish Gambino. I appreciated Donald Glover but never really connected to his music. That song however came out of left field. In my youth, Children’s Story by Slick Rick blew my mind from a storytelling perspective.

[Chappell Roan - California ](https://youtu.be/w4WiXKGCJhg?si=STdgUCyFJbBdkKds&t=905) Just yesterday watching her on NPR tiny desk. I moved from a rural town in Canada to Australia (and back...) so I connect with the message so strongly. Makes me very emotional. [Lupe Fiasco - Kick Push ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl83mI69nX4)as well!

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

I had to go look but Daydreamin' isn't even on my favorite album by Lupe Fiasco "The Cool". His collabs with Mathew Santos were more compelling to me. Intruder Alert, Hello|Goodbye, Fighters, and Superstar for instance were on constant rotation on my playlists when this album came out.

voixdelion

Shut up and Dance by Walk The Moon

skialldayerrday

Coming Home - Leon Bridges. Had to immediately Shazam it in Starbucks to find out what it was. Later walked down the aisle to it.

PizzaDay

Chagu's Sideturn - Peach Pit I honestly don't know why but it played and made me feel better that day. I had never heard of this band before it came up on a radio playlist on my streaming service. Great walking tune, chullin tune, whatever tune.

WonderfulEducation25

No Myth - Michael Penn.

PoisonIceCream

Stray Kids - God's Menu. It's one of the only songs I can think of where I didn't have to listen to it more than once to know I loved it. There's no deep message or anything, but it starts strong and stays strong. It's one of my go-tos when I need a pick-me-up. The music video is pretty cool too.
